It's not the app that's the problem, it's ally in general. They blocked my account for so called suspicious activity. my husband was linking his bank account to it so they blocked it then closed it claiming that I requested it to be closed. This bank sucks.

getting frustrated with the support chat because I get a notification 10 minutes after the support person already left the chat. and it takes an hour to get someone to see the message in the first place.

DO NOT USE. Ally is currently holding $210 of my money hostage. They don't tell you when you're depositing funds during the signup process that new account holders can't create virtual debit cards, so you have to wait 5-7 business days for a physical card to arrive. A customer service rep suggested I could use Zelle transfer to get money out, but you apparently can't use that for more than $25 at a time. I'm told resolving that could take another 5-7 business days. This is unacceptable.

Ally banking is fine, but their invest platform is embarrassingly nonfunctional. It refuses to load and is the incredibly unreliable to use.

I started using Ally bank for like 2 weeks now. The app does not allow me to log in, its like its stuck on froze. I would like to log in and see what I need to see on my account without delay or inconvience.

Easy to access

won't accept payment from my bank because they aren't "affiliated". offers no other way to pay and forces you to use a 3rd party and therefore pay even more.

a lot of times I get logged off for no reason in the middle of things, but overall it's an okay app

The app worked fine for a while until suddenly the buckets stopped working. This started months ago, and I have chatted with 3 different reps and told that it would be followed up on only to get absolute radio silence from Ally. Very disappointing.

Uninventive UI, Hard to find anything, seeing multiple people also have the problem of not being able to see if your payment has actually been processed. besides for unuseably unhelpful design, it just runs awfully and barely loads anything on a phone that very much should be able to run it

this app is terrible. i can't log in. my password and my fingerprint are set up and both ways just infinite loop "loading" then go back to the login screen. i need to make changes to my account and pay my bill, but i can't because i can't even access it!

the bank is good but the customer service can be better. You have to have an account for 30 days to get a digital card would not recommend this online bank to anyone.

This app is slower to load than Capital One and Square, so I deposit all of my checks into those other institutions just because depositing checks there is faster.

This update that was meant to make Zelle easier but it now made it glitchy. Cannot add my phone number as a contact to send Zelle (it is registered with another bank) because the app says it is part of my profile, but my Ally Zelle is registered with my email. So now I can't send Zelles between my other bank and Ally. Fix this please, first Bank that does this!

This app has many security vulnerabilities not to mention there's a lot of lagging and glitching going on in this banking app. You need a serious senior developer to look at this thing.

10/20/2026 Biometrics doesn't work. **12/22/2025** Now the new Review and Pay screen is not consistent across different payees. I'm getting 2 different layouts with 1 being a mess. **12/22/25** Terrible app. Many have posted about the problems but they continue. I don't need to call you to hear that you are working on it. An online bank should be on top of the issues.

currently CRASHING when looking at CD account info! PLEASE FIX ASAP. Stop creating features that most of us don't need. what we NEED is a way to order all accounts in the snapshot, NOT JUST CATEGORIES. At times can't edit nick names, that error has been around for a bit, usually around midnight. why are you wasting space with CD rates for different balances? it's all the SAME RATE! dump that text and just list the rates for "all balances". other than those issues, it's a decent app.

Too many trackers, permissions, promotions, "badges", and "training". Hides recurring transfers under "scheduled activity" instead of Transfers. No longer offers credit cards.

Very glad they finally include the running balance, but still several tech issues.

when I had my credit cards, I had no issues. now that they've transferred to another bank and I just have a savings account, this is the absolute worst app. I usually have to log in 2-3 times before it takes. whenever I attempt a transaction (wire transfer, zelle) it repeatedly gives me error messages or says it's currently unavailable. when does it actually work???? I'm not so sure a higher yield savings account is worth this much headache anytime you attempt to do anything except add money

When I initially downloaded the app I had a bug where the app would say loading but nothing would happen. Initially I deleted the app and re-downloaded it. Same issue. A few days later, I tried again and issue was resolved. This app is more useful than using the Ally website. There is a feature to message Ally in the app, at first it is with an AI chat bot. In my case, I was asking about a service outside the bot's service and I was directed to a live agent within 2 messages to the bot. 5stars

(edit) Found the issue - VPN services mess with the loggin handshake. Updating back to 4-stars Had a good experience for years but recently have noticed serious degradation in the app experience. Freezes every time I open it and is very slow. Not sure what changed but the initialization and navigation has been slow and buggy. For Wells Fargo or Chase, whatever, it'd be ok, for Ally, a digital only service - unacceptable. I'm considering looking for another banking service.

It literally never works. Forget the part where the interest is insane. 14.99% for someone with a credit score above 750. and I know for a fact someone else whos credit is 650 they got a 16.99%. Make it make sense. Besides that I cant get a payoff quote. I cant pay off my vehicle because the payoff amount isnt the same as the pay amount for today- it wants you to go through the payoff section- which does not work. None of the option menu works.

overall it's an ok app, I mostly use this as a high Yield savings account which at this point isn't the most competitive rate at all. probably the only reason i keep it is because i can break up the savings into buckets. My biggest complaints is that I can't add or rename buckets on the app, and small glitch where my keyboard will block the screen when I'm trying to enter amounts that still hasn't been fixed in probably a year.

For my purposes, Ally bank (and their online presence) works perfectly. Also, the call center (staffed with HUMANS!), always gets the problem solved. High marks, all around.

Good app, though UI could be better. I would like to have the option to hide accounts and balances, for added security. I love the savings buckets feature, though I wish there were a tool to analyze my transaction patterns. If it exists, I haven't seen it. I think making the UI more streamlined and accessible would make a world's difference. On another note, thank you for having a dark mode!!!!!!!!!! My eyes really appreciate the devs' thoughtfulness.

Zelle can't recognize my actual balance so I can't get my money out within an hour. Now I have to wait 3 business days to see a balance. Annoyed, but technology is regressing not progressing.

it was fine until last week. I've never had a problem using zelle through Ally bank now since last week it's been an issue. if I'm going to zelle more than $65 I have to split it and do multiple zelles. it's been over a week I'm closing this account and switching banks.

Update: I havent been able to see my buckets in over a month :/ taking off a star since this app has always been so buggy.. (the bank is great, the app is bad) Original: the bank is great. 💯 the concept of the buckets is great. but there are LOT of issues with the App. There are some buckets I am never able to look at the transactions for. I have to restart the app every time I'm using it for the many errors. I use the website too but I have to have both open to get my weekly stuff down 🤦

I've been waiting over a week for my paycheck to be applied to my account. I've called twice to see about expediting the transfer, and both times I've been routed to a call center where they barely speak English, as in they are reading a badly written script that was written by someone who doesn't understand grammatically correct English. My paycheck was deposited last Friday, and they are stating my funds will be available next Tuesday. 12 DAYS LATER!

Literally every time I open this app, it only shows me a black screen until I force-close the app and re-open it. Every time. EVERY time. EVEN after reinstalling it.

Worst banking app I've ever used. I physically cannot move my money out of my account, because any time I go to make a normal transfer or use zelle, I get error messages.

Love the bank, HATE the app. The amount of times the app has "encounter an error" is almost enough to make me stop banking with them. The buckets are amazing, when they work. half the time they won't load. If you leave the app open in the background or do more than 2 things with your money in one session, you'll have to log out and start over. They're one more error message away from losing my business all together

Also you cannot login on the website if the app is installed. edit: the app keeps getting worse! this is an online banking, so you would think they would get their act together when it comes to the app. I'm looking for a new bank. Basic info is hard to find on the app. They keep trying to sell you things. Why would I open more accounts when my experience with the first account is unpleasant?

USELESS APP kept rejecting any attempt I made to verify my identity, with no explanation,Must have Not ever heard of submit a selfie or snap a photo of state id yet .theyd rather just tell you your not verifiable and when u complain they just say they will escalate it to their verification team .hey big money genius. I can verify me i dont need your team to do so .update your verification process stop making people feel like u think certain people are unworthy its not us its YOU

if you have a bank account listed for payment for a car loan that isn't being used, you will be unable to make payments to that loan through the app. ----{{you have to delete old accounts and only have one that works}}----- second dev response, instead of looking into their app and fixing the flaw that I found they want " more information ". . all the info is in my review here. Fix your app so that it will choose a payment account from a list.

For 3 weeks now, this bank hasn't been able to receive Zelle transfers, won't let me send Zelle through the app (it only works via web browser), and whenever a transfer actually goes through, they take the money out of my account immediately but don't deliver it until the next business day. Whenever you call, they just blame Zelle and fix absolutely nothing. To top it off, my card was supposed to arrive on the 28th, and as of the 6th, there's still no sign of it.

Love the interest rates and the ease of transferring money. Account management is user friendly!

Easy to maneuver around the app. I'm saving or allocating funds using 'buckets'. I set small amounts to go here and there just once and allow it to grow. I'm always surprised by the amounts in each bucket. When I need a lil extra cash Ally's transfers are quick & easy too. I'd recommend this app.

I'd like to give it 0 stars because it couldn't verify my identity and my application was denied immediately I was trying to open my first account and filled out all the information and when I called they said they don't know why I was denied and to email from the email they sent to find out why I was denied it was all confusing and if you're opening your fist account don't use ally

08/31/2026: Spending buckets have not worked for over a week on mobile Android or iOS or web. Submitted tickets did nothing. 10/04/2026 UPDATE: Been over a month since spending buckets have worked in main account and no word from Ally. Created a new checking account and it seems to work. Ridiculous online only bank can't keep its app and main feature functional. Especially since it's the only way to interact with your account. Will close all accounts and move my money back to Schwab.

I can't Zelle funds, it says the amount I'm sending exceeds my balance, but the amount I request is equal to or less than what I request.

Latest update seems to have fixed issues I was having. I don't use the app very often. I do most of my banking from my computer. However, when I do use the app, I was often having issues with screens updating, and there was no refresh. I just used it today, and almost everything worked fine and updated. The one screen that didn't update right away allowed me to pull down and refresh. It's still a little clunky, but at least things are working. That's the most important thing anyway, to me.

App has many problems. Cannot manage Debit card, overdraft & cover protection, cannot download credit report pdf, as all gives error message that something went wrong. Sometimes parts of menus are missing & not displaying.

I have been a big Ally fan for decades and have tried to make good use of new features over the years. It's so easy to open a new account, transfer funds, and see the status of every transaction. Fees, minimums, etc are never an issue. I currently have Savings, Investment, and Money Market accounts all displaying on my dashboard providing easy access to all my assets. And the 24/7 customer service can't be beat.

I've used ally for I think 4 years now, and I've never had a single problem with them! No overdraft fees, no account fees, customer service has always been helpful. and the app is one of the best apps for a service that I've used with its ease of use in terms of finding what I need, explaining what different things are, and the features like spending buckets and using zelle natively. Even setting up a new joint account was easy, just log in to both ally accounts and they handle the rest!

The app and service from Ally is great. the only large problem I have is when you need to access your account at certain periods of time, you're unable to. That needs to be fixed. Everyone who has accounts should be able to access their accounts and manage funds 24/7, 365.

Forced updates. I prefer what work best for me. If it isn't broke, don't fix. Only clients with issues should update.

Good for the most part. Banking with Ally is great. Best bank I've done business with. But having to Update the app what seems like once or twice a month gets very annoying. Not even sure what updates are happening because it all seems to operate and look the same. Also, constantly giving me heart attacks with false "overdraft" alerts. I keep getting "overdraft happen: Deposit or Transfer money to keep using account" messages. I go in and check, and my account is fine.

Easy to navigate. I can always find the information I need including answers to questions without having call. Transfers are super easy! I have had this app for over 10 years!

app is buggy, and ally in general has gone downhill, their wait times on the phone are 30 minutes and their wait times on the chat feature are over 1 hour.

Easy to Deposit.

I can't deposited my check using my Pixel 11 Pro phone. bug reported for over a month. this is a remote virtual bank, testing and prioritizing fixes for remote deposited should be considered a CODE RED! some senior IT person should take care of the team responsible for remote deposits.

App crashes when attempting to deposit a check. There is no in-person banking, so I am in big trouble currently.

The buckets feature has been broken for weeks now! Did you lose your ENTIRE IT department? Ridiculous. The one reason we chose this bank is the buckets and they are completely unusable.

I don't know who they are paying to say the app is great, is sucks! You try and schedule a payment, it won't schedule for the day you select or the day you are wanting to pay, it will hold off until your due date. Sometimes they will charge you a late fee because you paid on the due date. Honestly I can't wait to get away from Ally, worst bank, worst app, worst rates don't do it!

Take The Card Off! I love this bank and the app always runs smoothly. My only issue is that since they switched the credit card to Ollo bank, my Ally card still shows in its own section, shows as late, wrong balance, etc. It's really annoying. There's a constant red box above it that says they're having a hard time updating the balance. Please find a way to remove it.

Fraudulent promotions. They get your money then don't give you the promoted offer, even when you asked if you did it right. They will ignore it until it's too late for you to fix, then claim you didn’t meet the requirements (that they never told you...). Just another backstabbing, greedy megacorp bank. And I reached out to support multiple times, including messages they’re STILL ignoring. So them asking me to reach out again here is just an empty gesture to save face here...

got it for the buckets. it doesnt work well. some days you see your money some days you cant for 2 weeks. customer service will spend 30 minutes on the phone with you to then just hang up, if they dont know whats going on. its all bad. my capital one acct similar to this one has worked without fail. so I'll be canceling this account and app.

The app crashes whenever I try to make a deposit, specifically when I tap the button for the camera to take a picture of my check. An update for a bug fix must be pushed out immediately as this is kind of a big thing. I'm on the Pixel 11 Pro XL. Looks like others here are being impacted as well over multiple days at least. Made my deposit with another bank I have an account with instead.

I dont really have any issues with the app, but I would love it if we could set notifications to tell us when a charge goes through and show us the amount and vendor name, rather than having to set it to only notify me of when a charge goes through over a certain amount.

App crashes when trying to take a picture for check deposit. once camera opens app crashes and restarts. Update: contacted support, Support stated to use the website to deposit checks, We went through troubleshooting and still no luck, I have tested other banking apps and camera and no crashing, Isolated to Ally app not a phone issue. Pixel 11 Pro, Android 17, All updated, installed and reinstalled Ally app, cleared cache, cleared storage. Worked fine on Pixel 7.

Ally invest does not transfer with Ally bank on IRAs. Don't be tricked into thinking it does. I've also been waiting weeks to get Ally invest to start a withdraw and a new 5 day clock starts with each interaction. Terrible costumer service on line. Calls are better.
