The system is a bit lacking in help. You easily could for example tell the user to simply scan the second QR code on their computer screen - which would then automatically start this app. (Just starting this app seems to lead to failure every time!)

if you fail to create an ID after the scan with the message "we were not able to confirm your identity!" and restart, it just keeps going back to the "we were not able to confirm your identity!" screen in a loop. even if you refresh the site and uninstall and reinstall the app.

Good grief, what a nightmare this is.

This is a absolute nightmare. Have you seen the movie "Brazil"? Well this is that movie on crack. I've already got a GOV.UK login and linking it via a mysterious and "where do the hell do you find it?" QR code is the first hurdle you fall down on. What the hell is this rubbish and whoever came up with this joke of an app needs to be given their P45 and shown the door.

Ridiculously complicated. I can't imagine how many people give up before finishing.

note. if something is not working, re install this app by following the required link on the relevant gov service page.

giving government more info is always a BAD idea. Being forced to use this is dreadful. You can't trust them with your washing up, never mind your full ID

Total garbage. Couldn't get it to match ID. Clearly oversensitive to correct exposure, lighting and alignment. Now I've got to waste time and money travelling miles away to a Post Office. Needs a major rethink.

had to try about 15 times for this to work, it has glitches and wouldn't work on the phone. managed to make it work by using a laptop and someone else's phone in the end. abysmal service.

It is an absolute nightmare. Spent 2 hours on it yesterday and could not get it to work. There is no proper support to help you through it. It is the worst possible service I have ever come across. and the thought that if I don't figure it out today I get a horrendous fine is so stressful. What a dreadful experience. I would give it no stars whatsoever

It's a bit tricky to photograph my passport page, but it's a good security check.

I have had a dreadful experience with this app to open a personal tax account. There is a system fault as it does not recognise letters from other alphabets. Hence, I am unable to get pass the passport check because one letter changes into something else when the passport is scanned. I have called hmrc helpline several times but no one can help. The system claims that I have entered incorrect information when I have not. I remain unable to use any of the digital government apps.

Ridiculous. App requires "link to gov.uk". If you opt for option just "opened the app" (im guessing what 99% of users actually do)..it dumps you back to gov.uk home page. no clues where or how to find the relevant page. if you search for linking app to gov.uk, pages and pages of guidance.. but no actual link to the page to actually do it!! Who designs and writes this stuff? Does the word "user test" no longer feature in a new technology job requirement in government anymore???

Scan a QR code. Its somewhere. Good luck finding it, oh you may need to scan a second QR code too. Couldn't login.

What an absolute nightmare trying to verify identification. I just wish you could speak to someone rather than this website rubbish and password sign in rubbish . HMRC pay someone a proper wage to answer a phone .

why make it so difficult to get money out of HMRC. You have all my information so jumping through soany hoops is pure data mining.

Needed to verify my ID to get a tax refund. Process was going well until it got to the facial scan section, where after it finished scanning it just stopped completely. Tried again, same result. For an official government app, this just isn't good enough.

apparently none of my government id proves who I am so I cant access my details!

useless app. Took me 8 tries to verify my identity when gateway ID and password used to be enough. Still timed out anyway due to "inactivity" so had to start all over again.

ts is buns bro do you guys actually know how to do anything???? It keeps tryna get me to pay taxes for some reason then when I actually get to scanning the passport I get sent to the next page on my laptop and it TIMES OUT

Download the app, it resirect you to a website to lonk the app. Then is asking you if you started in a PC or Tablet, so my answer is no. Then it is telling you to download this app and link the app.

Installing was fine, but completely failed to scan the biometric in my passport. The link to an alternative method lead to a dead end: "sorry this method isn't available".

Total nightmare! I must have tried about 5 times before it got it to work. Scanned everything; done everything correct. But no joy whatsoever, with the same old message continually recurring: “We need to prove ur ID”. After so many attempts, I uninstalled both apps (HMRC was the other), cleaned the cookies, reinstalled them both and presto! it was suddenly working. I don’t know how or why, but it was certainly a lot of hassle. 1 star.

Absolute ball-ache, cant use the website without starting on the phone, cant start on the phone without starting on a computer...... ill do it at the Post Office tomorrow, this needs some serious improvement.......
