The app has bugs that continually slow me down so I find it frustrating so better to use a computer in my opinion.

Idk if they made recent updates but now I can no longer access any basic records like I used to without being FORCED to pay a ridiculous amount. I had to switch to family search because at least you can look at records for free. jerks ... My family tree means a lot to me and I can't do anything anymore. Used this for over 10 years and I now will leave due to bad quality. Also please don't add AI... it's ruining the experience and quality.

Well-Designed website and app, but everything in research and DNA are now behind very expensive paywalls. if I didn't already have an account, I would not bother downloading this app.

Ancestry is where my account is built the most but their are several and not all apples taste the same or have the same feel for the money, including ancestry but I find it's the most helpful and easiest to manage

very disappointed.. paid for the dna kit..shows zero information on Asian side family. Then they keep asking you to pay for more family tree information. The traits thing is a joke. 23anMe is far better more comprehensive. Regret buying the ancestry dna kit. very disappointing. Shows no connection from asian side.

I was able to view my matches public trees without any subscription, but now with this recent update I can't view anymore public trees.

Just upgraded. Constant error messages. Links don't open any more. Useless.

From the latest update, the app now times out very quickly asking you to start over after about 5 minutes. you used to be able to research and update your tree, be prepared to write everything down before it closes on you. Just Stupid. The "troubleshooting steps" mean, your out of luck and we ain't hepping you son! fixed their recently installed bug.

People in my tree will show that they have hints but then when I open the hints to look at them, I get a message that there are no hints and I am all caught up. Frustrating.

Ancestry dna had always been finicky..

Oct 2026. I really don't understand the incompetence of the programmers. before this update, the app wouldn't save a marriage or divorce record. now the app gives an error message on every entry... even after uninstalling and reinstalling

The app has a lot of bugs again at the moment. I'm unable to merge people and I'm constantly getting error messages. I also have trouble uploading images sometimes and I have to often close the app and start again.

the app has been great - until recently. Now I'm getting notification like traits, which I put a stop too ages ago, and other notifications, despite such being turned off in settings. I don't have time or patience for such annoyances. Have deleted app from mobile. bye.

Kenneth Williams I like the app I'm from America my ancestors are from America all the way back from the 1700s all in America not Africa I did my genealogy y'all need to fix that I love you out it's hard for me to afford it as in a senior on a fixed income.

I've always appreciated the constant refinement of my ancestry as sample sizes grow and algorithms improve. But this time I feel there was a step backwards. I understand why the Norwegian and Danish may have been removed, as these Viking settlers were assimilated as English by the target period Ancestry aims at - 300 years ago. But I'm annoyed that they've totally "disappeared" the German, Spanish and West African (tribal) ancestry I inherited from my parents families. Most disappointing.

Ancestry has me hooked. I feel honored to be able to find these connections with our ancestors, who have been the foundations of our families, and to discover some knowledge about them. Thank you.

I love ancestry. It helped me locate the area my ancestors came from in Ireland. Before I even did the DNA testing.

This used to be such an amazing app. You used to be able to access SO many records and hints with just a free account, it was amazing. But slowly over time, they started to limit how much you could get with the free subscription. And now, you can't access ANY records unless you pay the £36 subscription. Now all I can do is edit my tree based off of info I already have, but I can't actually find any new info. It's a shame, because it used to be so great. I'm afraid I'm switching to another app

Every other year there is an update that changes where your ancestors came from. On my first ancestry information, I had 10% Norwegian and 1% Iceland which I knew was most unlikely. After an update a couple of years later, this information disappeared completely. Where did it suddenly go to. This suggests it was made up to me. However, the update did provide a more likely set of statistics and I thought Ancestry had got it right. The next update was different yet again. Hmmm?

Ancestry updates are ridiculous. One time you are from this family tree, and the next update you are from somewhere else.

I've been a member for 10 years and Ancestry just keeps getting better...

Not working since "Bug Fix" of Oct2026. Haven't been able to open the app. Just sits on the initial Logo image. Previously worked great. I'd give it 4stars, but right now it would have 0stars

since they've made changes ($$$$) it's a pain. They utilize all of the information and now expect payment. I was originally signed, paid for 2 dna tests and was the original creator of the tree and can't download the GEDCOM. Further, finding the support page is like finding gold. Next to impossible. They've become like the government.

I had been loving this app, for the most part. whatever "bug fixes" you just did on the October 9th update has broken the app. NOTHING I loading. What looks like it's loading ends up at shadowed boxes of nothing. the DNA section won't open. my photos won't load. it's basically useless at this point!

It's honestly a very cool app.. If you pay for it... Literally amazing the things you can learn from some saliva on a Q-tip you mail to area 52 or wherever it goes. But most of the cool things you can do with full access get stripped away when you don't continue to pay monthly. Like, it helped me build my family tree back several hundred years then when they trial ended it only shows back to like 1800s. And it loves to suggest cool new things it does, IF you pay... 🧐💸💩 annoyingly frustrating

Extremely interesting. There is a ton of good information. It just takes time to digest it all.

This service is only good for casual users who just want a pretty pie chart on a screen. If you care about real data, paternal ancestry, or doing your own research, don't waste your money. Use 23andMe or FamilyTreeDNA instead. I waited nearly two months to get my results. The kit processing moved fast at first, but once it hit the final stage, it stalled for weeks; clearly an artificial delay designed to push their paid membership upsells.

I want to screenshot my Ancestry DNA but whenever I do they direct me to a terrible representation of my DNA results and won't allow me to screenshot. Absolutely terrible.

Profile details for ancestors are missing, making g it useless.

thrash, changed my DND all of the sudden, how does that happen? they had a clear breakdown of what my ancestry was, and all of the sudden the changed it and removed my connections to North America Indigenous and ancestry that dates back to more than 1,000 years and now all of the sudden I'm not connect it to them, Why? if it was there at the beginning, how do you not connect me to them anymore, this is a scam and lies.

changing my ancestry DNA doesn't make sense to me at all

they keep taking services away from the DNA program, and then charging for them.

My family is scattered, and has so many secrets, Ancestry has shown me some extraordinary information I would never have discovered on my own.

I manage multiple DNA profiles and the app doesn't allow me to switch between them when clicking into the DNA section. im stuck on the one DNA profile the whole time. ancestry have responded to say there's a drop down arrow to switch profiles, there is no drop down arrow on the app. I have the DNA tab open right now in the app and there is no arrow anywhere on my mobile screen to switch to another profile. the dropdown arrow, is on the ancestry.co.uk website, it is not on the app.

Ancestry has joined the Democrats and the push for a One World Order. This current update is an obvious and incredibly stupid attempt to rob Europeans of their cohesive national identity and origins. STOP FUNDING THESE PEOPLE. Examples: Someone from Devonshire England is ENGLISH. Someone from Yorkshire is ENGLISH. QUEBEC is NOT a European country. If someone is NOT Native American Indian then their ancient origins do not ORIGINATE in QUEBEC, AUSTRALIA OR THE USA.

Well, i went from 52% celtic/ Gaelic (which i am) to 21%. Just say you don't know what you're doing. stop changing my regions everytime I open it.

Great handy addition for genealogy on the go.

MY DNA was just updated October of f2026 and they claim that your DNA doesn't change but most of what was on origenal DNA was erased .kept so to me they lied because it did change and I am not happy. so who I was on the first results is who I'm not on this one they scrude up my whole family line from their messed up panels .. And they hide your match results so you can't see it .. They know exactly what they are doing .. So if you had Native in there it's gone if you had Irish etc.

Was working fine for a few weeks, now a screen pops up to accept cookies. Confirm and the screen keeps returning, can't use the app. Uninstalled and reinstalled, same issue.

app used to show results of DNA. now it simply shows whatever trees you may be connected with and has a broken back button, no option whatsoever to view your DNA data you paid for (to be fair that is still available on the website, but the app is worthless if you're not doing tree stuff).

Haven't been on long but its already a PAIN to use. while on the tree page, it will not let me scroll around. The whole reason I got this app was bcuz the web interface was bad on mobile but this managed to be worse.

My complaints are not with the app, but with the company/subscription. First, very expensive. Second, got a monthly increase with no notice. Third, beyond public data available, the additional services such as newspapers access cost even more. Fourth, cancellation fee?? That's a penalty fee, last gasp to get my money. Lastly, saving the family tree doesn't include any of the images, obits, documents that you've saved to the tree. OMG...

quick reference. not easy to maneuver on phone, but good for quick reference.

I'm giving it two stars because the parts where it shows your traits you can not correct them. I have a bunch of traits that it says I'm supposed to be having, and I don't have any. I'm also giving it a two because for every little thing you want to find out, you have to pay this obnoxious amount of money. even though everything is online so I've been looking up stuff myself, which is a lot cheaper because there are free sites out there that you can find the same information

great tool to find family history

that's great for finding relatives, but the update the regions your DNA comes from so often that over the span of a year, your DNA test can read completely differently.

I can't even update my family members that they find and match. it freezes on the "save info" screen and makes me shut the whole app down. Would be useful if they put the time and energy into making sure it actually works properly. for now probably will delete and try another.

you have to know where you came from in order to know where you're going

very hard to use on cell phone, can't find all my DNA accounts. what have you done? whatever it is undo it, please. at over $200 it should be matchmaker to use

It would get a higher rating if so many features weren't locked behind pay walls. Edited to comment: You left out the main thing for me. I bought the DNA swab kit, paid for it once, but am still required to pay again for DNA features on the app. So many things that used to be free are now bundled into subscriptions.

It's great, except for the price and increased limitations.

Cant delete private messages. Wont sign up again until this is a Feature. I dont care if it dosnt delete on their side, I want gone not Archived on my side. This is a majoy privacy concern. They save all your data, and you cant remove or delete stuff.

it's fun cover your grandparents your grandparents grandparents there could be a future to add saves like for an example: you make a family tree you need to save that you can make a new one overall it's still fun

absolutely awful and disgusting not only do i cancel during the free trial because you didnt have what I was looking for. you dont cancel my stuff then charge me for another month I didnt want then charge me a cancelation fee on top. like absolutely the worst company and app I've come across in a long time. I will not change my review unless I get fully reimbursed.

Every update limits the apps capabilities more and more in a misguided attempt to force people to buy the subscription. Edit: Cool story. The fact remains that there was WAY more functionality when I first got this app years ago and EACH update REMOVES features that used to be free. I want to WARN anyone that the frer app WILL get worse over time.

It's pretty neat so far. I just wish someone would figure out that all these "famous ancestors," who are my half cousins however many times removed, are not my actual ancestors. They are distant relations, yes, but they have absolutely nothing to do with my actual ancestry. A cousin is not an ancestor. That's exactly the same as saying my cousin (my mom's sister's daughter) is my ancestor, and she most definitely is not. Ancestor = forebear. Cousins do not fit into that category.
