Proton is no longer a trusted product. CEO Andy Yen has compromised the product. I was a subscriber for years, but I just canceled after learning about his treatment of employees and his encouraging insecure, unsafe practices relying on AI. This is neither a trusted nor an ethical product. If you care about privacy and security, look elsewhere.

I was going to become a paying user, but then I learned the company is shifting to AI generated code. Great.

for proton ceo you better shut the f up about the ai we want privacy and security not ai slop bs of code you force your employees to do

Company direction has significantly moved from privacy first to following all other AI obsessed companies. Reports of their workplace culture as actively burying complaints and feedback from employees and pressuring them to conform to the management's mandate or risk losing their jobs. I will not be renewing my subscription without substantial leadership changes and employee protections.

can't be trusted anymore.

Used to be my favorite email. In the process of going back to my old email because I couldn't login on my new phone and reset the password. Once I got in all my mail was encrypted. A headache I don't need, I have a life besides trying to figure out txt keys and deal with this... too much mental gymnastics for me, good thing I didn't have really important things. Can't recommend this anymore

slow and steady wins the race

Love my proton apps and want them to stay secure. Andy Yen makes me nervous and needs to go.

proton is going pro-slop

It's not free.

Current CEO needs to step down, app uninstalled until then.

Just heard its gone full throttle AI slop, shop will be looking for an alternative. Getting harder as more air head CEOs succumb to AI psychosis.

Was pretty decent product, unfortunately recent Proton ceo and cto opinions showed me that rhis is not a product for me.

Started crashing lately. I even uninstalled and reinstalled but still crashes.

AI slop while discarding security. The CEO comments opened my eyes. Seems this is not the solution I was looking for.

Proton as a security focused company is dead. I was considering paying for a subscription but the CEO's new directive for pushing untested AI code changed my mind. I hope they reverse course.

Too complicated for simple use and easy suspect-spam filtering. Deleted after 3 days and I am staying with EARTHLINK and paying more for a service that actually works for a person who doesn't have a degree in computer science.

I've been using Proton for a while now. the product is okay, but I will be switching due to the remarks the CEO makes towards employees and their public political remarks.

OK do I feel like a horses patoot. First I owe the developer an apology for my previous 1-star review which is now a 5-star review. I was using the app to try and make new aliases and after some tinkering realized it's the website where you make your aliases. I've heard great things about Proton Mail and figured i must be doing something wrong and I'm glad I figured it out. So my bad. If you're thinking about downloading an app like this and are stuck making a decision, just download Proton.

change your CEO and I will change my rating

Extremely disappointed to read that Proton senior management are pushing speedy unsafe coding practices, rather than reliably maintaining what has hitherto been a magnificent product. I pay your premium prices for security and reliability, not to fund Proton management's personal ambitions!

Disappointed with the company's direction I've been a Proton user and have generally appreciated the privacy focus, but I'm extremely disappointed with the direction the company has been taking lately. It feels like priorities are shifting away from what originally made Proton stand out, and I'm not comfortable with where things seem to be heading. For now, I'm holding off on canceling, but I'm watching closely to see what happens next.

Ceo is a rightwing supporter and is heavily pushing for slop in proton. Extremely disappointed in this direction.

it was great at first... a very secure app... it was so secure that it locked me out of it, and unfortunately I lost the security words I was supposed to save, which I did save, I just lost them.

cool

Andy must go!

5 stars. I locked myself out — forgot both passwords, lost my 2FA — and thought my data was gone forever. Other providers: bots and dead ends. Proton's support (thanks, Dimitar & Claire!) verified my ownership and enabled recovery, even as a free user. Privacy here isn't marketing; actions match words. Lesson: set your recovery phrase & recovery email BEFORE you need them. If this happened to you, you're not alone — I recovered everything. Recommending Proton & upgrading to paid. Thank you!

Great email

As a paying customer, I'm deeply disappointed to hear of Proton's CEO aggressively pushing AI coding internally, a development approach which I consider a threat to my security and privacy. I will be weighing up competitors and planning to move away in future.

A brilliant alternative to the strong clutches of google. Occasionally fails to mark an email as read. But otherwise 5 stars!

it seems I need to rethink my intention to move my life to proton. their stance on AI and how they are treating their employees is proof that this is not the safe haven it made itself out to be.

Thank you for coming into my life. I hope company lives as long as I'm breathing.

best e mail ever

the CEO apparently fell into AI psychosis and flipped on his employees unfortunately. Shame. If he doesn't get replaced and they don't reverse course quickly, I'll have to self-host, and hosting a secure email server is a lot of work.

great app, I can lock it, set alias, great alternative to Google

Excellent Email Server!

went all ai so I'm out

My loser thinking says vibe-coded slop is the antithesis of security. Thanks for the heads-up.

Proton's CEO needs to ask himself why consumers would pay professionals for a premium service if their expertise is thrown to the wayside in favor of vibe coded slop that consumers can easily generate themselves.

App is vibecoded without pen-testing. Deserves no support until they fire CEO Andy Yen for telling staff that testing AI code before deployment is "loser thinking". Don't be surprised if it's breached soon, and support the staff that are fearful for their jobs for not using AI enough there.

get rid of Andrew

inherently insecure because of the current leadership

Used to be privacy focused, no longer

disappointed and concerned. the company advertised itself as security and privacy-driven, initially had even a ban on AI. now reports are that its employees are being pushed to adopt ai under harsh environment that doesn't really care on the consequences. waiting for learning about its positioning.

Don't like the comments the CEO used to describe their workers.

Very disappointing to hear their stance on AI. Uninstalling.

I liked your brevity option.

if you are willing to wait 45 seconds for an email to load in the name of encryption and security may be worth considering.

Really good and save email provider

Unable to create account at first place. the number recovery says number validation failed. and when i skip it, i try to verify, it says something went wrong... what's this vro...? 🙂

ai slop company.

App is mostly ok but could use more features from the website, like Security Center and ability to create hide my email aliases. With my Samsung S21 There is a glaring bug where when you have the app auto lock, you get stuck in an endless loop if you dont want to unlock the app. The home button hides and the back button will not exit the app. (bug report sent thanks for the quick reply)

This service is no longer to be trusted. Proton is vibe coded garbage now. Do not trust this service for any security.

?ejsjs

the CEO of the company states that proper testing of security features on the software is and I quote "loser thinking" this app can not be considered secure anymore and using it is to invite a data breech of you personal data.

Awesome App!

I dont think the app should randomly log people out

Inherently unsecure products due to company leadership culture

can't do verification

I was in midst of swapping to Proton to get away from all Google services and get away from AI. Only to learn of the awful practices by Proton CEO and pivot towards AI software. No thanks, bye Proton

Everything within these Proton apps is protected, of good, they're constantly innovating, developing, starting to compete with companies like Google and Gemini and Grok. Super proud of Proton and their unique approach to innovations that are way ahead of this time, as long as they're used for good, and Proton always aims to protect

The 404 Media article on Oct 29 says it all. The CEO has abandoned reason for madness. I'm cancelling my subscription because if they are willing to toss security aside and then lie to their customers about it, then Proton is of no use to me

Heard so much about this great and wonderful Proton!! But what I never heard was that it's a subscription service!!!!!!!!!! I didn't even finish the sign up before they asked for $200!!!!!!!!!!! If I wanted to pay money in order to have an email I would stick with Gmail... WHO I'M CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET TF AWAY FROM!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe this.... Uninstalled before I could even finish signing up. Y'all are worse than Google. Absolutely disgusting.

A great app, but when I renewed my subscription before the renew date it started today so I lost the rest of my previous subscription. I thought it would add to my existing subscription! So removed another star. And still no way to set separate notifications for each account. I got an account I want all notifications for, and two I'd like to mute. But the app makes me choose between all notifications for all accounts or no notifications for any of the accounts.

my favourite one

good enough, but the support is highly wonderful and respectful. One can see there is love and dedication is spent in the program and server available for us...

stop asking to be reviewed

and I got hacked

It always block important mails. Bad Experience...

One of a kind 🛸

Please add an option to copy my email like the web browser version has.

I love it

Nahezu perfekt. Eigentlich wie Google Mail aber halt ohne KI. Geht nur entweder oder.

excellent client with piece of mind usage.

this has to be one of the best apps I have ever used, especially when it comes to security and privacy, and if you're worried about your other apps, well don't! because Proton has a whole suite of apps that integrate right along with whichever Proton product is your first, it will surely not be your last. Try it now! Get rid of Gmail or whatever Google product you think is keeping you tied to using their services. Proton will go above and beyond what you think you have currently.

overall a great email app. some annoying bugs are there. when involved in a long email chain, it's very hard to scroll through to check old replies in the chain. can't seem to add new email pops within the app.

If I reply, it will add "Re:" to the subject for every reply. So 5 replies will become "Re: Re: Re: Re: Re". I have contacted support, they say it is a recognized issue, but they do not solve it. Seem like a simple issue to solve...

Distubed by this app(proton mail) letting facebook try to track your device and if you don't have any protection in place facebook is collecting the data off of your device through this so called privacy focused company. Seems like proton sold out. The dollar wins again because who cares about people.

I'm reaching my storage quota.. don't use this for business.

Doesn't even have basic formatting like bold, italic and underlining on the mobile composer. It's only a plain text box and an attach button.

right off the bat, the phone number validation fails, for whatever reason

its actually doing well thank you.

can only give 3/5 as most basic features are subscription based. They offered more storage if I forward my gmail. I did. I didnt get the increase. Cant setup my gmail/protonmail with IMAP/SMTP, unless I pay so now I need to continue going back and forth to gmail to delete emails. still getting used to a password keeper. seems to work great (though its my first, so i cant compare). im trying to de-google. so far this is working. Just wish some minor features were included before I pay

It's been Good for me

ok so far. been using it for years. hoping it's more secure than free options. wife and I share an account so it's mainly household info. minimal foldering/rules. searching works well. like conversation threading better than free options

destop

BOIII THIS JS SO OPSEC LEVEL NO CODEROT

copy email-why is this so hard/complicated to do on the phone? I just want to hit the user icon click the email and bam copied update: for me to copy it I can't use the top right profile pic, just doesn't not copy nor can I composite and email bc it's a drop down, I have to go to settings, click my account, then from there I can copy it, mind blowing I can't just copy it from the profile pic on the top right.

have used protonmail for three different accounts now, and every time ends up the same. it works fine for a while, then one day my "credentials dont match". attempts to get a new password fail, leaving me unable to every get back in. wth? so i'd just consider pmail as a temporary email address only.

not bad

great app great service.

I'd pick this over Gmail any day

Best ever! I recommend it.

Everyone should have a Protonmail account. If you are reading this, this is your sign to sign up. They don't charge you a dime, your emails are encrypted and secure, they're Swiss so they get to provide quite a few security perks that other providers don't have access to. Check out their YouTube video wherein they explain it out; it's a lot for a review. But you should have a ProtonMail email account for the security and lack of advertising alone!

Best email app.

I love Proton apps! I would love it if you created a messaging app and a photos app. I want to switch everything over from Google to Proton.

Great clean program.

App is lagging a lot .. seems to be some deep problem with the tech .. keeps stopping midway .. typing in the app is extremely slow .. heavy app .. these problems have started surfacing lately .. looks like the tech is compromised somehow.

TRASH !!! Despite paying for PROTON UNLIMITED, still getting only 1GB capacity,.... nothing but NUMEROUS HEADACHES SINCE PAYING FOR PROTON UNLIMITED,...... REGRETS !!!

still learning it

I've been using the entire Proton suite for years & it's by far the best out there. Easy to use, totally anonymous (within reason provided you set it up & use it correctly). For a few $/mo. you simply cannot beat it.

awesome

Reliable, easy to use and secure

Simply the best

good

I've had it. Verification codes from 2 important accounts don't arrive, so I can't log in to Amazon, first one.

the best

A very good, clean, reliable email, though there's always room for improvement and betterment. I like it😊

ytf would you sign me out. it is so moronic, it's beyond a joke. don't use this dumpster fire. Oh wow you logged me out again, no wonder i wasn't receiving any of the urgent emails I missed. thanks diptards.

sent mail get vanished

super! privacy focus and usability.

Love the Security in this email and all software from Proton that I've used is great.

As a family, we have used proton for several years now and have had zero problems. everyone is very responsive and well, it is nice to feel like a customer instead of a product.

perfect email

New email notifications are not working. The app changed its options and started inserting 'sent with proton' after I explicitly disabled it some time ago.

Simply awful. beenbl trying to get help to sign in since downloading this morning. I downloaded the app. set the password and sav3d I the password manager. Despite one rather inane form letter . no response to my repeatedly contacting support. Which means no support at all.

If you charge for a paid subscription, you shouldn't automatically attach "Sent from Proton Mail for Android" signatures to emails. First, I’m paying for the service, and second, isn't Proton supposed to be all about privacy and confidentiality?

great

Good stuff! Decided to test-drive the email service on both work PC and mobile for some weeks and just like that, fewer creepy invasive ads and videos feeds related to my emails. Now that I think about it, if Proton and Session had a baby, it'd be higher usage from me. Heck, I wouldn't even mind a tiny tiny tiny slice of ads knowing they were not behind data heisting.

better than anything Google is doing with email. you get what you pay for.

Best in everything ive tried so far. It has Great speeds, and insane adblocker. Great to know that Proton also has no logs.

proton is awesome and works great

Great email service that's secure and continues to strive for perfection.

Best encryption email out there, love it!

The app crashes when opening/saving attachments. The issue has persisted for months.

nice

The amount of storage is pathetic. it only latest six months for me. With so little free storage, there is no incentive for me to continue with them.

your stupid puzzle doesnt work and doesnt allow to login, update: before make stupid questions, read first !

Proton Mail is an absolute masterpiece and easily the best email app, far outperforming Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo with its unmatched privacy and security focus. The end-to-end encryption and clean interface are truly top-notch. However, the only major negative side is that its monthly and yearly subscription plans are quite expensive for regular users. Please introduce more affordable pricing or budget-friendly tiers. Highly recommended for everyone valuing data privacy!

ok

It is very worst to use because it no support team doesn't respond on my problem & the mail is taking time to responding.I am a daily user of proton & it is too laggy & There have no special features to use them😭. So I am refuse to use it & please try to fix the problem. Everyone use it like a simple Mail.I am 😭 disappointed.

never got logged in The I am not a Robot didn't believe me

customer service is so slow when responding to a request. I've been locked out of Proton mail ever since I got a new phone (3 days). I completed 2 requests and still nothing. very disappointing.

I get notifications that I received mail. When I go to my inbox it is not there and never shows up. It has happened several times. Today was the first time (October 17, 2026) that a friend of mine either didn't receive my email or received an empty email.

Best of the best email provider, security on first place! Application also working perfectly! Best regards, S.B. Cybersecurity Professional

🤌

Having all of my emails in one place and secure is great. I'd love to see a widget though! For a paid service it REALLY needs to exist, kinda surprised it doesn't tbh. Will change my review when that happens.

EDIT (In response to the defensive, and false reply to my initial review): Inbox categories was enabled by default. I didn't receive any notifications for subscription based emails that the app automatically categorised without my input, causing me to miss renewal dates, causing me to spend £ I didn't intend to. I had already disabled the setting prior to my first review - smart arses. I stand by my original review, it was and is a stupid function to enforce upon users. CS clearly lacking also.

Great service, although Google is still trying to interfere. No emails from Google are readable on Proton in dark view. So I have to make adjustments every time I need to read them.

it's easy to navigate

Limited and pointless. can't send more than 40 emails a day and won't allow you to add non-Proton accounts. Who makes sandboxes email apps in 2026??

don't use this garbage company. they straight up delete your account & all your emails if you don't sign in for a couple months.

Can't even create an account ..wo t let me past captcha, says something went wrong..but no way to do anything about it.. tried multiple times

Love Proton and all the offerings in their suite. I feel safe and sound with them

five emails completely locked out of after two days with 0 subscriptey?

great job. I give three ✨ because you only allowed two account sign in instead of multiple. if multiple accounts finally permitted I will be back and add two more ✨

Life changing email app, being able to connect all my email accounts is a huge pro. Makes my life 10x easier

very convenient, and the software is up to date according to the latest technology

I switched to Proton and I am so happy 😁 knowing that all my emails and documents are private and secure 🔐. Highly recommend it!

best

Enjoyed, without all the spam and phishing.

Latest update introduced: 1. snooze calendar isn't eventually spaced, as Sunday is really squashed 2. clicking on notification isn't taking you to the email

My fav Mail app. If you are here then you know its the best mail for privacy Proton please make google wallet replacement pls

No entiendo que al tener una cuenta un día y al otro día parece que me la eliminaron con todos mis datos.

Best what human being could build.

App was better when you could change. origination sound.

Very safe, very trustable. Highly recommend.

A solid email service and a well organized app. Would recommend to anyone.

it seems the Proton environment gets better as new features come out. I'll be dropping Microsoft 365 as soon as I transfer all of my files over. Proton, thank you for being an ethical company and protecting people's desire for privacy.

The best security I trust this company and it's developers. 100% thank you Proton!

love it!

best email service available.

i downloaded this apo and dign withem trying to ve safe but till now im not safe all my communination with were not proper some . tgey need to take care of tgeir customers rather

If you actually wanna write emails with some heft I'd recommend you stay away from this privacy-nut riddled provider. The app will crash mid email and you'll lose the draft.

I love Proton overall, but I hate the "categories" feature they added and enabled by default. That shipped some important emails from my bank to some nonsensical category hidden away, while all the other bank emails got to the primary category. This sucks! Sorry for the rant, but now I have to go personally to the bank just because somebody did a poor job with the feature. Just leave the app be as it is, its okay!

The only thing it does well is privacy. Everything else is archaic and sloppy. I can't use this for a lot of basic things. Paywalls for basic features are now in place. Proton has started down the rabbit hole of enshitification due to capitalism which makes companies expand at all costs to functionality and common sense. Once you start down the rabbit hole the product will only be further compromised. It was a good ride but I guess we're done now. No need for an appeasement, so don't reply.

very good but very few options without subscription!

very good 😊

not great, and when i tried to delete my account it locked and said I have to pay before i can delete my account due to some invoice(fraudulent).

Too bad it cannot be customized. Add options to optimize for landscape tablet (variable size of font on main view, show folders on a reziszeable left bar resizeable font)

Been using Proton Mail for a few years on my PC. So glad they have an easy to use app on the go!

Great app for many years but a bad actor has me locked out and I am still waiting for more technical service contact. It is frustrating that I cannot reply above your line and that means I send a new email. Your first reply to me gave no Case Number... are we still connected to Proton Mail?

perfect. private and perfect

how do i see and create aliases ? the most obvious application of aliases is to paste them into web forms. why on earth have you not implemented an easy way to do that. so friggin obvious. you need a new ux lead. stop outsourcing ux to the cheapest possible third world country.

update is okay, doesn't say if save phone number for recovery will get a SMS to make sure number is correct. Can we please choose something else than the ugly green for the icon of the person we're emailing? What about the remove metadata of attachments, the in a mobile browser experience is actually better than the app for most things 🫣 except for offline

The BEST!

honestly the best mail client on Android

Fantastic features like spam filtering and not from the USA.

Secure. Private. Easy to use.

I tried creating my account and something goes wrong..so inconsistent ..god bless

super opsec mode 😎😎😎

I was thinking of moving over to Proton. before I did I wanted to give it a trial run for a few weeks. After turning off all notifications I'm still getting spammed by Proton themselves. I was going to open a paid account. But I'm continuously pestered by banner ads and emails to upgrade. I completely understand they need to market. But it's a real turn off the way they are pushing it. Crazy ease up on the upgrade pressure. Let people become comfortable first geez. Most likely not switching now.

Emails in which I'm CC'd frequently end up buried in seemingly unrelated email threads, or appear to be missing altogether. I receive no notifications and have to search through other conversations to find them. On one occasion, another recipient had to confirm that I was CC'd and forward the email to me. I find this extremely frustrating, as I may remain completely unaware of important correspondence sent to me.

The developer does not have enough time or resources to issue proper patch notes. This suggests a poorly developed program.

Lost the way to manipulate email addresses boringly

requires creating an account with Proton just to run the app

fantastic mail provider. secure and safe.

super private like Gmail

pretty 🥰 good

I had targetted advertising relating to stuff I had in unsent drafts in Gmail, then lost access to my Google account because their security screening shat the bed. Proton Mail is actually reliable.

very nice, this is beautiful, avoid being hacked or no AI

Exceptional !

Proton is stellar! Security is top notch. The most basic plan is feature rich, and the paid plans add layer upon layer of additional function and usability. I have used basic (free) for years. I recently upgraded to a paid membership. This has streamlined my life, and my affairs greatly. Its worth it y'all!

great, but expensive

Excellent! Best mail service I ever had. Highly recommended for us who want to opt out of big tech false security and zero privacy

Great!

there is no search function, how can you use this as a main email account?

The BEST!
