This app is the best way to play 40k. The rules and codex contents are really well presented. however, - It needs a change log for rules updates - The command bunker needs to say how many of each weapon a unit had (and which models have died) - a digital codex purchase would be great, it's a nause to have to buy a book just for a digital code

A slow, unresponsive app with a poor layout and poor usability. That's the baseline. Then we enter the realm of paywalled rules, paywalled list slots (only 1 list without subscription). And THEN they decide the app is the only place where the full game rules are printed. And THEN they decide core rule updates in the app are not mentioned neither on their page nor in the app itself (no changelogs). A hilarious self-own, hope somebody with a better grasp on reality takes over soon. Avoid.

I cannot log into the app. I CAN log into the website. The rules are only in the app, not on the website. This is a problem. I contacted support. They tried to help me, but I guess they eventually gave up. I've seen it work on other people's phones, and it has a lot of really cool features for during a game, but I won't be able to even see my codex when it comes out.

the paywalling is idiotic. GW doesn't seem to realize that an army list is a shopping list. they should let me make as many lists as I want, because then I'm more likely to buy the models on my list. Also paywalling the datasheets is stupid too. How am I supposed to be expected to know which models are worth buying if I don't know their currently updated stats? and attaching the paywall to the purchase of a physical book is like triple-stupid. GW execs, please Google the phrase "loss leader"

Honestly mediocre. The app doesn't function as a list builder as you are limited to one list unless you subscribe, which wouldn't be bad if you could see all the rules. It doesn't, and even if you spend $40+ on the codex who's rules change the same day, you cannot make lists with that codex if you don't pay an increased cost on top of it. The app also doesn't alert you to changes in rules that massively change how the game is played, so enjoy the 1 star you money grubbing corpos.

Some details for combat patrols are missing rules and the scoring function doesn't work properly in some games with desync from opponent issues. Terrible for a game where this app is essential to play.

Not good. Having just forked out another £25 purely for a code to unlock content in this app, I get to list building and there are units just missing from the list builder. Where are my Company Hero's?

App is very buggy. Frequently crashes in the war journal. Rules often incorrect. Rules updates are being snuck into the app with no notification or change log, so you have no idea rules have changed unless you find out from elsewhere. Desperately need a change log & for the bugs to be ironed out. Paying a lot for this & it is simply not good enough.

Why no desktop support?

When 11th edition started this was a decent app for playing with the new rules, but now the rules changes TOO OFTEN(with zero notices or even a basic "What's Changed" splash page on opening the app)! It's not a problem to have codex updates or balance patches, except when they get added to the app WRONG! So then there are hidden updates that fix HALF the errors! AND THEN fixes to fix the NEW ERRORS added in the last fix! 10th didn't have this problem with the app and its books were useless!

Way too many pay walls for an inferior list builder. Want to make more than one list? you need a warhammer+ subscription for that. Want to build a list for a different army? you'll need to buy a codex for the code for that. Not only is this app insanely greedy, it's also the worst army building app on the play store.

first was writing a list of issues. then I realised list is to big and it would be easier and more honest to say that this app I just trash and there is more that doesn't work rather than does. and the fact that you are forced to buy it now is just insane . Smart way is to make the app that people want to use and switch to it because it offers more than other options, when you roll out something that does not work and cut off other sources this is just outrageous

The App needs to be better managed. Stealth updates for core rules and faction rules (which are locked behinda pay wall for codexs) are not shown when the app updates. Core rule, erratas, amd FAQ updates are free and there is not a datalog to record these changes or news that they have been changed.

Update: GW is bent on making an app subscription necessary to play this game and increased the subscription cost as well. You are still required to pay for the physical copy to use the army rules in the application. If this is the case I suggest you increase the value of the application significantly. Providing better rules to support factions without a codex is NECESSARY. More list export formats, Support for Dominatus and future decks are clearly needed. Look at your competitors

Good overall but lacking some basic features for convenience. i.e. you and your opponent connect but then you both have to seperatly keep track of each other's scores and your own as well as what cards they draw and your own rather than it just being both of you keep track of your own and it shares the data from round to round . also it could be made better by separating when the objectives are scored by when they are scored in phase. rather than just the name . otherwise its good enough 😌

Gradually this app is becoming fairly decent. Outside of the various gripes about needing to spend money to access rules, my only real comparing is requiring Chrome to be your default browser (in Android) to be able to access the BCP portion of the app.

Works pretty well, best way to get up to date info and keep scoring.

it's a good and helpful app but it's starting to take alot of space it would be nice if they did like with killteam and let you download each army separately to save space

It's fine but still has bugs. Keeps crashing when I look up rules. It actually notifies me it has bugs when it crashes and said to check updates, (which there aren't any). Also, they keep trying to do quiet updates but keep making errors such as the Tankbustas extra rokkit.

Would be great if they'd actually detail what they updated in the app. They periodically stealth update loads of data and don't say anything or include it in the change log. with GW moving away from physical manuals this app needs a lot of work. Billion dollar company that still runs and operates like a startup. 3 stars because for list building and datasheet referencing its amazing and simple to use.

Currently several bugs, incorrect stats etc. useful for list building and tracking your victory points during game, not very useful as a reference.

only source for a lot of core rules updates, then contradicts itself all over the place and crashes when you search. it's not a good look for a company worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Surprising a company this big struggles this much to make a good app. Issues include losing war journal history when deleting a current army, doesn't tell you how many of a weapon you have in the mode used to actually play, a steady stream of content bugs, zero support even though you pay for each army and subscription access.

This app peaked about 6 months ago, and I would have only given 3 stars then. It has now declined pretty hard. The game tracker and list builder features are inferior to 3rd party apps. Charging for $10/month for full app functions is crazy on top of charging $50 for an additional book and unlock code to access the rules you need to play your faction of choice. Cash grab highway.

Barely works. Lots of bugs that are slow to get fixed.

The app is incredibly unstable. Half the time I try to search up rulings the app crashes and typically does at least once per game. The layout of the rules and over reliance on FAQs as a way to modify rules make the whole experience really low quality.

Works alright. The War Journal mode needs an auto update feature. let each player track their own VP and update it on the other player's app. Don't make each of us input info for the other person manually. Why even bother with both people having the app at that point? Just have one person keep track.

App is great. Ignore all the poopy diapers in these reveiws. Warhammer players like to complain and argue, these reveiws match that. A 2.6 rating, when adjusted for poopy pants deflation, is closer to a 4.3

If it was Games Workshop's intent to make 40k an incredibly difficult hobby to get into, then I would say that they have succeeded. The actual list building works fine when there aren't bugs, but puting every single army rule and datasheet behind a 40 dollar paywall PER ARMY, is beyond insane. I get that you gotta make money but GW's profit margins are already stupid high for the models, and putting public info behind an absurd paywall is absolute biblical levels of greed.

bad timing buying 10th codex a few months before the new edition. now the Info is locked without another high price book being bought. total bummer.

Data sheets are great, army builder is also great, overall great app for the hobby! bringing down to a 4/5, until GW adds a dark mode.

yes the Warhammer+ subscription is needed but totally worth it, it just the best Warhammer app in the market. tracking your game and having access to your opponent list is also a very nice feature.

Like many apps this too has it's pros and cons. Most notable negatives for me are the various sustainability issues, like app not starting or crushing sometimes. Whenever a new major update is implemented it hardly ever does without major problems, i e buttons missing. It would be nice, for those with a propensity for competitive gaming to have a personal score based on win rates etc. Or calendar dates added for battles fought. Definitely more attention is required for this app.

The app is riddled with issues, crashes, and the information required to play the tabletop game itself is locked behind a paywall. The $40 army books no longer have the information required to play the game either. Save your time, money, and disk space and install one of the free alternatives.

UI looks good but the app can be pretty buggy, specifically with the journal when you delete a list that you used for a previous game in your war journey it deleted it for that log as well so it appears as (Blank Image) army vs opponents army. you also only get one list in the free version so you kind of have to delete it every time you make a new list, meaning the journal shows none of the armies in the games you played.

One of the greediest and community Unfriendly apps I have ever encountered. And it's not even as complete and comprehensive as some of the free apps out there. Shameful really...

A holes. how are you going to lock the space marines datasheets a week before you release the codex. I paid for the last one ill buy the new one did you really need to update the app if you were going to remove all the damn rules anyway.

I would give this app 0 stars if I could, its a buggy mess every time it's updated, the rules reference isnt accurate to the published rules on the website, the faq section is lacking, and to top it all off to properly unlock army rules you HAVE to buy the physical codexes which come with codes to unlock the rules in the app. I think Games Workshop should go back to the old days of 4th/5th edition and stick to just publishing FAQs with all the relevant changes and have people buy the books!

Spends more time taking down other good list building apps than making their own better

games workshop ia such a scam. spent week painting an army only for most of it to go to legends. never evem got to play after trying to return to the hibby after decade. I will never spend another cent on any of Games Workshop products. Co.pelty unforgivable and have zero trust or interst investing anymore into any games workshop product.

preparing databanks and its just stuck doing that. have to uninstall and reinstall just to use the app to access my codex updates is getting old

They were quick to address my concerns in the app the only concern I have now is that the app doesn't really explain embarking rules as clearly as disembarking. and why are the Grey Knights Terminator Justicars showing a "wrong weapons" error. 😂 y'all just gonna mess up Imperial Agents every update huh

had the black templar codex and warhammer plus subscription and they just removed most of the datasheets for units i had access to with my codex. (sternguard, land raider crusader, assault terminators, etc.) Games Workshop sucks now. Buy a 3d printer and use the New Recruit app.

It's alright for points values and rules. But I've unlocked the datasheets with the Space Marine codex code, but my unlocked content has been re-locked for some reason. And the "Report Problem" button crashes the app.

Generally the most cohesive way to view the game rules, army rules, and unit profiles. The needed Codex for each army is hardly an issue, as you'll most likely own one for your army anyway. It's the app I use and highly suggest to friends in the hobby.

I hate leaving bad reviews but this one is literally the worst customer facing experience imaginable.

best app you can use

Didn't like. Function v limited without additional monthly sub, content very limited without multiple (25+ available) £25+ purchases. You may only build 1 list without the sub. Faction information is not available once the faction book is released without unlock code you get with physical book purchase. Aside from these limitations it's often not easy to find what you're looking for, leading to circular navigation and limited UI. This is very "pushed" now, but I find other options much easier.

don't trust the rules when they come out. massive amount of errors, and super frustrating to find rules to check their poor auto check. Also needing a subscription to save multiple lists is B.S. robbery.

App works well, but I need to pay for a subscription to then also have to buy a physical book (codex) just so I can get access to the army rules on the app. Update: have to buy the new codex each edition still, with still no way of buying the rules online or in app i can't recommend something that is run like a scam. Still need to pay for a subscription to use it as well dont waste your money on this glorified points calculator.

imagine you pay 2000 euro to buy models and then they ask for 40 euro to get the rules

paying to use an app that requires you to also buy the Codex books as well as any supplemental books in order to unlock the material the app holds is a bit much. There are better options for use, that are also free.

Fantastic list building and constantly updated. Only held back by its own greed as you need to spend money on not just having a codex for each army you play, but also Warhammer plus to make more than one list.

Everything is locked behind a paywall. Even simple information that is already available on their website for free.

I use it because I have to. Not because I want to. It could use a lot of QoL improvements that they've started but are far behind. At this point, with the amount of money we put into this hobby, we should not have to find other apps to keep track of things when everything can be hosted in the app. Being prompted by the pay wall every time I log in when I already paid for my codex is extremely annoying too. Just do better.

I've paid for the app 2+ years. The app as an army builder is mediocre at best. There are (were) many better options out there. The layout requires too much opening and closing tabs of stats rather than have it all in one nice block. The subscription service gives you very little in return for the cost, access to your armies rules that you have to pay a hefty price for separately, a couple short videos a year, and a model or two. The price is that of a "premium" service, for a mediocre product.

Paid subscriptions are supposed to unlock all content in an app. Here however you pay hundreds if not thousands to get a tournament legal army, $60 for the app's subscription, and even then you must pay $60 x the # of codexes just to be able to view the data sheets for each unit in each army. Charging people to see free content in your app is... beyond greedy.

They literally write the rules but do not include the rules for factions and units in the app. The rules that are in the app are very poorly organized and there are no indications if there are any changes. Rules are free so if you charge money for them then they do not exist.

Mainly because it's sucks, but also because GW cease and desisted the app they WISHED they had. "Free" makes GW cowl like a vampire to sunlight, and it only makes GW's problem worse. I've deleted this app in response to the news that they made War Organ shut down their infinitely better app and I recommend everyone to do the same. (or review bomb it whichever attacks their coveted "i M a G e" more idc)

Over priced, I've been using it since 10th and still thought for that price it should unlock all codex's but now just about $80 is ridiculous. I will not be renewing my subscription

I love the app. I love the layout. I think making the list-builder a pay-to-use feature is acceptable, especially since free users can still build one list at a time. Great job! New version has a battle tracker, which is excellent!

Not only do you have to buy the codex, but you have to pay a subscription to use it to make an army list. If that's not enough, the subscription price continues to go up. I can't see any details on Ork lists I made under 10th edition now that the new Ork codex is on PRE-ORDER. Greedy.

Edit: It's gotten better but I'd like to see the unit stats stacked/grouped when attached in battle (for easier viewing) and the ability to remove units (and attached) when they're removed from battle. Original post: Better than last edition so it has gotten better but it still needs some work. hopefully I'll be able to give it 5 Stars in the near future

This app was indispensable at the beginning of 10th edition, as the edition has gone on, the app's usefulness has degraded significantly. With every Codex that gets released the rules for those armies become locked behind a Codex paywall. The Balance Dataslate rules changes aren't even added to to app, other apps are required to actually track victory points and mission information during play, and subscribing to Warhammer+ to add functionality to this app isn't worth the additional cost, Shame.

After the most recent update, the app crashes CONSTANTLY. Get maybe 5 minutes to look at unit stats before it crashes. Get alerts from my phone now that the app is slowing it down and should be put in deep sleep so it doesn't affect performance. CAN'T USE THE WAR JOURNAL AT ALL. Try to open it, immediately crashes. Can't use the app to play the game anymore, so I guess I just can't play anymore at all. Without it, we can't go to tournaments or properly play. Reinstalled, and it fixed nothing.

Terrible to use, complicated to unlock everything. Getting any content is stupidly expensive. Just make the digital rules free and available... I don't want to buy the codex for someone else's army to see what their units can do... I already spend enough on your stupid plastic

War Organ died so this clunky, poorly designed, purchase-locked app wouldn't have to compete with free community made alternatives that do it better. It'd just be sad if it didn't also make it harder and more expensive to engage with a hobby that already costs a small fortune to physically play.

Small bug with combat patrol rules and war journal. The excluded core stratagems are included in the command bunker and the emperor's children patrol mission scores 20 points but is capped at 15 anyways

has good but very limited datasheets. you can only make 1 army using the free version and about half of the total amount of minis datasheets are locked and require you to have a physical copy to be able to unlock the digital version. so just a big pay wall to block what I need. could have been better as GW could've asked for a one time purchase for the datasheets or a subscription but needing a physical copy is a waste cause why use the app when you have the paper in your hands?

It's a useful way of creating an army but it has a ridiculous sub fee. For a monthly fee you can create more than one army listing and that is it. You do not get access to the other codex's or anything else.

TERRIBLE app. First off, it's not always reliable as a source for your rules, it's a failure at the most basic level. There is no change log, so when balance changes are made, you are left to check countless other sources and hope the community has found them. My legends units are missing entirely. I could go on and on. Every single free, community made app and rules option is better. Go try New Recruit, somehow they are more on top of rules accuracy and updates than GW itself. This is a joke

Literally the worst list builder. Every other free app is far more intuitive and faster for list building. Requiring a subscription to make more than 1 army list is abhorrently anti-consumer, but what else do we expect from GW these days?

The app does make games simpler and efficient but it has too many pay walls that are overpriced for what you get. As well why wouldn't I be able to buy a virtual version of the codex or just buy a code to unlock the army. Also buying a codex for them to relock you out of your army because a newer version came out is absolutely insane. It's like saying I poorly balanced an army now pay me for it.

Crashes frequently doing common operations like adding or removing units. Additionally, the app is designed to annoy you into paying for a subscription by only allowing a single army list to be saved. UPDATE: They locked me out of previous codex I paid for before the next one is available for purchase. Seriously poor design. 2nd UPDATE: Now crashing when I type in the search bar. What a dumpster fire.

app would be 5 stars if you didn't have to pay to build more than 1 army and could get the codex codes virtually. more than glad to pay for some content but the subscription is simply not worth it for the majority of casual players. Especially a player base that often can barely get 1 game in a month

Why do I have to buy one of the paper books to get access, when the rules in the paper version are already invalidated? I'm not spending money to inflate your quarterly revenues GW. I'm going to go use newrecruit and wahapedia.

It works but battlescribe is still better for looks and functionality. Biggest disappointment is they don't updat the app with new things the day of the drop so why not just stick with BattleScribe or someone else at that point. edit: new recruit is probably the best option out there don't waste your time and money on this app. use new recruit its just better and cheaper if your willing to pay you get so much more for your money.

Worst App ever, the flow sucks, it doesnt show you how many of each weapon you have compared to War Organ app, its clunky as hell. making an army list is so limited, how the hell can i add 100 of a weapon when i only have 10 mini, do you not know how to put max cap. You require a subscription to Warhammer+ to even make more than one list at a time, and almost every army is locked behind requiring a "codex code", meaning on top of your monthly or annual subscription, you need to buy $60 codexes for the code in the back to unlock the army's rules in the app. Not to mention the $60 spent on a codex is useless after a few years, when the next edition comes out. Games Workshop (also known as 'Warhammer') clearly prioritizes profits over players, avoid. 👎🏻

Add the units like any Red Gobbo and the small Squiggoth to legends and I'm instantly changing this to 5 stars! but good start added a few legends units but still very very pay to use app.

I bought the $80 version assuming I could use the app. Clearly that was a poor assumption however as I still cannot review or access any of the data cards for my armies. really lame and unclear monetization. I don't understand how you can expect me to spend $80 on the app and an additional $60 per army codex just to have the rules to a game I have already spent thousands on...

its one of the best app and I hope you all play this amazing game

app constantly has problems. if you want more than one army list you have to have a warhammer subscription. all this on top of them hiking prices on the subscription, minis and now separating sprues from kits that previously had them then selling both kits for more than they originally cost. just use newrecruit they dont beg for your money unlike GW

Awful, my load out is wrong. What's wrong? Not even GW knows, so they left that out of the app. New Recruit does this for you. why pay for this rubbish

Great App

Terrible app on top of the macro transactions. 60$ books required for rules when other apps have it all for free makes this a terrible choice.

I think its a good app, hate that GW keeps increasing their pricing, but you can use it to list your army for free but limited to one army. Was $6.99 a month now moved to $8.99 a month. Either buy a year pass to save or cancel after a month, after you build your army list.

Keeps asking you to subscribe every time you open it, even if you just want to use it to access the codexes you bought.

whenever I uninstall the app and reinstall to refresh my app for new codexs I lose all my lists

great for people wanting to count points for an army fast

Overall, this is fantastic BUT needs more work, in particular if you're making use of the War Journal, you can't see your units, or enhancements for those units. Its just a big list. I'd like to see who has what ability, and units please. (because now it means I have to keep checking back in the Battle Forge)

literally useless. you need to buy the physical codexes for digital codes that unlock the data sheets. then, you need a monthly sub fee to make more than one army list. with both of those things, its pointless. greedy product that's on top of the models already being too expensive. no wonder sales are falling.

£6.99 per month to get more than one army list, what the hell are they smoking!?

this paywall feature needs better functionality and qol upgrades. the only good features are updates via dataslate are immediate and the new added maps for building the table. still flipping back forth when leader units are attached which is nonsense. still having to scroll endlessly to locate strategems and detachment rules. still have to scroll for enhancements that still don't say which unit they are applied to. why are some of these basics still missing??? wish they could get this right.

Love that its a all in one spot and everything you need for a Warhammer game. Keeps getting better and better. Has there been issues, sure but they are very quick to fixing them.

The app itself seems to run well enough, but the fact that you have to pay a subscription fee to unlock most of its features, AND pay for each army codex to unlock faction datasheets, on top of the already quite pricey minis, pushes this app towards generating ill-will among GW's customer base. I don't mind paying the high price for minis, I don't even mind having to buy army codexes and rulebooks, except for their being obsolete soon after publication, but to then have to pay a monthly sub...

l'App fonctionne très bien. Par contre les règles disponibles gratuitement ne suffisent pas. L'abonnement proposé est soit trop cher soit il n'y a pas assez de contenu disponible pour le prix proposé. Le déblocage des datasheet possible seulement par achat du codex alors que les règles et datasheet sont disponibles gratuitement sur d'autres sites est ridicule.

This app is useless for new players trying to get into Warhammer. Being a warhammer+ subscriber only lets you create more than 1 army list, if you want to see the stats of anything, you need to buy the faction's physical $60 codex for a code and that only unlocks just that specific army. I just wanted a place to see data sheets and learn what different factions were capable of. Google it is then.

updated the app and lost the ability to play combat patrol with Strike Force Octavius that I just bought. no wonder everyone loves 40k but not GW

This is a great tool to use to compliment the rule book and codex you already would own. Its extremely convenient to check stats, definitions, or rules associated with abilities. Kinda like a more in depth digital data cards. Another handy thing it does is keeping you up to date on points and rules when they change. You can also export a neatly done copy of your list to print or share with people you play. No complaints.

good app because it works like it should until you realise that you need to pay to do most things on the app, such as looking at rules or buying the codex so you can put a code so you can see the datasheets in the app, you also need to subscribe if you want more than 1 army at a time, you can just go to wahapedia and it takes a little more time to search up datasheets and rules, but it's all free and updated most the time so its kind of a waste of money buying codexs when free websites exist

I've been a member for a few years it's finally kinda sorta worth it.
