As all the other reviews have said, the new update to Plex is absolutely awful. It is extremely sluggish, and most of my videos no longer work. I get an error saying the Conversion Process didn't work. An absolute nightmare.

Every update resets all of the settings I set for an old person. now I must travel to their house in order to fix it. I guess what I set up was not important to Plex. My time is valuable but not to plex. it's gotten so bad that I've decided to turn off updates until I'm actually at their house and then I must now remember to check updates while I'm there, and all the UI changes are confusing to people so stop changing the layout! fu q Plex

Easy to find movies

New update is terrible. How did this pass QA? Forward seeking is totally unusable. The moment i forward any media it will sits for 2 minutes before it starts playing. There is no next or previous button any more in the video player, you have to manually scroll down to episodes below. The UI itself is slow and unresponsive. How on earth did this pass QA? It is a regression and not an improvement over the previous major release version..

Not happy with new app, took away ability to use for audiobooks. Plexamp does not function as a replacement for this. Unable to look through folders and unable to change reader speed. Do not like having to download three apps to have partial functionality of old app. Worst UX "improvement" I've seen in a decade. For first few months could not see thumbnails on library items, so at least that got fixed. Edit: Plexamp at least allows switching libraries, minor improvement. Was still better before.

can't even run it on your home network without paying a monthly subscription...

the mobile app just isnt worth it. it takes several minutes to load in my libraries and another several minutes to load content. oh and if you need to stop playback or have to turn off your screen you have to close the app and restart. my remote access settings are all green, the windows desktop app and the desktop website work great for me and my users, the mobile expirence just isnt good.

i tried purchasing the plex pass on my samsung phone. did the payment got billed ..but the app still tells me to upgrade to plex pass. when i click on it...i get an error saying i already subscribed. but the app still shows me to upgrade. i cant cancel .. i should get a refund within 3 days. will see how that works out.

The UI is nice in many areas, except for one glaring issue. My phone has the back/home/apps buttons at bottom of the screen. I need to remove watched titles so I can upload other titles. I select the 3-dots on a title and the Remove option is under the back/home/apps buttons giving me absolutely no way to reach the option... My phone just goes back to the prior screen. I have to navigate to each title in their media folder and delete. One by one. This is terrible UI design.

Never trust this stupid apps. If ubare at your place it's works fine. But. And that the most important if U r outside of your wifi this apps lose your ip. U can't use your library. Really. Try find somethings less commercial. Really. If u are far from your server never trust PLEX. It's loose you.

I have to downgrade from the newest version. This update is completely unusable. I can't believe that it went out. Whoever decided that this was ready needs to be fired. They're completely incompetent. It literally doesn't work. Play a video file and there'll be no audio and then you hit back and hit play again and it will play the audio. Skip intro freezes every single time. It's completely unusable. they fired the dev team this is never getting fixed don't use Plex.

cannot watch 4K or any kind of high bit rate locally hosted movies as they buffer and choke constantly now. other platforms and my web browser all play the same content fine. don't bother with your cut and paste response, your forums are useless.

5 star is now 1, the new app just can't play videos withot buffering while before update was no problem at all. No photos anymore meaning i need second app... bad direction.

The new version effectively disabled access to PLEX servers if running older software, regardless of the fact IT CAN’T BE UPDATED because my server PC is running Windows 7. This dropped PLEX from position 2 to 6 (out of 7 of streaming apps) on my Shield TV favorites list (just below Pluto). I'll stick to KODI for network streaming on Android devices. Server still functional on ROKU TVs (for now), but I'll find another app when it gets broken there also (or just screencast from my tablet).

Apps do not get much worse. Absolutely atrocious in every way, but the worst part is the seeking. If I miss a part of a show (1080p x264 format) and want to rewind 10 seconds, it takes 30-120 seconds of buffering before rewind. Yes, direct stream on. No transcoding. Yes, all formats; 4k, 2k, 1080p, 720p, 480p, x265, x264, etc, etc, yes your excuses are dumb. The reason for the issue is embarrassingly bad development team and even worse decision makers.

Another round of layoffs and this app keeps getting worse. Awful updates and experience. As is well documented on their forums by the overwhelmingly bad feedback they've been receiving for months. They completely ignore user feedback, and are non responsive when contacting support for problems or complaints.

The Plex app has only become more cumbersome and manipulative over time trying to push users to their adware tv service. I have a lifetime pass and I only want to use plex for my own hosted media. Reconfiguring settings after every update to display my hosted media before Plex adware is needlessly tedious. Plexamp is the only reason to keep using Plex. If you want to host your own media locally Jellyfin is only getting better while Plex is getting worse. Rehire the client player team. AI sucks.

Great shows but after adverts the app skips to the next episode at random. This can happen multiple times when I go back to the episode I was on, advert replays and then it skips to next episode. I have autoplay turned off at it still does this. Almost unwatchable it's so frustrating.

At the end of each commercial break you're watching a different movie. so you have to shut everything down and restart at each commercial break.

I'm a pro user. And thanks to your newest interface. You've made something that was easy to use into something hard to use.... You watch later list or wish list? Used to be 2 clicks. Go to the show, hit play. And it play, especially if you own the content. Now you have to hold to bring up an extra menu to search for where to find it. Then you have to hit play. So now it's like 5 clicks. minimum more like 7 to 10 clicks ridiculous, everyone has static memory so common for software makers!

plex is greedy

Have been a loyal user since 2008, having purchased several lifetime passes for family. the app is broken, PIP doesn't work at all, shuffle disappears randomly. It is ridiculous that they have raised their price to $750 for lifetime and then cut the quality of service teams down to a skeleton crew, causing multiple outages per week for thousands and thousands of paid users. Seriously considering other options at this point. The support team does not seem to care at all and provides no feedback.

The Downloads configuration still is horrible compared to how it used to be over a year ago. I have gone back to an older version of Plex because the redesigned version removed so many key features regarding Downloads. The previous design allowed for multiple download options and to sync your downloads whenever the app was opened. It also had the episodes grouped together. This needs to be addressed!

the update undid all my parental controls AND forced all of plexs extra channels into my kids profile. Plex has outgrown its customers. wish I could get a refund on my lifetime Plex pass after watching this service turn into another scam service.

I've used Plex for years and it's always been reliable and fairly easy to use. The update on Chromecast with Google TV has changed all that. Things that played smoothly before now constantly buffer and navigating the app itself is slow and unresponsive. I've avoided using alternatives like Jellyfin because this used to work but now it's time to start exploring other options.

Shithouse for accessing local media server since they started a streaming service. Videos crash out and hang, no stability, if you pause the video and open another app the video won't restart. Several times have had to reinstall the app to even browse.

can't stream my own content locally over wifi without an internet check. I paid for a lifetime subscription, and now it's worthless.

The new version sucks. You can no longer watch TV recordings in progress. It just doesn't work anymore.

since new UI update it feels slow and sluggish. can't jump automatically to next video anymore without losing connection. also missing some features, but I could possibly have gotten over that. the new way of fast forward is terrible also, please make it optional. but please sort the sluggishness and performance.

the latest version is absolutely pathetic in how slow it operates on my Google TV streamer 4K and how it takes forever to open menus and play back video and when it does play back the audio video is out of sync while none of these issues existed in the previous version

The app is unreliable and new items are barely picked up. You are better off using the website, it is easier and faster. And there is the added benefit that you have access to the management tools for your server. still relevant 6 years later...

What a disappointed with this app it freezes all the time when you're watching the TV series when you go to the next episode that freezes comes up with error message sometimes it remembers where you are when you last watched other times sits you back 3 or 4 episodes not happy at all waste of time and I pay for it as well

Can't rate it as doesn't work. Only plays 1/2 to 3/4 of a movie or recording then freezes. Doesn't let you restart from from where it began. Try to forward to where you were and it freezes so impossible to watch any thing. TV guide does not work you try to move through it and it either crashes or sends you back to the top left. It no longer records but shows it in the guide as recording. Can't remove recoding as says errors. The list of issues is massive and not good for a paid application.

Interface is slower than the previous version. Audio randomly cuts out for half a second during playback. Randomly whole screen colors gets distorted for also half a second. Trailers before movie have no sound.

The new update has a beautiful UI but cripples my 3 year old Android TV to a state of uselessness with Plex. Reverted to an older version until I take the time to move to Jellyfin. 12 years user. 7 years Plex pass.

Have used Plex for years. Recently stopped working. Tried with the latest server and Android app, still does not work. It gets stuck on loading when playing a movie.

I don't understand the direction of Plex. First an app change no one asked for, rising prices on lifetime subscription instead of just pulling it, and I've not seen any indication anywhere where Plex has pledged support for hosters, the very people who helped build your company. In the age of AI, if Plex won't address this, there really isn't much of of future as someone else will eventually come along.

Plex has lost sight of its purpose. I run my own media server on my own LAN, yet the app takes ages to load, constantly buffers, and sometimes won't even recognise or play my own files. Updates keep breaking basic functionality. How can Plex justify over $1,000 AUD for a lifetime subscription when local playback barely works? Most of us just want a reliable way to organise, watch and share our own media. Stop adding unnecessary features and fix the fundamentals!

Just updated the app. I can't find the remote the app to my Google tv. I can't find the add to queue or play next for the one I'm playing or casting to the tv

New interface SUXX, Not intuitive like the old one, need to go through multiple menus just to change a setting. Have uninstalled from all my tv's and am going to sideload the old version. Lifetime plex user and have been using for many years. Up until recently I did think it was the best media management and media playback solution for personal media. The latest update feels like something vibe coded and not tested. On a Google Chromecast starting a video now takes 30 seconds. Seeking back forward takes 5 seconds. Sometimes when I leave the video seems like it's playing. I've had to reboot the device a few times because going back into Plex becomes completely broken.

New update is a hot mess. The UI changes suck. It doesn't remember when the last watched show in a tv series. You can easily skip to the tv episode.

Good section but occasional buffering and although the shows are free to watch there are -too many ads and - some ads run far to long. Hard to enjoy the entertainment with these issues so I'm finished with Plex and will delete it. Tubi is much better in every way than Plex!!

Plex should change their company motto to "Less user friendly with every update." This new version is a downgrade in every way imaginable. Everything is slower and clunkier. Everything is zoomed in so less fits on the screen at once. Choosing subtitles from a portrait sized window, really? Did nobody test this version before release? Please let me go back to the last version where everything worked and navigation was fast and reliable.

Plex is evolving... backwards: bad UX + bad performance | the logic is not clear. each update brings a worst UX than the previous, and a slower client with more clicks required to do what before you could do with just a couple. After +10 years of using plex, i'm moving to jellyfin: fast server with great FE clients like wholphin and findroid the end of an era... bye bye plex, this time was you, not me.

Asked for support to help me recover the account, but to no avail.... In fact, I've asked for support on three different occasions. Guess how many times they actually supported me. That's right, you guessed it, ZERO. AND THUS, you find the true value of this app and the time you need to devote to it. EVEN AT BEST, you need to purchase additional and specific hardware, software, AND subscription to TRULY RECORD. CUZ THIS APP, CANT RECORD NOTHING.... ON ITS OWN. do your research.

Since update, app is buffering FTA TV in Australia within same home network. Cache and data cleared. Also this app on Samsung tablet and Sony TV (Google TV) does not support DVBT Teletext for subtitles, but ok on the PC desktop app although usually considerably out of sync. Makes FTA exruciatingly impossible to watch. Maybe a setting needs tweaking.

Quality for download is only hi med low without explanations. - downloads with just places everything flat without movie series structure - lag. It's extremely laggy compared to old. If I had rated the Plex app on google tv before now it would have been a solid 4.. but now it's a 1 this user interface is slow and back button just doesn't work well anymore it's like they are gearing it to the apple side of things more. They took menu options away and it's just not great anymore I hope they continue to work on it and fix it up, this was an app that did not need to be changed this drastically. I can figure how to get/sideload the old version I will be doing so.

I was a user of Plex since about 2012. Server setup was easy, FREE and worked well. Accessing the server was also very simple, straight forward, and FREE. You made money off us with your ads, but it was our work and dedication spreading the word that made you grow. Now, I will never recommend you again to anyone. Anyone reading this, use Jellyfin NOW if you are starting out. Don't touch this company. They have taken our work and now expect US to pay for it. Not going to happen. Not 1 dime Plex!

I used to love this app for streaming from my own server. this update removed ever feature I liked.

Super shiny and lagging as hell. Rather have the old crashing app on my Google TV than the new slow responsive one.

I got rid of the latest version and reinstalled my old version, The latest version don't work properly, is unstable and does not play all my media and is buggy. I now use jellyfin and use plax as backup.

Marvelous Entertainment

Was mostly fine, except now I can't download anything from my server to my phone. When I try, the download button is in the exact same location as my phone's navigation bar. So trying to press download results in either pressing back, home, or recent apps. This was never an issue before, I don't know why they changed it. PiP broke a few updates ago too. I'll give a better review if it ever gets fixed.

The core purpose of the app is to play things from my home server. Features keep getting added that seem to hide that capability. I'm really getting worn out with it.

Most recent updates made the app unusable. The UI is incredibly slow and clunky, load times increased, the button to skip to the next episode was removed, the list goes on. Half the time when I turn the TV back on and load the app it automatically starts playing whatever was on when I turned the TV off, except you can't exit out of what's playing. None of the buttons work and you're forced to restart the device to get it to work again. Zero stars if I could.

The new Plex interface on my Chromecasts has a long way to go. Extra steps to watch shows in my library, almost unusable watchlist feature. This is really disappointing.

App is horrendous. Whoever made the decision to launch the new app on my chromecast TV, Roku, and phone MADE A TERRIBLE DECISION. Needs rolled back. Things that are messed up (that only come to mind): slow UI, terrible to traverse menus (for things like subtitles and skip intro - the latter which I can't get to quick enough now for my shows), back rewind or going back during a show/movie takes FOREVER to load despite it being local media, prerolls just don't work anymore. THE LIST GOES ON.

the plex server is great and I have enjoyed it for many years Server is worth more stars but client is where 2 comes from. the client over that last year has devolved to utter garbage. as I look at the latest interface, I will no longer recommend Plex. I am going to have to look at current alternatives.
