It does not have permission to be operated on my phone. I'm not deaf, I can see, and it's operating on my phone and make it difficult to use

I second "wish it was better." I'm struggling to find an app to replace the amazing app "Deaf Note" that seems to no longer be in the app store (and my exported APK just sits there unable to tap on anything). wish I could find a replacement anywhere as good as Deaf Note

It catches what's been said for the most part however some words my be changed & unable to determine who said what if two or more are talking.

I recorded and hour with an attorney, once you run out of minutes (paid subscription allows 60 at a time). Once I stopped the timer it didn't save ANYTHING! POS app.

Transcription accuracy is very poor, and it is very indecisive about punctuation, so the transcribed text 'jitters' a lot, making it very difficult to read what has just been said. I'm almost deaf, and use it for situations like a doctor's appointment. It is better than not using an aid, but only just.

Highly inaccurate please use Brock g r o k rock is more accurate considering that Google has been in the game forever. Use grok and instant 5 stars

playback speed too fast can't adjust the speed slow enough

Very cool but I desperately need access to the text file. It's clumsy trying to get it since I can't seem to see where or how it stores it locally and the only way for now seems to be a manual export. I want this to automatically backup onto my Google Drive.

Useless app. Automatically deletes the data without saving it to a doc file. In 2026, why would a user need to copy and paste the content into another doc, in order to save it?

No functionally to save and manage transcripts as a journal or otherwise. You can export the file, but can't save in the app.

Several of the functions work reliably well. However, the fact that the voice options do not have a description next to them, i.e. for the hearing impaired to make an informed choice on what they're selecting, is a fixable oversight. I'll change my rating upon confirmation that its been rectified.

It is really interesting and I am still learning about its capabilities; it is a base program that many apps use to coordinate speech and other audio notations, such as sign-to-word using a phone camera and microphone with the capability for an external audio mic, and it can notify your phone when it hears certain sounds, or even be used offline.

Had to force stop as it would start keying everythibg anyone saud or even the TV out of the blue. I never once was able get it to work to use for daily health notes wanted naje, loke a diary or journal. wanted to tell stories of my life to print,coukdnt figure out how use darn thing. I can't say I'm a fan. It's not terrible for small random notes. But you can't edit them or file them. However, it does have really good voice recognition. I was trying to use it to write a rough story idea as the ideas pop into my head, I don't recommend it for that.

The output requires so much editing. Punctuation is in weird places, sometimes it uses the wrong word (ex: know instead of no), it randomly capitalizes some words that can't even be mistaken for proper nouns, and that's if it's getting the words at all - sometimes it just stops transcribing, then resumes seconds later like nothing happened, leaving a hole of missing text and context.

doesn't automatically translate, you have to pick language if you speak to someone

i prefer the previous verison where i can delete the typed words fast... i dont like whenever i talk and it turns into a "bubble" within the conversation. i want it to go back and improve the range and have "voice dna" for each individual speaking!

This app has changed in recent months. it is now less accurate. Additonally, now it wont let me edit at all when it makes errors. Why can I no longer clock on the owed to delete and inlit the correct word that was incorrectly transcribed? Ot has not helped updating to latest version. This used to a good app but quality has dropped severely.

Words are usually accurate+gives a good display of describing sounds around me. However sometimes the app with input words at the end that we're not said or will cut off at the last few words of a sentence as it's trying to move to the next paragraph of displaying subtitles. All in all very helpful.

It was good until that last update. I used it every single day but now, uninstall.

The new interface option really limited the amount of typed responses in the little window. There should be an option to have just typed response as the entire screen instead of just a small window

I was hoping for something better, but it suffers from the same problems that all of Google's Speech to Text products do. Especially, after they combined most English dialects into a single algorithm. It fails to recognize nearly 1 in 3 words, and frequently freezes up, forcing the users to reboot the app. Inexcusable for a product designed by the richest corporation in the world.

Found this unwanted App on my phone. I was lucky enough to have option to uninstall it. So I did, hit uninstall. I just caught that it's still there. it has that usual BS saying "update". That new Google trick to make you 2nd guess yourself. Think oh I have this App. Sure I'll allow an update. Then you reinstall what you deleted earlier. You don't have it. It just gets to come back that way. I checked in disbelief. Tapped open & it opened up. After I uninstalled! It said it was uninstalled, NOPE

very accurate transcription involving 2 different languages in meeting

my hearing has deteriorated recently, and I need help to understand what people are saying. This app helps, but not much. The accuracy of it's translation poor; it mistranscribes far too many words, and accuracy depends on who's talking. It is also terribly indecisive about punctuation, so the words that it has just transcribed 'jitter' about all over the place, which makes reading the last few paragraphs really difficult. I'm sure there's a better app out there, I just haven't found it yet.

Terrible update, the layout was fine the way it was. I don't care for the new interface and the way the captions are presented. From my experience when you have anything the works for the Deaf community don't drastically change it.

An app that perhaps the average user won't need, but is certainly helpful to the hearing imaired and and similar. I saw a lot of negative reviews about people complaining it comes with their phones, but some people need to realize the world is bigger than just themselves. 4/5 stars simple because it is a great, beneficial tool for those that need it, but it does tend to get in the way during calls and may accidentally turn on, which can be confusing mid-call.

Mixed results for you. This app is very useful for the deaf to use but transcribing accents in English is not great. There are so many mistranscribed words actually spoken and often replaced by other words we never said in firstv place. This creates verbal conflicts...

This app along with two others just showed up after my "update" I don't want these, don't use these features. Stop messing with my phone Google and forcing apps on us that we can't uninstall you're just bloating my phone with unwanted apps and it does nothing to improve the performance of my phone. if I want an app I'll download it myself.

It's so inaccurate, it's not even funny. I have been listening to Harry Potter audiobook and it makes up such illogical words when transcribing, it's pathetic. Terrible useless app.

As a deaf, non-vocal person who relies on this app, I need reliability, the app apparently goes to sleep with the error message "Audio is being detected but transcription is unavailable at this time, try again later", that's no good to me!

It works about 75% on TV transcription, meaning that about 25% of a "conversation" is missed. Not wrong--missed. What it does get is very (not totally) accurate. It can tell the difference between applause and music. I expect that background noise is the main culprit. If your spouse is yapping about something (Honey, are you writing reviews or listening to me) it'll catch that. Quite accurately. I don't know how it'll work in a crowd. I avoid crowds.

Update seems to have made it worse. I've had this app for a while and used it for the first time recently for programmes that don't have subtitles. I found it 80% accurate on transcription so decided to update it as it had been months since I initially got it. Sadly the changes are awful. The text moves on my phone so fast reforming sentences I can't read it (I have it set to the smallest text size). It's even worse with the accuracy probably around 40-50% now and misses a lot of dialogue.

It would be nice if you could let us choose between a male or female voice to respond, for us that are deaf, cannot speak & don't know sign language. Other than that, the app is great & helps me communicate with my friends a lot better.

I am cautiously rating 5 stars as this application seems to work well at transcribing and also translating live audio including on-device with the notable exception of neither transcribing nor translating TTS Text-To-Speech while another application, such as Gemini (another multilingual polyglot beast) is reading auto-generated text output. This function is entirely separate from the Recorder App (which is trash).

I have not used this yet but will modify after use . The reason for this review is to ask why Google developer(s) fail to respond to ANYONE who gives a review. This is a big red flag to me that this is simply a data collection app. I am not a die hard cynic, but data collection is BIG business today, especially for use in AI applications. Large Language Model AI's eat exactly this data every meal, and it is extremely valuable to the AI developers. I will probably delete this app, power hungry

I'm using to translate classes on Domestika. Currently I'm taking a class with German language. The translation is good - there is a delay, but I expected that as it's catching voice as text then reading that text to me via ear phones. It's a lot of pausing and playing, but I'm sure I'll get used to that. The app seems to start talking when there's a pause in the speech it's capturing, so there is a rhythm.

I'm quite hard of hearing and this is great for me. a couple of problems. if there is a group, it's hard to know who is talking. some people just speak too softly!! when I show them it couldn't pick them up at all, they start to realize maybe they aren't speaking loudly enough for me. and lastly I'm in France. so there's lots of mixed English/French and a fair number of french words or sentences thrown in. I'm used to it so can usually tell, phonetically, what was said. thank you

Privacy is rare these days. Unfortunately, for apps that don't work on a device or are unstable or maybe you just don't like the app for whatever reason--you cannot uninstall or remove those apps. Not every app is useful, while some may find apps useful other people do not. Give people the ability and freedom to uninstall or remove apps they don't want, need, or like.

The voice to text on Android has only gone downhill in the last 3 to 4 years. It used to transcribe everything with good accuracy but now it decides regularly to add random punctuation where it doesn't belong and the punctuation makes no sense from a grammatical standpoint creating run-on sentences like it is its primary function. What have you done to your functionality?

Completely and utterly worthless for Cantonese. It can't even detect a single word of Cantonese spoken by native speakers with no background noise whatsoever, and unhelpfully tries to insist you're listening to Vietnamese or Mandarin (a language that's not even correctly named in the app). Try again when you've learned how to Asia, Google, because right now you're worse than useless.

🧡🧡🧡 ChatGPT tells me that the more you use it the more it will become familiar with your voice patterns. 1. Speak slowly and clearly. 2. Keep the microphone near to you. 3. Gibberish sentences will appear frequently. 4. just repeat the last few words that it got wrong. 5. Then, unfortunately, you will have to copy and paste it into a notepad and then correct all its errors. 6. or Ask ChatGPT to "Make sense of this message, reproduce it and add commas and full stops in the correct places" 🙂

This app just appeared a couple of weeks ago. How many translate, transcribe, and record and store apps can be installed into my S25 before it is useless. Totally interrupting my calls, texts and filling my screen up to where it does not function. And there is no way to control them. I have had cell phones for more than 30 years, computers, laptops and notebooks. This is ridiculous.

While this app will usually be more helpful than wild guessing, the machine does not understand any accent including "Radio Standard American English". It lacks vocabulary. Because a machine cannot understand context or connotation, it will default to wrong words more often than the actual spoken words. We have a long way to go before a transcription app can make half as much sense as real huumans writing closed captions.

It became very annoying having your icon waiting on my desktop and opening at the lightest touch. I find it interferes as it rides on top of the other aps and opens when working on another program. And then you have to stop what you are doing to close it down. It is a good voice recorder otherwise. I was disappointed I could not use the transcript and save it as a Word document. It would then serve me as a writer. I hoped it would be a transcriber, from speech to document.

anyone else having issues where the app works for a good while then suddenly it stops transcribing and says "try again later" ?? I am using it to transcribe live streams in other languages and it works just fine and is pretty accurate, but then suddenly it will stop working and won't work again until later on in the day. Anyone else having this issue? but I still love the app because when it is working it works perfectly. And it is like 90% accurate. I am able to transcribe their words.

By guess and by golly I finally got the icon to display on my phone. I did that by saving a bookmark for the app url on my homepage. Once I started the app from that, I was asked if I wanted the icon to display in my app shortcuts and I chose "yes". Aside from that, it's about 75% right on transcribing and that's enough to be really helpful to me. We use it to caption phone calls and on a tablet propped up in front of the TV to caption podcasts and shows.

I'm still trying to get s handle on this app. I have to say, the speed and spelling accuracy of this app blows me away. I can have the TV going in the room and be talking to two people and the app is recording , in real time, every word . Of the TV, of me , and whomever else is conversing. I'd like to have better / more options to control its settings. Right now, I've got s floating button on my screen. I do not want it there. II cannot figure out if it's a bug in the app, or feature.

Edit: This is one of the better apps for the deaf. It gets words wrong sometimes, but I need to use it daily. Due to Meniere's Syndrome, hearing aids don't work right & I don't know sign language. They fixed the secondary language to choose "None" so that English USA will be my only choice. (Thank you!). My microphone stopped working on my cell phone, and I thought it was the app, but it is my phone. I was still helped almost immediately by the team's customer service.

Good app. Sometimes is off on a few words. My main issue with this app and why I'm looking for another is that it only keeps the transaction for 3 days max. I can't copy the notes that fast. I have a life, can't spend 3 days just copying notes on 2 to 5 hours of dictation. Other than that I could have delt with the words it doesn't quite get right.

Not bad but needs some work. For example, it would be absolutely amazing if there where a setting to enable background transcribing. A good example, there are videos on some site I'm trying to watch. They are in a different language and I thought this app might work. However, like the others, if the app looses focus, it stops recording. And I cannot go the other way either because the website does the same.

Agree with others that the app has gone downhill recently. It was a lifesaver when everyone was wearing masks, but now it is worse at identifying voices, and much worse at transcribing groups meetings. And it keeps suggesting that I change to a different language when it can't understand something. It feels like they've reduced the computing resources, perhaps to save money???

I could swear this app used to work for phone calls too but it doesn't seem to detect phone call audio at all - I've spent a Lot of time trying to find what I thought would be a relatively basic app, but none of them transcribe incoming and outgoing calls (preferably free (with ads) or if it works good i would pay as long as the price wasn't super high. I tried contacting your company, but I just really hope to get help with this as soon as possible. Thank you for all this app offers. LB

Why the heck can't Google leave people alone? I don't want this stupid app. It automatically turned itself on during a phone call , then lowered the volume on every call and made it impossible for me to put a call on mic. It transcribes over the keyboard, so I can't make a selection if I'm on a call. Oh, yeah. And I can't uninstall it. PLEASE stop pushing apps I don't ask for onto my phone, Google.

Requires data connection to work, doesn't really need it. Will still transcribe when data is lost, but only briefly which means it's processing locally, so why stop when connection is lost. Other than making it very hard to use anywhere you don't have data, because people with hearing disabilities always have good data right ? Always ! Except when they don't which makes it dangerous since you can't even call someone for assistance. It also doesn't say that is why, it just stops working.

I so want to give this 5 stars. I'm extremely hard of hearing and so hoped that I could use this to help me understand conversation around a table in a noisy restaurant or at a talent show. It turns out it does a great job in situations where it's quiet and you can hear perfectly and it literally sits there doing nothing in a more noisy less perfect environment (which is when I need it). Or when I really need it I have a really weak cell signal and it doesn't work at all then either.

Has potential, but awkward. The app is handy as I've needed something to communicate with my dad who suddenly lost his hearing. The transcription accuracy is ok, but the thing that really makes this difficult to use is the lack of a simple pause button. Even in a meeting, you should be able pause the transcription when the food delivery shows up or some other prolonged distraction. Did find the hold option, but that just delays the display. Doesn't actually stop the transcribing.

My dad is very hard of hearing. In a quiet environment hearing aids work well enough but conversation around the dinner table or in a restaurant can get garbled, especially if there is a lot of background noise. When needed we'll run the app and put the phone where dad can see it so he can fill in words he wasn't able to hear. In a quiet environment the words transcribed are (guesstimating) 95% accurate. In a noisy restaurant, with several people at the table, background music and other noise, the transcriptions can be hit and miss but it's still better than hearing aids alone. Bottom line, the app is free and it works well in most cases.

This app gets about 80% of the conversation right -- less if the conversation is highly technical and the Google dictionary can't find the technical words. On the other hand, the app could serve as a good helper for any hearing impaired person who can almost, but not quite, follow the conversation. A feature/bug is that the app is either on or off -- there's no way to suspend it while there are outside interruptions you don't want to transcribe.

The voice detection is very accurate, and flows through well. However, I gave a low rating because the pause is useless. As soon as you unpause, everything you said while paused types out. Then, there is no way to edit out text. You can highlight text, and copy, but you cannot delete highlighted text. For me, those are big flaws.

I don't know if it's my phone, but the app will suddenly stop transcribing or have the digital version of a brain fart and get bits and pieces of the conversation out. Sometimes I'll have to close and open the app back up just to get it working again. Also doesn't always pick up the voice even if that person is speaking loudly enough. I rely on this app more and more now with my hearing having gotten worse and my ability to lipread stripped because everyone is wearing masks now.

I am late-deafened. This app helps me communicate with people, friends, doctors, etc., tremendously wherever I go. The dentist just told me he was amazed that the app can translate accurately and immediately what he said over double masks! Although the English version is great, the Chinese one still has a lot of room for improvement. It's more difficult since there are so many homonyms in Chinese. The app needs to pick up the right words depending on context. Thanks Google!! keep working!

I downloaded this to get ideas down while driving, and it worked pretty well until I was done. I wanted to stop recording and save the transcript, but I could not get off the screen of the transcription. There were no places to click to stop or save or even leave the app. After a few minutes of furiously swiping, my actual phone icon to go back appeared. So I went back, and of course, the transcript was not saved. It sucked.

Good quality transcription, but a complete lack of features to edit, export, or properly save make it little more than a novelty for transcription, and more an app for communicating with the hard of hearing. Such a shame as it would be great if only for the ability to easily get the text into another app (you can copy and paste, but if you stop speaking for more than a couple of minutes, it starts a new transcription and the old one is lost (even if you 'saved' it)).

Has no features to edit, punctuate, erase, share - nothing. Just records words. If you pause, the next word will go beneath the last, otherwise it will go next to the last word. That's the extent of what I could find you can control in the transcription itself. Also, there's no info. Maybe because there's nothing to teach. But no help page, FAQ, or demo. I think it's a good idea in theory but it's hardly usable for real life. It is pretty accurate for getting spoken words correct though.

The transcription is fast and mostly accurate in the languages I've tried so far (Engl & Japanese) but I can't figure out how to take it to the next level (how do I stop the recording, check the text (I think) I saved, etc.…). As other reviewers here have pointed out: the lack of instructions / menu options is a major & very frustrating shortcoming.

It's not a bad little app. I'd give it five stars if I could copy the whole transcription instead of doing it piece by piece. If you were to allow that, or if you would allow for a full transcription to go to like a .txt file, you'd have a hands-down winner. As it is now, it is a time consuming beast for longer transcriptions. With Otter dropping the proverbial ball, this would be a golden opportunity to overtake them by improving Live Transcribe. You've got a good thing here. Why not make it great?

Works fairly well! I'm impressed. I only have a few suggestions for the app which are: 1) The ability to more easily scroll back up to various time markers, maybe bookmarks/hyperlinks of sort? Currently, you have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see where you left off from reading. 2) If you can't do something like a hyperlink, allow the app to have the cursor where you last left off reading instead of pushing back all the way at the bottom of the text when you open the app again. 3) Can you allow a complete copy of the entire transcription instead of just individual selection timemarkers?

Great app. For anyone looking for an alternative - 'Otter' works really well too. Save, share, edit, name the speakers etc. I use it for meetings, dictation, that sort of thing. After reading the reviews, I can see just how beneficial this app has been for those that have difficulty communicating. It's not my personal use, but from that perspective alone, you have my 5 stars.

Goo app. Not great. I have to transcribe interviews in my job. It DOES make that easier. However, it needs a few things. 1). A start/stop feature. Very annoying that it starts as soon as you open the app and there is no way to stop apart from closing the app. 2). A pause would be very useful as well. 3). The ability to save each transcription individually to a file. Three day accessibility is ok. But could be better. It would also be useful to be able to name files. Keep at it.

As others have noted, great for "taking notes" of a conversation. Google should enable it to save to Google docs. I'm sure it will gain accuracy over time. It should also employ each users dictionary to provide better contextualization in word selection. Awesome app, though! Keep up the great work!

Wanting more. It picks up what you're saying really well, better than any other transcriber app I have used, including the Dragon Anywhere app. But it has no means with which to do anything with the words you have transcribed. You can copy and paste, and add to those words using the keyboard. But you can't change the text you've entered via your voice. You can't even delete or adjust a word that has been incorrectly transcribed. So it is very promising but needs a lot more before it's useful.

Easy to use interface. I find this very helpful for work meetings with group calls. I would like the option of being able to select parts of a conversation, for copying and pasting, instead of the entire conversation. I left off a star because there is room for minor improvements: voice to text recognition could be more accurate at times.

The transcription is very very accurate. However, exporting the text to save it somewhere is a hassle that isnt worth dealing with. Please add in the capability to 'select all' rather than 'select conversation' so that copying text is a simple process — as it should be. It's time consuming to copy and paste parts of the text one at a time, and worse, the app scales back to the ends of conversations if you leave to paste the text into a doc then reopen to grab more text. So you lose your place.
