A lot of key functionality is locked behind a pay wall. It's ridiculous that to see the temparature profile for a previous day is locked behind a paywall. It's a joke! The unit is good and easy to setup but the fact that I cannot see how the thermostat worked a previous day stinks of greed.

This is easily one of the worst apps I've ever used. It is so full of bugs that it drives me mad. If you get a new phone you'll spend weeks messing about trying to explain it to this awful app. I'm getting a new thermostat because I cannot cope with this garbage app anymore. I hate Google for killing my perfect 13 year old Nest.

Useless notification categories: general and Geofencing, what about how to disable the "you saved x past Month" but keep important things like open window detected?

Awful. no way to get rid of the promotional AI assist offer. When you press the button you get an animation first. A bird animation even when I've disabled open window detection. I just want to see the temperature!

Limiting API calls for third party integrations unless you pay. Not a good look. Dishonest company who censor reviews on other platforms. Just avoid.

I am rather fed up with the app and the ecosystem as a whole. Every new bridge is no longer compatible with previous devices with no regard for the paying customer. Bridge X is not compatible with old thermostats, even though they could have added 6LoWPAN. The v3+ bridge does not get Matter support even though it can already handle HAP. And finally, there is a hard limit of 100 API calls per day to sell a subscription! The customer is here noticeably less important than the profit.

Does exactly what is needed.

tado x 2nd gen wireless. Installation of the receiver into the combi boiler was straight forward. Setup in the app was a breeze. The app itself is fine, but not quite as flexible with the settings as the old Netatmo one. Main thing I miss is being able to change the boost setting time. It's fixed at 30mins. You can work around this if you use the app. However if you have someone who just wants to use the physical thermostat then the 30mins is limited. Please add to app suggestions list.

Paid £30 for their Auto Assist 7 days ago. Not been able to control my heating since. It's been on constantly. The house is hotter than hell and costing me a fortune. I have to keep turning it off at the boiler which defeats the whole purpose of having the "smart" thermostat in the first place. So I have cancelled it, and been told there are no refunds! Don't waste your money.

For some reason, since the last update, the app no longer notifies me when I leave/return home. The geofencing works, but there's no notification. I've tried reinstalling, clearing cache, checking permissions etc., so it's clearly an issue with the app.

First smart insights was free then it became AI assist so now it costs a monthly subscription just to check if it is to humid or dry in your room or check your energy consumption from your bills and the AI assist in smart insights doesn't really add anything to that feature so this felt a lot like a bait and switch since there was no hints these features would someday be behind a pay wall also the open window detection doesn't work most of the time which is also a huge let down

After last UI update, the bottom bar with Home, Settings and More is behind the Android controls, so it can't be accessed.

So far, it has been a good experience, the app is intuitive and i have seen improvements since i started to use it. I'm more than satisfied

I have v3 and wanted to upgrade to X. However this isn't possible. The help pages are of no use and the ai chat is of no help. When I joined tado 8 years ago you could phone or email for help. Another company that thinks silly ai chat bots are good customer service.

The wireless receiver fails to communicate with the internet bridge. It refuses to turn off the boiler when instructed to, even after waiting 5 minutes. The heating is switched on. The only way to correct this fault is to unplug the boiler and the wireless receiver, wait 5 minutes then plug back in. In the app, everything is connected. Is it a fault with cloud communication?

Excellent application, easy to use and good looking. I would prefer Language setup (Hungarian). Also, it would be a good idea to integrate currency selection for Energy IQ feature. Great work guys!

Great concept and feature sets dont get me wrong if you are looking for tapo x all im solution + cost it's ideal. But its subscription pay walled on top of the devices high upfront cost and manufacturer lockin ie tapo x with tapo x devices with the exception of 3rd party home automation apps for basic on, off or temp. Any future researchers looking into tapo x ecosystem should seriously consider this, unlike myself who eas sold from the marketing to then regret the decision lol

The app has just had an update, since then I keep losing connection with the thermostat, in the last 24 hrs I have had to do a factory reset approx 5 times, please fix as never had a problem before the update.

It's not bad system, but there's not real customers support, hiding all contact details and using programmed answers going around in circles. There's no proper manuals, explaining software. It's another dodgy company who makes software for your product which you already paid for, and for full functionality asking monthly payment. You bought product to save money, not giving your money away. Companies need to make money on product not on software for product. Product without software is useless.

the best smart heating controller by far and i fit loads of different ones

nice app. however, the two thermostat x doesn't seem to support cooling mode, which is a shame as my heat pump can do this. we work around it by turning the heating to maximum in hot weather and switching out her pump to cooling mode. this keeps the radiator valves open during cool water cycles. would prefer a proper tado controls solution though.

Good App but the eero WiFi and Tado don't get on every time the eero has an update I lose around 30% of my smart valves then I have to reboot the eero. This is a pain if im away I come home to a cold house Please fix this Tado

maybe the worst piece of tech I've ever purchased, app is very basic, thermostat shows the heating too overshoot massively wasting energy heating the house to a temperature not requested. eventually the hub decided to stop working and had now been taken out. going back under warranty for a refund and to buy something that works

Why can't I control hot water on a schedule with opentherm system boiler? This is basic functionality, when I am away from home or it is night time I do not want it to waste energy heating my tank! with my previous thermostat I could set it to a low temp, not available with tado X, but was a feature on tado 3+ why has this been dropped? Also the mounting part of pairing is difficult, sometimes that part completes on the tado X TRV but the app still shows a spanner saying it needs to be done.

Easy to understand and use for us over 50's. This thermostat has kept the rooms constantly comfortable unlike my last thermostat that seemed to get confused and turn off. In the last three months of use I've seen my electricity use decrease. It's paid for itself X2 in that short time. The app offers advanced controls for a subscription, but I've found the standard ones fine for my use. The nice thing is that it doesn't constantly push these features over and over.

Tado X was advertised as Matter over Thread, but the bridge is closed off so you need another. The knobs also don't expose direct valve control or the temperature offset. Can't use the knob as a knob, or the schedule breaks. The 'smart' thermostat overshoots the set temperature and the AI adaptive heating somehow makes it worse. Open window detection works maybe 1 in 3 times. And now my heating app suddenly has a tile for smart charging?? I don't even own a car. At least the app is smooth to use

Adding humidity on tiles is very useful. Best update for very long time but now charging tile is very unnecessary. I don't need it. I cancelled subscription as it went up to £30 per year makes it quite expensive for geolocation control.

Since a recent update if I keep pressing the back button on my phone the Tado app does not exit. it flickers between the main screen and the Tado orange splash screen. The only way to exit the app is to use the button that shows currently running apps and then swipe the Tado app off screen to close it down.

So far so good. It tells you when the batteries on the Thermostats need charging and I have a spare to swap out. AI heating claims to save energy, I need to check stats to see if is also saving money.

I use hone assistant for everything and don't need this Tado app just for the radiors. The OAuth stuff is also super annoying, need manually login every day or so. Oh yeah and your navigation os broken btw, can't navigate back or click the close button to go to home overview.

horrible devices and app: 1) extremely expensive for broken functionality and battery life, 2) connectivity is ONLY via the main antenna - thermostats do not create a mesh so your radiators will be out of range, 3) third party integration, while advertised, breaks every couple of months because of token expirations. none of these issues have solutions, aside from "upgrade to our new products for €500". Save yourself and buy any alternative for half the price.

We started with just a wireless thermostat, it was easy to install and worked well. We soon got into the app features. Then came links with Alexa and thermostatic valves. All working very well. We would hate to go back to the old way.

Well done tado for not downgrading user experience with each update or moving basic functions behind subscriptions fees. I will continue to recommend your thermostats to friends.

We would like simple control of our Tado resistor thermostats, and do not use any advanced features. For use then, the Tado app is reliable and easy to use.

the Smart Schedule from Tado is probably the dumbest thing you will ever see. instead of always stop heating at 21:30 for example it can be easily interrupted by twisting the knob, your whole schedule will stop and the Tado will continue to heat the house until you notice and change it back in the app. also when you change the temperature in the app you have to be careful that you won't interrupt the schedule. just make a regular schedule that will always stop and start heating at noted times.

I've been using the app for a season now and it's good with a few obvious problems. Minor one geofencing only works for the primary user and doesn't register other members of the household. Major one the open window detection is awful as soon as the temperature outside rises. There needs to be an option to indicate open windows manually since automatic detection is spotty. Energy IQ is useless at least for now, maybe with more data it will improve

The app is pretty flawless at the moment.

I bought a Tado thermostat mainly to control heating remotely, but it’s not truly “smart.” If you set a target temperature for 8:00, it only starts heating at 8:00 instead of learning when to start so the room reaches that temperature by then. It also shuts off only after hitting the target, causing the room to overshoot. A smart thermostat would anticipate both. I don’t see how Tado helps save on heating costs.

Updated - over a year later the app is clunky and more unreliable than ever. Random setting changes. broken Auto Assist is unreliable at best. Random manual changes and they also break auto assist. First warning is a cold house. It's barely functional.

The company started pushing their expensive subscription service for basic stuff and now are limiting API calls for those of us that are using other applications to manage the hardware.

Overall experience is so good, but the open window detection requires subscription and not compatible with smart window detection devices and the AI does not detect opened windows in most cases.

About the only criticism that Which? made of the room thermostat was the lack of what you can operate/set from the unit itself. Well, that's very much where the app comes in. And you can do so much from the app - timings, individual rooms, remote access, etc There is no need for the subscription-only functions - and I hope that Tado° doesn't reduce free functions and place them within the subscription section, or I'm off! But, as things are, the whole thing, app included, is great.

the biggest flaw with the product is that it can't accommodate more than one location. "Buy another phone" is what they tell you to do. But even then, you can only subscribe ONCE for the geo tracking/open window feature per google user. so I'll need a second Google account just so geo fencing works at my home and workshop at the same time. in hindsight it would have been simple to but a different brand for my second location.

whatever you do, do not buy from Tado. Their customer service is non existent and they deliberately make it impossible to contact them. I am stuck in an endless loop trying to send my devices back but there is no way to do it. Rip off.

initially, frustrated with set up but be patient and follow the process and it works very well.

latest update made a bad system worse. DO NOT BUY Tado, radiators randomly coming on but not scheduled. this has been an intermittent issue since I first bought the system 3 years ago. I have not saved any money, it's wasting heating oil. I bought 8 trv's for nearly €1000 and am now only using 5 and the rest are traditional trv's.....oh, and now support is AI...

AI features pushed without asking for 8 days once account is created. (and can't be deactivated) AI decided to shut down heaters for no reasons. Onboarding and documentation missing the right moment/format (pieces in the app, on the web, or even in PDF, 2026 guys, a PDF 🤦🏻‍♂️). You can tell the app was made by marketers and developers, and the designers were not heard. Having to scan a QR Code on a Matter compatible device while Google Home detected it on its own. The app is a disappointment.

Utterly disappointed in how Tado handles 3rd party integration. Makes life hell for anyone using Home Assistant.

Terrible app if you want to use it with home assistant, it's requiring you to re-authenticate on almost daily basis and sometimes more than once per day. I will get rid of all the thermometers

Why can't I connect other third-party devices to the Matter bridge? Where can I find the bridge password? Also, if I try to add Tado to Google Home, it says there are no compatible devices, while the Tado app shows all of them.

App itself is ok, what is lacking is Tado X matter support, TRV doesn't report battery status to Matter hub, as result you can expect battery will deplete and you will need 2h of changing it before you can use your Tado X again.

I started with Tado 3 years ago largely because I read of excellent support but now having issues with random hot water and support is virtually non existent v disappointed time to look for an alternative

i've used the tado on 6 rads for over three years i'm now going to link up another 4. great system, i can shut off rooms when they are not in use with ease. So easy to set up.

looks like usability is being limited once again for home assistant users. I would not recommend tado anymore to anyone. You buy a product and then they change the rules. really unfortunate because it used to be everything I needed. They are losing many customers this way.

Tado TRV (Smart Radiator Thermostat X) valves do not modulate whatsoever. They stay 100% closed until the difference reaches nearly +2 °C, then snap open to maximum. No fine proportional control at +0.5 or +1 °C – they act like a cheap binary relay, not a smart thermostat. This causes major delays, aggressive overheating, and temperature swings. Support completely ignores the real issue and keeps sending the same nonsense. Expensive, poorly designed, doesn't deliver what it promises. AVOID.

return this a buy something more consumer friendly. constantly increasing restrictions on the hardware I paod for in full barely usable now. simple things like linking hot water AND heating are not available in the app and MUST be done elsewhere like home assistant, but they effectively blocked that now 3 years later. not the same product

Terrible company, keep away from them. First they started to hide basic features behind a subscription paywall, and now they added a limit of 100 API calls per day, causing my Home Assistant installation to lose access to Tado devices once I reached the ridiculously low API limit. I don't want to freeze, so I'm binning all your devices and going to some other brand.

Very good app. I use Hive in another property and in my opinion Tado is way better. shame you can't control 2 or more properties with a single Tado account.

In general, good and easy to use. One very annoying problem if you want to manage more than one home: you can't. There is the option to change the name and address of a home, delete a home, but not add a different one. The only workaround I can find is to have a completely separate account for each property. Since the hardware is not cheap, only getting 1 week's worth of auto-assist before having to subscribe grates a bit since it's kind of core to a smart product.

I'm not too sure about the app as I don't use it. But don't want to pass up the opportunity to tell everyone how brilliant the equipment is. Works like a charm. Unlike hive, which works like a curse.

Today, my system even malfunctioned, causing my house to use 3 times the amount of gas because the tado system kept telling my boiler and floor heating to continue.

Update on the slow response with the boiler which has been fixed on the server side of tado. Still weird that this issue depends on a remote server. The app itself is mediocre and annoying. The slider to change the temperature is terrible. Very difficult to set the desired temperature because the slider is so sensitive. Also for what you pay you would expect more than just only 1 day history. Furthermore the intrusive ads to push the AI assist is really annoying.

I think the app is okay and the thermostat works, but the most basic "smart" features are behind a paywall. Any savings that the "adaptive heating" may bring are offset by the subscription that doesn't include anything above basic functionality. In addition, the matter compatibility is fairly useless, as any change in temperature halts the schedule and requires opening the app to resume it manually. If a setting is added that forces matter updates to respect the schedule I might consider 2 stars

Reliable, affordable, smart and elegant

They are trying to sell you basic features as something really premium. IMHO they should be included if you pay that much money for the devices. It seems like they wanna annoy you into monthly subscriptions. The app itself is ok, no breaking bugs. UI is not too overloaded on most pages, but the concept is not that smart in some cases. For example: it tells me, that I used the heater X% less this month. What am I going to do with this info? Of course I don't heat mid September...

So simple controlling central heating/hot water from mobile app that allows timetables, or override from home; also anywhere that has internet access (forgot to turn heating/water down before holiday?). Easy to check current temperature and if reacting to program change. Can be set to automatically react when within a given distance from home. I used Tado instructions to fit (replacing controller/adjuster), but a basic electrical knowledge is desirable or get an electrician involved. Good buy!

when this was a hardware company with free software it was well with the premium cost. Now they charge for additional services to save more energy, and I'm wondering why I did not choose an open hardware platform with paid software instead.

AI rubbish available on app if u can be bothered. multiple users so on our village hall heating that is great.. room stat neat n just stick on wall. hub might be a bit light happy 4 some if in eye view. been using for 3 weeks now n not missed a beat ..

I have been really pleased with this system, it was a little tricky to set up initially at times, but support were responsive and Gemini very helpful in answering all my 'stupid' questions that would have been hard to find otherwise. Still not sure what the big display device is useful for, but the app is brilliant

The app was great when set up initially (4,5 out of 5 stars), but when I invited an additional user the app reset and I was kicked out of my own home. Now it does not even recognise I have a Tado device in the house, while the additional person only sees the basic setup, not the schedules I had set up already.

An app and service that are astonishingly frustrating at every level. Customer support is infuriating—no live chat, only slow email .shocking lack of competence, usability, and respect for their customers. Tado AI makes you waste even more fuel. you set room temp to 20 Degrees ,it stops at 18 and may start again 1 hour later, the radiator valve starts closing before temp is reached shortening you BOILER PUMP's LIFESPAN. STAY AWAY. I'm burning more fuel than I ever did before.

Total control of your heating at a reasonable cost. I'll use this system in any property I own. It's really simple to use and responds quickly.

For 4 years update after update and all we are told is Various UI, stability and performance improvements. My Hydronic Underfloor Heating system seems to just get worse and worse and need more manual intervention. Tado promises so much and delivers so little.

The heating sometimes turns on outside of the scheduled time. It drives me mad, I honestly don't understand why this is happening. we usually find out because we wake up at 3am sweating. I am currently going around the house feeding my children extra water because the heating was on full blast.. even though my timer said it out to have switched off twelve hours ago. the only solution is for me to actively switch the heating on and off on the app rather than rely on the timer

good all round heating app. I've tried a few options, including the junk that is home assistant, and came back to tado. the app is simple, intuitive and easy to use. tado x (used v3 previous) all linked first time without issue and the app always works and is responsive. the trvs and temp sensors themselves are generally good, but the app is probably the strongest point of the system

even on the paid version there needs to be a feature showing who changed the temperature. when given access to multiple people it's hard to see who changed anything.

Most of the things work only with paid subscription. Very bad approach. Cannot even check before midnight temperature data, basically a few minutes ago. mean, very mean.

App keeps wanting open in the browser, and doesn't work with Internet Explorer. Tried in Chrome then it wouldn't recognise the password so had to setup a new account!

Horrible customer service. You can't talk to any humans and the robot is useless. I've ordered a kit, they've taken my money, but now there's no update since then. And there's no way of checking where it is or how long it will take for the kit to arrive.

Could be better. Geofencing withous user permissions is useless. Temporary schedule modifications for selected rooms is missing. Holiday function is limited and part of the subscription.

The intrusive push for subscription payments undermines an otherwise good product. The latest, animated and non hidable "smart automation" link pasted in to the top of the home screen isn't just awful design, it undermines trust in a product and service I have already paid for. I suspect I'll be looking to go fully local through Home Assistant in the future. I'm already having issues with expiring tokens with HASS and this more aggressive push for subs is plain enshittification.

A good, well planned app however be careful how you preconfigure your old system to help with the new install as you could lose important options (like the hot water tile on the main screen) if you get it wrong.

I am saving £100s every year I use this at my home has never been warmer. having the controls to only heat the rooms I use without wasting energy and the ability to control the boiler by only having heating when needed is fantastic. easy to install and even easier to use....even with my oil fired combination boiler. my only regret is not installing Tado sooner

I like the app, but I am disappointed that in the past 3 years no improvements were made, specifically for floor-heating systems. In the age of AI, the system is not smart enough.

a great and flexible system. but could be improved by being able to save settings for room temperature in a couple of versions. ie how we want the house when we have guests staying (all rooms warmer for a few days and different times, then when they leave revert to how just the 2 of us use the house - completely different settings for all rooms timings and temperature..

read the latest reviews. tells you all you need to know. it used to work ok ..even good. but the bean counters have ruined it .now i am here at 4am trying to turn OFF my boiler as it has started firing without requirement .

Do not buy Tado! Basic free version works only on 1 phone or one user. Main user and guest user cannot be logged at the same time.Disappointed 😞. My airconditioner app is running on all my devices free off charge. Greatly basters!

Last version is the best

All fine for a single home. Useless for a second home. A major reason why I bought this is to preheat our holiday home before arrival (or our main home before return) which apparently I cannot do. Major flaw that needs to be fixed.

i bet the ux guys of tado dont have a tado because the ux of the app could be better, sure it looks good, but the app is full of illogical and confusing things. I bought tado because of the radiator valves, but if nest would make radiator valves, i would switch immediately
