would give zero stars if I could. Absolutely useless in Penang Malaysia. Basic street names are not even there in many cases. It cannot seem to identify simple landmarks. My location totally incorrect as well.Suggested routes are terrible.

After using this for over a year I can safely say it records my rides accurately, complete with all the info I need for performance monitoring. The live map is almost perfect. Connection to Garmin edge devices is brilliant. Planning routes is hard work , as the round trip mode is a nightmare as it would rather go backwards for miles in the wrong direction than follow a logical route forward for 400m. It also adds in unnecessary loops for no reason. Using saved routes for navigation is great tho.

Are all the BS updates better? I think it depends on your use case. As a hiker, and non-European one, the new new look of Collections and especially route maps is worse. Way too cluttered and too much micro-scrolling to see pertinent information. the new Save route and/or download offline workflow is utterly broken. Cyclist who plan routes and then navigate might enjoy the new updates more as I think that has been BS focus. PS. the bot replies here are slap to face of long time users

Cool app to plan hikes and bike rides in nature.

Very useful for cycling routes - you do need the premium subscription. 5 stars mostly because, when you sign up for a 7 day premium trial, the app prompts you to set up a reminder before the trial ends and cancelling is really simple via the Google play store.

Developers not helpful. Horrible bloatware. Use ridewithgps and googlemaps. Do not use for touring!Rubbish at upgrading routes mid activity in garmin. You can't load in large routes or adjust them. It always get some server interruption error on routes that work flawlessly on ridewithgps. It's a complete space hog on garmin devices. The routing in north America is absolutely pathetic, it will always send you through roads/bridges that have been down for Years. I paid for this app way to long.

After a long absence and reinstalling this app and during the initial sign in and walkthrough the app tries to fool me into a subscription or free trial with no other option to just try the app. I need to check my googleplay billing after to confirm if i accidentally signed up. This is a very very unethical approach. No trust right from the start.

I've used Komoot for a while. It would be an awesome app but the user experience is really awkward and difficult, the UX is horrendous. In order to plan a bike route, you have to take a fairly complex and lengthy sequence of actions (for whatever reason, the Home screen and most of the interface is useless) and half the time it bugs out and you need to restart the app. Nevermind I had paid for the map once, it constantly prompts me to buy a subscription, very annoying.

mixed feelings. good maps, lots of features available even as a free user BUT a lot of the time there is an issue with the route for me, sometimes part of it isnt a path at all, last time it was a route through alotments and the gate was locked. and the other day it took me to the station but there was a fence and i had to loop around and missed my train. after that i got annoyed and deleted it...

Offline only comes with a payment. Imagine lying for installs. No "Free region" as claimed in this app description. a "free trial" though. AVOID!!!

Not only was a shown a route that did not exist it is also IMPOSSIBLE i cancel a subscription on here. I signed up for a free trial and now I am being charged for an app I do not like.

Completely useless. It doesn't allow me to create routes via the roads that are the sole access to the town and it doesn't let me override that either.

Great suggestions, my go-to to find inspiration or to make a route. Could do without the constant ad for a subscription though.

I was using the free version, which worked reliably until three weeks ago. Since then, the app consistently freezes just a few minutes after launching—likely due to a recent update. Frustrated by these ongoing performance issues, I have uninstalled it.

the app targets hiking, but it's impossible to edit routes when offline. I have had other issues with the app as well, but this is a deal breaker. hiking in remote regions and I got completely screwed trying to plan/adjust my routes without regular phone reception.

"Try premium for a week, we will notify you before your trial ends" I get an email they took 5 euro for my paypal. I open the komoot app and there comes the notification. 10/10 classic subscription scam. give my money back please 🤗

App has gained some shady stuff. It recorded my 4h hike for 4 days straight without displaying a single notification about it outside an app or in it! I accidently found out when my battery started to drain faster than usual.

I allready bought the app. It was ststed lifetime, now when i opened app after some time I was greeted with subscription. I hate money grabbing companies, I will never use this app again, there are alternatives you know...

You have to pay monthly or yearly for "premium" in order to access any of the useful stuff. I'm so tired of being bamboozled like this. Just make it a one-time payment of like $15 for the app, don't get greedy demanding over $50 per year.

Horrible app, no human feedback about routes or ride rating. So no human feedback whatsoever. Rely totally on an algorithmic interpretation on whether a route is good or not. Not a good idea for the industry to go down.

Route planning is incredibly hard on mobile, as it defaults to adding waypoints, instead of adding points to the back of the route. It always comes up with some super complicated connection of all the dots instead of just following the order that they're being created

I used to think this app was fairly decent. Now there's no undo button when plotting a manual route. This makes the app essentially useless. So the lowest rating is all I can justify when this is the only feature I find useful.

I am disappointed by owner business practices. A few months ago I paid for a one time purchase license, not time restricted, for a COMPLETE, whole world map. Now I see that my maps are stripped of the "tourist layer" - no hiking trails - so maps have no worth for me now. Of course I can pay extra for this layer, but it was already included in my previous transaction. So I'm not satisfied with this product. There are plenty of other map providers.

Unusable without account, without it being really necessary for the purpose of the app. App aggressively collects data. Data collection is the only objective of the app. Even their website refuses to show you essentially ANYTHING without an account, no way types and surfaces, no pictures. Every click you make just leads you to a sign up page. Absolutely ridiculous and aggressive! After reading other reviews I totally get it...app was fine for a while and now the enshitification phase starts.

Really good app, better than all trails, it runs a little behind in the USA though but now has caught up. The biggest problem with this app is the map place names. If your eyesight isn't the best wether your old or have sweat in them... Noatter how hard you try you can't zoom into the place names on the map.... You see something, you can't read it (ie town name, street name) you can't zoom in to make it bigger. Yes the map zooms in but the writing or name of place stays the same size. Horrible

GPT suggested this app for quick hike planning. The app begged for money a lot, and after I managed to get a free trial hike with it, it led me to a closed gate leading to private territory. The route continued on, but I didn't dare to climb the barbed wire. Uninstalled it.

I’ve been using this app for many years to plan routes, and I used to find it extremely useful. Unfortunately, with the latest updates, it has become much more difficult to use. When planning a round trip, the waypoints are often routed in the wrong direction, so you have to manually make sure they are arranged in the correct order. This makes route planning much more frustrating and time-consuming than it used to be.

i received unwanted notifications. i accidentally clicked one. then it said "free trail activated". i had to delete the account to prevent financial harm

Komoot used to be a great app, but my wife ended up with an expensive weekly subscription she never intended to sign up for. In just two months, we paid more than my entire annual subscription costs! Support never responded to our complaint. This feels like a complete rip-off! The app has also become unnecessarily complicated, requiring far too many clicks. Looking cool seems more important than usability. I'm considering cancelling my subscription and looking for alternatives.

You have to go a long way into the sign up process before it advises you need a paid plan to use. I am not against apps being backed by plans that is how they survive, I am however against this being hidden till late in the process.

Nobody thinks about their privacy!! These developers want your real email and data. By checking their shady trackers, we noticed that your data will be sent to data brokers. No wonder they ask something of information you. Luckily, I’m using Pi-hole, email forwarding, and a VPN, so they are not able to track me. PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS. STOP GIVING THEM YOUR REAL PERSONAL DATA.

The mapping and route planning on this just gets worse and worse. Takes you down impassable tracks which aren't bridleways when it could route you down advertised cycle routes or bridleways. Takes you up a 20% footpath you can't even walk up. Then it'll take you on a 70mph dual carriageway with no pavement. subscription cancelled !!!!

Petty but... Frustrating Update! When exiting a route I select “Don’t save”. When I next choose Plan a new route, I’m asked again about the unfinished route and select “Start new”. Yet the next time I plan a route, I’m asked for a third time whether I want to resume the same discarded route. “Don’t save” and “Start new” should actually discard it.

It's a great app for navigating but I have the full world version and every time I open it or select an option I am nagged to death about paying more money. I don't need anything else. These constant ads ruin the experience. And also, when I finish a ride I want that to be it - finished. No uploading, no pictures, no reviews - just finish and go away app. One star because of the incessant ads.

I've had this for years and right now it's brilliant, it might be because I'm using it more and finding it does more useful things, addition of OS maps layer, improved UI and overall functionality like pinching the elevation bar and it zooming in on the relevant part of the map, I love being able to find a bunch of variants of a ride close to anywhere I'm camping. In the early days of use it redirected me fully on rides when I had to deviate a little and seemed a bit clunky, it's great now :)

some of the routes for road cycling are questionable, into dead ends, down one way streets, onto dual carriageways. need to check your route thoroughly when planning.

The app sells itself as compatible with all devices. "With all your favourite devices". My device in a Xiaomi Watch, which apparently isn't compatible. But that's my favourite device, since it's my only one, I suppose 😅

I've used komoot since 13 years now and have been a premium user for a while now, I hate those new "gamification" updates and I don't want to see any advertising like "hello fresh" when I am paying 60€/year for your service! Please stick to your core identity and don't change this app. @bending spoons: Please don't do the same to this app like to Evernote, I really fear that I have to look for an alternative in the near future :(

Distance and elevation keep reverting back to metric from Imperial UK. I downloaded the Durham area and it still bugs me to go premium, it's relentless. I'll try another app. you say update the app? I just downloaded from the playstore

app has went downhill from when I first downloaded it 2 years ago, it use to be so simple to search a trail to hike and save it and use it, but now anytime I search for a hike it won't even allow me to click on it, I can see the hike in the search bar but can't do anything with it, so basically renders the app useless for me now

I am perfectly happy with the information and instructions that Komoot shows on my Galaxy Watch5. However even with the maximum fontsize setting the green font is not easily readable. White or yellow would be fine. (In the Watch5 vision enhancements settings high contrast fonts can be set. That helps! Only the direction arrows still have little contrast against the black background). Green against a black background is not very handy in trekking conditions.

Komoot is simply the best cycle route planner for western Europe.

Eigentlich eine gute App aber irgendwie scheint da zu viel Geld vorhanden zu sein, da jedes mal wenn die App geöffnet wird funktionen anders heissen, das Layout anderst ist. Leider schleicht sich mit jeder dieser Anpassung wieder einige Fehler ein, das die Hauptfunktion, nämlich as Routen planen, nicht richtig funktioniert. Z.B. verschiebt es neu den Endpunkt obwohl dieser als Wegpunkt angelegt wird... mit workarounds ist aich as in Griff zu kriegen. Fazit: keine Weiterempfehlung.

creating bike routes in this app is such a pain

I used to like this app but it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to make a route on the app versus the web version now. It keeps auto choosing which direction to make the round trip, auto filling waypoints backward on the route, auto closing the loop before you have finished adding waypoints, adding uturns all over the place, reversing the way points, etc etc etc. What did you do to it? It's so frustrating to use now.

Unable to create account, just keeps telling me to enter existing password but no option on app to create, frustration with something so simple. App show dated Sep 26 and creat account is just dead. Tried again using email sign up method, then requested I reset my password, so I reset then took me to a page that asked me to change password then took me to page where again it asked me to log in ..... I am amazed people can use this app ...... deleting app now, my google navigator is plug n play.

Ruined by aggressive marketing. I no longer enjoy using this app and would not recommend it, unless you plan to fully subscribe. Every second click is to dismiss a banner trying to get you to upgrade. I've paid for lifetime world maps, and thats all I need. Komoot I don't understand your logic. I found Komoot complicated and, overwhelming to use. There is a lot of information on the screen, which made planning and following the actual route less straightforward than I expected. The route initially suggested around 45 minutes, but it took us closer to two hours. Some of that was probably due to getting lost a few times, but having spoken to an experienced cyclist who knows the route, they also said it was much closer to two hours than 45 minutes. Unverschämt Teuer, nur um Ebenen wie Satellit usw. zu bekommen. Einzige Möglichkeit: Jahresabo. Selbst mit Kartenpaket 30€ kein alleiniger Betrieb möglich. Parallel muss deswegen Google Maps benutzt werden. Navigation ist im Vergleich zu Google Maps viel zu leise.

Too much promotion after company change! I DO NOT need Premium. I already have the world pack. Yet I see a full-screen ad every day (the official response is definitely wrong; I see full-screen Premium ads repeatedly) and banners here and there. Map download feature is also unstable. A download in progress stops by itself.

Bonne application dans l'ensemble. On regrette l'orgie de points d'intérêts créés par la communauté, on s'y perd (la plupart sont sans intérêt). D'autant plus qu'en mode randonnée, les POI pour les cyclistes sont suggérés. Finalement ce qui me tracasse le plus : les trackers (4) Google, et notamment Facebook Analytics : l'un des pires ! Un trop grand nombre de permissions demandés (38). Je me sépare donc de l'application.

Exact same as Garmin Connect. I'm trying to Charter course for a walk to see how long it's going to take and how long the walk is but the information can't be accurate as the app wants to generate random paths to take. to fix this I need to put a waypoint on every intersection rather only at my turns. by doing this I don't have a waypoints to do a round trip due to limitations

Always trys to sell you lots of stuff that you don't need when you bought the world map. Trails and the navigation tools are very good though.

I bought the world map pack, but I still getting popups with premuim subscription every other time i open the app. Not Nice.

ihave downloaded the app and bought the world map. i tried to download offline a hike route for my future trip in europe, to practice, because i don't want to get stuck ladt minute. it's been an hour now and i am not able to do it, and i am a tecky person... it's a pain.

Not as good at it used to be. The map is uglier, planning is more complicated, and so is using it on the move. Edit: I'll give an example: when planning the route, if i click on the waypoint, i have to scroll the bar containing "move, customize" to get to the delete option. Let's be real, how often is "customize" used? It would make more sense if i didn't have to swipe to find the delete option. At least now it seems that the random auto reordering of the waypoints is fixed.

More complicated, less features post update. Elevation? Extra click. Incline %? Extra swipe, not visible at the same time as time stamp. Waypoints? Extra swipe + click. Surface/way type? No slider. Differentiation between fitness + experience in difficulty level? Gone. That one's the worst as I can no longer use it to assess if I can do the route, so I'm forced to go in blind, potentially making it much more dangerous than before for no reason. After 7 years I'm now looking into alternatives.

Thoroughly broken and useless. I can't unlock my free region, when searching for it on the app, it doesn't exist. However when searching for it on the website, it claims that I already have it unlocked. But then on my "unlocked regions list" it's nowhere to be found. Then I am promoted to pay for the subscription. The account verification fails everytime, as Google Auth fails to initialize. The only thing that always works flawlessly is the premium subscription full screen prompt, obviously.

Mal eben unterwegs die route neu planen ist völlig umständlich. viele Buttons sind deutlichzu klein, die ganze Menüführung null intuitiv. das war Mal viel besser, ich versteh nicht, was da schief gegangen ist seither. in diesem Zustand motiviert die App nicht zum Geld ausgeben

Not always easy to find your current location when looking for a starting point. Once you do find your chosen route it's fine. I should point out that the cost is a little off-putting...

Way too expensive for what it offers in the premium tier. I'm also unable to download GPX files without it so it's pretty much useless.

App wouldn't work when we were in the Germany. I applied for free subscription but it never confirmed in the app. A week later I found out I was subscribed and had to pay a fee.

Ich hab vor Jahren das Kartenpaket gekauft und bin damit glücklich. Bessere Wege als in Google Maps. Jetzt werde ich dennoch ständig damit bombardiert, doch bitte Premium zu abonnieren. Das möchte ich nicht, schon gar nicht wenn ich mitten im Wald navigiere. Die falsche Richtungserkennung ist viel zu sensitiv und nervt schnell. Auch will ich nicht jede Tour am Ende speichern, ich muss aber drei oder vier Screens durchklicken. Ich will von A nach B kommen, ohne Schnickschnack über schöne Wege.

Honestly, Komoot has changed our lifes. We've been using Komoot for years, it is our go to walking app. The confidence it has given us to walk wherever we land has been tremendous. With Komoot we've discovered places we otherwise wouldn't have. Thank you Komoot.

What happened to Komoot? it was so intuitive and easy (5***)? now I don't know how to easily and quickly adjust a route 😭 - which makes it completely ineffective for me. it was my go to app for cycling and walking even when I'm in a city, over Google maps, as it offered me way more scenic and quite and green routes. Now I might as well have used Google Maps that I really only want to use for transit (public transport etc). The 3* is because I've faith it'll improve again

Komoot used to be a wonderful app, easy to use and accurate. However using it has become increasingly frustrating. Planning a simple route has become almost impossible. Navigation in the app is illogical, crashes are frequent and everything is pervaded with annoying marketing trying to push you to premium membership. Almost any other outdoor navigation app is better.
