OMG - there is a fundamental fault with converting an activity into a route. If you do anything during this process which the phone considers a swipe, a completed activity conversion (but not saved) will slide off the screen to be lost forever. The activity conversion process can be re-started, but anything (and everything) you have typed so far is lost. NICE ONE OS MAPS - a really good feature... (NOT!).

Doesn't always save the route I took at the finish. Very hit and miss. Quite frustrating particularly when I'm trying a new route. Otherwise I like the functionality, reasonable detail etc

my go to app when out and about...

great to record but hopeless when plotting a route. Between two points on a bridle way it decides to take you back and on a five mile detour and refuses to allow you to plot. So annoying.

Despite it's name OS maps doesn't display Ordnance Survey maps

I have used the app for several years. Now, suddenly, I go to record a route and it doesn't work, just draws straight lines starting from when I have the app open and finishing when I open it again. It follows fine when I am looking and stops the minute I lock the screen. The only option for use of location is "open when using app" This is the main thing I pay for.

I'm finding it a bit tricky to get the hang of this app, but I'll persevere .. some beginners' instructions would help. Can't seem to exit from this public review screen. ????

Need to sign In to use the app, very stupid for a maps app to require sign in. None of the basic functionality of locating yourself on an app requires a login. Now I need to sit up a hill trying to reset my password.

Just so cool to always know where you are. My first predefined route was excellent...despite one or two hiccups trying to find junctions.

I wonder if the devs have ever used this app? We have lost the ability to retrace part of a route. A route which relies on a walk in, a circuit and a walk out on the same track as the walk in now cannot be plotted. This is ludicrous, ridiculous and displays s deep ignorance of user's needs. Fix it please

Won't let me unsubscribe. I'm not going to be using the app for a while and have a premium subscription. Everything in the app works, but as soon as I go to my subscription I get 'error, try again later' so I can't stop paying.

Be cautious about using routes set by users. They're not always real routes and sometimes include impassable or private land.

This is a brilliant app although its not the most intuitive to use and if you are heading away from signal yb ou do need to prepare and download in advance.

Lots of route suggestions which is really useful PLUS I've never got lost with the app!

importing gpx files no longer works . I just get a invalid gpx message even though the file was created on another phone with os maps app (and sent to me on whatsapp)

A great digital extension of the always wonderful OS maps

os maps is the original and Premier mapping software for the UK. You don't need a degree to use it, which is ideal for me. I've done over 500 mountains in the UK and Ireland with it.

Great app apart from recent change in the route planner where it won't now let you continue creating the route if it goes back over a section that you've already plotted. Now it just wants to create an extra point on that part of the route and won't allow you to make it part of a return/repeated section. Needs to be fixed pronto. A lot of routes can involve repeating a section so this is not a useful update, at all. A real backward step!

I have been happily subscribing and using this for years but recently it has been IMPOSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD GPX FILES!!. I can't receive routes shared to me. I have to look at the image and then try to re-create the route manually. OS tell me this is a COMMON PROBLEM and they are trying to fix it. But there seems to be no urgency about this. Another recent problem is that when creating a route, the app now no longer allows you to return via the route you started out on! IM DESPERATE. PLEASE SORT.

This app was very useful for planning my runs as I could create a route and easily see the distance. Since a recent update though, if you want to turn around you can no longer click back onto your original path, as it just gives you an option to "add a point". Really strange change to make as now I can no longer plan routes where I have to go back part of the way I came, which makes this useless for me. Will cancel soon if it's not changed back to how it was before.

Since the recent upgrade, every time I open the app, it goes straight to an ongoing route screen. I can't get out of it, I click on 'pause' and then on 'finish', but it doesn'tgo any further. No activity has been logged on the screen either. I'm stuck on the screen and can't access any other OS app features. I pay an annual subscription for an app that doesn't work anymore.

I have a Premium subscription which due to a technical issue I cannot use for a trip this weekend. OS help were responsive and polite, but could not do anything and have raised it with the 'technical team' with a 2-day response time expected. I chose OS Maps over the numerous other competitors because I thought it would be reliable, which it is clearly not. This is disappointing and I am cancelling my subscription.

I love the quality of the map and the ease of use. the distance estimates in the tracking are very inaccurate. I will walk 18k and it thinks I walked 24k.

Could be so much better. App is either made to order or not developed by people who use it. App lacks many useful features. Search, for example, is next to useless. If I search for a type of feature or word (eg "roman") I want to see the results on the map. I want to see what's the nearest "roman" match to me. if I'm in Scotland there's no point showing me matches in London at the top of the list as I am nowhere near there. As I say, the people in charge of the app design don't actually use it.

I do like the app but the mapping does go mad sometimes and put me places I've never been, and keeps trying to record my same walk over and over which is a bit annoying!

I do not have this problem with GMAIL

Routes aren't accurate. Wear OS app is just a white screen. more is a frustration than a help.

The best mapping and route planning there is, bar none.

Initially sceptical; being an old luddite, but absolutely love it. Haven't quite got to grips with its complexities, however I'm persevering. I would thoroughly recommend this app!

OS maps are some of the best in the world in my opinoion. and when OS launched this app and service they droped the price of the digial versions of there maps by 90% compared to the previous vendors. i always go to this when i want to plan a outdoor rout. and its cool to see them getting US and australian topo maps on there too. id love it if i could use this for more cases when i need maps. i.e so i could use google less. and in this day and age tek soverntie is more important than ever.

The subscription seems worthwhile for access to all maps, but the app has some annoying limitations. As others have said, the download areas are too small to be useful. I also find the units options frustratingly limited - I want to use miles for distance and metres for elevation, but that's not available! Why not? Also when walking, despite having downloaded the area for offline use, the basemap imaging sometimes just disappears with no clues as to how to revive it.

I have been very disappointed with recent update changes and faults appearing, also previous functions stopped working because of this.

Brilliant App and have used it over many years. But now I wish to cancel my subscription. Easier said than done. The subscription tag in the App settings tells me "something went wrong" and to try again, which I have tried over a number of days without success. So I logged in to the web site and tried to cancel there, but then it simply opened my App. I'm just going round in circles here. So how can I cancel?

Love OS maps, even better with the OS maps app.

The app's great in principle but... it has a tendency to freeze on Android (Samsung Galaxy S20FE) - and IF it responds to touch, there's no app Exit option! On my fully charged Google Pixel watch 3 the app's great - except it drained the battery to zero in under 90 minutes!!! Nice concept, completely inept execution - like the software developers don't understand basic, essential requirements of the hardware for a useful user experience. Do any of them actually USE the app?

Really good route beautiful views

I admit thst OS maps are the best all-round maps. Whether you're a driver and/or a hiker like me, and tryjng out other hiking apps, OS maps are the ones I'm most familiar with.

The good- being able to see OS maps on my watch is great. it's very useful for following trails or runs, and the phone app allows me to create routes with ease. The bad- using the watch alone and gps drains battery rapidly. i have a new galaxy watch 8 which fully drained within around 7 hours, but this can be managed better through using gps via phone i think. The main issue is stability- app is difficult to close, and seems to crash when saving routes, which is frustrating.

zoom in and you just get a white map with no information. app is rubbish and I pay a subscription. won't renew again! they need to sort app issues. very clunky

Seems to work really well although I'm having problems verifying payment with my bank and getting back to the app to confirm. I'm

overall pretty good however number one frustration is the app telling me to turn off battery saving to record route when I've not set the app to record a route! it also seems to struggle to show topo maps on occasions when though I'm a premium subscriber and have downloaded the route - quite often i have to toggle map type.

Easy to use. I really like how it tells you how long a proposed route should take. So much quicker than all those calculations of miles per hour elevation

I use this app alot and until recently have had no issues. Now I am unable to open/download a route that has been shared with me. Will now have to go elsewhere which is a shame.

I'm sure it's excellent, but after several unsuccessful attempts to begin logging in ("there's been a problem, try later") it trapped me in a loop of insisting I checked my email but not letting me into the app, directing me to a registration website. Unimpressed. Uninstalled.

Used OS Maps for years now & overall love it! No hesitation in recommending it especially for hiking, & hikers.

another money grabbing app

I've had this app on my phone for many years and have paid for the OS Maps Premium service throughout. The app stooped working about 6 months ago and having renewed the Premium service recently I decided to remove the App and start again. I have had several tries to reinstall the app but every time I do it tells me that the app is already installed on my phone which it quite clearly isn't.

Not being able to open the app, asks to create a new account, then says the password is wrong, follow the link to reset and repeat. Waste of time that was

This was a really useful app. They have now decided to remove functionality to pressure people into subscribing. I have a subscription. My husband has bought hundreds of maps, so just wants to use them, but they have moved the map layout behind a pay wall, making a nonsense of the "Free Digital Download" label on paper maps. I suggest they put more effort into improving the tool and less into blackmailing paying customers into subscribing.

Invaluable route planning tool.

Just 3 stars because the resolution is too low, and theres no ability to draw on or to buy higher resolution maps. The whole appeal of Ordnance Survey is the level of detail only they can provide. Also, theres no ability to compare the past with the present . OS is the only company with such history, let us access it. Again, I'm happy to pay, just let me buy these things. 6 inch mile, 25 inch mile. zone boundaries etc Walk paths are free on googlemaps/ googleearth. Give me mapping precision.

No1 app for me. Use it at least once a week. Exploring on the doorstep.

Brilliant Mapping App

Awful App, 1:25k lock never works, whoever designed this app has never been on a walk or tracked a walk. The tracking just stops without warning, and the whole interface is cumbersome and confusing. I do subscribe to the maps but really they need to start again. just awful.

I've been a big fan of OS paper maps for over 50 years. Absolutely brilliant mapping app. Does everything I need. Detailed digital maps on the go. Planning, recording and sharing of routes. Very good value annual plan. Thank you.

despite uninstalling and reinstalling the app I keep getting an error message 'sorry something went wrong'. The only error is the error message as everything works well.

Errors everywhere. Try to get premium "Something went wrong", try to confirm email "Sorry, something went wrong", try to use chat support during published hours "Chat service is currently unavailable."

It could be a weird coincidence but I find it odd that when my subscription is up for renewal I can't access my subscription details through the app. Nor as it turns out can I access my account through a web browser at all.

This is a good app. The GPS works well and the app is easy to use overall. It would be nice if we could add pictures of our walks along with the written description.

Great but one star until OS sorts out the problem with the north point orientation not staying fixed, as mentioned by several others. It is REALLY annoying.

properly once of the worst mapping applications out there premium does allow gpx download but only from the web not from the app it's self. then you try to download the map for offline. Map is not supported for Ireland well that was a waste of money

I love having all the os maps right there on my phone. the search feature is not always helpful however. you type a place name in and it takes you somewhere completely different

Its been very useful for logging each cycle ride until August 21st when it refused to zero at the start of each activity and the maps overwrote giving nonsense end of ride data.

Helpful maps, like OS is always. The reports of problems on the path are useful. However, it would be better if offline maps weren't Premium.

Forgot my password and everytime I try to reset it the link in the email sends me back to the page to request a reset link, which is what I've just done. Very frustrating and rubbish. Steve.

Not used as much as I thought. Trying to cancel via app but page conyinually in error for the last three weekd. Tried via chay anf it sends me round in circles. App is OK but I don't want to pay for another year. What a struggle!

Excellent app both for free roam navigation and for finding walking routes of suitable length in locations near and far in the UK.

Everytime I download maps and then review later, sone of the maps havent downloaded. What makes this worse is the resume option dosent work and the delete forever and remove options dont work either. Therefore 50% of the maps saved offline are not actually there and you cant clean them out from the downloaded maps 🤬

Unreliable. Insists there isn't an internet connection when there is, and downloaded maps won't load without a connection (despite this being the point of downloading them)

update 2 reinstalling the app seems to have fixed it. update... recently the map has started to rotate to point north when I am tracking my walk. this is ****** annoying as I need to keep turning the phone. I can't find a way to o correct this. any ideas? previous review + Excellent -When it works it is brilliant, revolutionised hill walking.

Super detail & accuracy

Good app, but not great at opening where you left off.

Brilliant software. If you are going somewhere without signal, maps can be downloaded.

Used this app last year to monitor joggi g/cycling trips.Worked fine and easy to use.Back using it this summer and now seems to be buggy.Recorded Activities seem to just dissappear or no route data available,then magically reappear sometimes hours later. Annoying glitch is when you to start an activity,then cancel and restart afresh.Nope.It will not forget.Have to restart phone to clear values.Great when it works.Get it sorted. So that's the OS and Met Office messed up their apps.

Usability of this app is terrible. It will show me routes that are 'close to me' which is funny because I'm based in the north of Ireland and it's showing me routes in mainland Scotland? when there are hundreds of routes in Ireland

why is it when I create a map, then save it, It'll save with the correct distance, time and elevation, but then upon opening a saved route it now defaults to displaying statistics for a point halfway along the elevation profile rather than the overall route statistics, making a 15.23-mile route appear to be 7.62 miles, its very very annoying.

tried twice over the years on a free trial, ended up subscribing to an alternative. biggest and only downfall on this app for me is that it will not lock into "North Up" mode when navigating. every time you swith phone off or navigate to another app and come back to your route, even if left in "North Up" mode, it's spinning round and trying to show "direction up" fix this and I would subscribe over and over but without it, way to annoying, a game changer.... get it sorted!

useful app when out exploring

Brilliant map for hobby hikers like me.

As often happens another upgrade means something will not work! Searching for place names now just produces lists of roads etc in faraway places. Very annoying. A shame because I use the app a lot for route planning, tracking etc. But why must they quite often produce updates that make it harder to use?!

I love the fact that it's a proper OS map that also shows where you are. There used to be a function where you could point your camera at the view and it would show you lots of banners with points of note in the vicinity- I wish you'd bring that back!

Maps are great but search facility is useless, can't find anywhere, I was entering some small villages and it couldn't find them, yet they are clearly there on the map

Incredibly useful in all respects. I ride green lanes on my motorcycle so this is ideal for identifying which lanes are permissible and which aren't. Plus it's good for planning routes and just general navigation.

I use this app all the time and have done so for many years. I would have awarded 5 stars but have an issue that I can't resolve. I have maps that I've tried to download in saved offline maps that won't neither download or delete. please help.

Update: crashed again! Now I can't print my routes. why do I pay for this app? I think the app has got much worse over time. I have loads of issues now that never occurred before and, as a result, will not be renewing. Update - even more issues. Whenever I search for a town or city, the only options that appear are in the US. Ridiculous!

Edit - following reply from developer, the issues has been rectified... Either cos something was done or because it just needed a bit of time to sort itself Redeemed paper maps remain available offline only if the app was started while online. If the app is launched from scratch with no network connection, the redeemed maps are unavailable, despite having been redeemed. This suggests the app requires an online entitlement check at startup rather than using locally stored offline entitlements.

DO NOT USE THIS APP THEY MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION! I THOUGHT THOSE KIND OF BAD CORPORATE PRACTICES WERE OVER, USE ANYTHING BUT OS MAPS! One year later and still my signal isn't strong enough to access my subscription to cancel it off. And it was purchased through OS online not through the Google Play. Deplorable corporate tactics. 2 days later and apparently my Internet connection is still not strong enough to to view my subscription. Any feeble excuse.

The download maps option is difficult to understand, it used to be simple. Whenever I open a map I get a white screen for 5 or 10 seconds which is quite a bore. the compass seems to like to spin randomly so you're forever hitting centre to make it face north. update: constantly scanning for WiFi even though this is turned off and draining battery?? the spinning compass is still happening, as is the white screen for detailed map view

I love this app.

I like to download the mobile version of paper maps,that I have. Most are fine, but I have 2 that won’t download properly. They download so far and then the app closes and it goes back to zero. I can't manually pause it or do anything with them.

I trust it more than other mapping apps when it comes to walks, however the routes feature is pretty rubbish. it seems to be reliant on community contributions which I don't trust at all.

Good to have OS 1:25000 maps always available and to have satellite images also. Annoying feature is way screen swivels around at slightest provocation. I don't use the routefinding features but would like to see a goto function added.0

I've spent a few hours trying to customise a route, but it's basically useless as a free app meaning I am definitely not going to pay any money. cannot add waypoints or shorten by moving start/end points. if I add a waypoint it removes all planning and just shows 'as the crow flies'. totally hopeless. 2 hours I'll never get back.

Another app demanding nonsensical registration. OS should be providing app for immediate emergency access for those in difficult, hazardous situations requiring urgent location information.

I find if I haven't use this app for a while, when I do and want to record my route, at the end it just gibbous, the route is jumping all over the place, even been known to walk off a cliff and out to sea. I then have to restart my mobile phone to get it to work. Now another bug has shown its head, after I record a route, it asks me if I want to save it, add a note, which I do, then press save, I go and check it in the saved section, it NOT THERE, there are just 4 saved routes.

I am very disappointed with this app. Because it is OS, I thought I would be able to navigate between point A and point B, no such luck. This app is far too complicated and not user freindly. Google Maps is far superior to this app and intuitive. This app requires a slide rule and a PhD in Geography.

Map has sprouted a "Record" button which is apparently impossible to remove! Infuriating! OS say it's a new 'feature'! Grrrrr!!

Impossible to use. Can't find routes, flooded with loads of useless misspelled routes, app thinks I don't have Internet at home on WiFi, every single thing the app should do easily it doesn't.

pay premium but cant access my saved routes in app or on web. "something went wrong try again later". why cant i access downloaded maps ?! will be cancelling subscription if it can't even access downloaded maps. also says no internet when WiFi is connected and browser etc working fine. had to cancel my walk today. edit: another Sunday and another day it won't display my map!!! tried on different devices same issue

The app is good for access to maps but saves incorrect data about distance and time of routes which means I don't trust it with anyone else's routes.

When looking for a mountain in Scotland, why do you still have to show me streets or towns in USA. It just clutters everything ip and makes what was a great app terrible to use. I'm nit talking about planning a route I'm just searching for a place so I can view the area. This will be what mist oeople do before they begin to plan. Please let me filter out street names! Please, please let me choose a default country to search in. I use it for mountain navigation- not finding streets in Idaho.

This is superbly useful and appears fault-free. Add on the reasonably-priced annual subscription for enhanced mapping and it's a total game changer for walkers. Perhaps would be nice if photos and comments could be added to the "community notes" to make them even more useful. Maybe also a way of marking that a public footpath has been used recently by another user and is in good condition / passable. Overall though, I'm just annoyed with myself for not getting this app sooner!
