While I applaud them for being one of the few apps that offer Cantonese, they really need to refine their process for learning this language. It seems their only tool for teaching is memorization. It's very frustrating and unfortunately there are not a lot of choices out there to learn Cantonese.

The best apps

Latest update adds a weird colour transition for the background during lessons. Please allow us to disable this, it can get a bit distracting and makes looking at the words harder and uncomfortable.

I really liked this app initially, but I won't be renewing my subscription. I've learned a lot of vocabulary, but the app isn't really helpful for understanding languages. they offer phrases with no break down of what specific words mean. sometimes the vocab is presented too quickly/feels overwhelming. I also wish there was a way to take a test to see where you might land in the lessons. I appreciate the visuals and ability to choose topics, but it doesn't cater to diff learning types.

I'm enjoying the app so far. The way it's set up to learn is very effective. Only downside for me is how the words are written in romanized letters, and not the language I'm learning. So I have heard time understanding and remembering new words. I want to read 그는 and not GEUNEUN 😂 But it's an cool extra app to have.

The content is ok so far, but the free version is too limited, and the premium is too expensive. And in one of the premium ads, it claimed a 20% for the yearly subscription. Original price at 4500php, after discount: 4200php? That's not 20%! lol 20% off would be: 3600php. At least you are not a Math app!

I really enjoy using this but on my Fair phone 5 its ridiculously laggy. UI ignores clicks, timer hangs, multiplayer is impossible because clearly other players aren't lagging. reported it to the developer but no response.

I like how it repeats the words, but I hate of how for more time I need to have a subscription.

Good for reviewing although it tends to use many of the same words repeatedly and almost everyday. I'm on day 916 - I don't need to review my basic numbers and yes/no words anymore, let alone daily!

I had premium years ago and it was great. Returning to the app in 2026 and it's much worse. A significant amount of Arabic words will have random numbers in them. This wasn't the case before and it makes the app unusable for learning now. I don't understand how errors like that can even happen.

joke. u pay $20 for monthy subscription and they limit you to 5min per day of using the app unless you upgrade more to premium? what a scam!!

Good reinforcement and repetition to support learning.

Often this app made the lessons more difficult when I got the answers wrong. It seems less bad currently. But a common problem with language learning that adopts auto incorrect is that the auto incorrect is trained on deliberately wrong data. Almost all indigenous and Asian nations deliberately give the wrong or false information to foreigners. For example asking for a shop in Vietnam, staff encourage you to play in traffic in the opposite direction etc.

didn't get me fluent in irish but I learned a lot of vocab. get a textbook update: 800 or so words isn't really enough to speak a language. the app is great for vocab so why not more words.

Got this app ages ago, as one of the languages app available that featured native Portuguese. It's a great app to learn vocabulary! I came back to it now, and realised that native Portuguese is gone, replaced by Brazilian Portuguese - absolutely not the same 😞

can i learn free courses

One thing I miss, is that when doing lessons and you encounter an expression that needs no more practicing could be easily taken out from future sessions instead of having to open the learned words list and manually filter it out.

I registered at the highest available level of French knowledge, but the app dragged me through step by step, word by word, lesson by lesson, from the absolute beginner's level. It went on forever, and I still had not learned anything. So, I gave up.

I sprang for the lifetime membership for all avaliable languages during a sale, and it was a great decision. I use Drops to practice at least five languages regularly, as a supplement with other resources like online tutors, grammar books, and Pimsleur courses. It has a nice user interface and the simple lessons really seem to help with improving vocabulary and pronunciation. Note that Drops doesn't teach much about grammar or advanced topics. It teaches you useful words and short phrases.

It's one of the few apps I have found with an audio only mode and, while there are a lot of things I would change/ improve, I still find the audio mode useful so, until they have more audio competition, I won't complain too much. Is definitely more for beginner (maybe low intermediate) level though. generally works well too.

it's not exact. Its better than duo. I'm actually learning and retaining because of the format with drops. however, I am freshening up my second 'native' language. and boi. there R discrepancies. if u know anything about language u know each region/village has it own type of dialect. even in Eng. you are not going to master any language with an app. so it's frustrating when it comes to pronunciation and spelling from what I have known. I do appreciate the addition of the language a lot.

fun grouping of terms, bad execution on the Welsh alphabet, making the spelling exercises a bit useless. Edit, since this seems to get more reaction than the two bug reports I sent months ago: if you offer people the Welsh alphabet with the double letters, then you should also accept them - and maybe even mark the single letters as wrong.

just re-commenting to remove another star since the absolute bombardment of UPGRADE UPGRADE UPGRADE every few seconds of your super short time allotment. Definitely ruins any immersion one might garner. It doesn't help that this app is set up perfectly for someone, like me, to absolutely forget about its existence. The app locks me out after X amount of time, and with my adhd I struggle to keep focus as is. so, I guess I'll go focus on learning elsewhere. If you have ADHD, look elsewhere.

is actually a pretty good app! I'm learning some new word styat improve my vocabulary and yeah overall a good app!

Overall, the app is slick and enjoyable to use. However, it is quite overconfident in when I supposedly "mastered" a topic, even though I did not. It repeatedly suggests learning new words and topics instead of encouraging more repetition, even though I make mistakes. There should be additional controls for "I don't know", instead of encouraging guessing, to better align the apps understanding of my learning progress with the reality.

growing up my mom only taught me a little Tagalog she didn't know we would need it in the future. After using this app I understand what they are saying on Filipino videos but trying to pronounce the words is hard without someone or something to correct you that's the only flaw I see and doesn't show basics like teaching you case markers.

Honestly, one of the best apps for learning a language I have ever used. If I could give it ten stars, I would.

I like this app a lot, but there is one thing that doesn't make any sense. What are those "Let's see how you did" numbers? I don't care about them because they don't really mean anything. I'd rather see the number of correct vocabulary, listening comprehension, spelling, etc. answers. Other than that, it's one of my favorite language learning apps.

The app should display the learning path in a clearier version. Moreover, there's a few practical practices, and the exercises are not much varied.

I use it daily, and it is helpful, but... 1. It lags heavily and frequently during sessions for several seconds at a time, multiple times. The word collection and favoriting words is laggy, too. 2. They are too slow to correct errors. There are words I reported at least over a year ago, and they are still not corrected. I've tried contacting support about it, but they always ghost me. 3. I hate how the explore tab is no longer the homescreen. The explore tab as a homecreen makes more sense.

Solid way to focus on vocabulary, but when the picture for "Evening" showed two men holding hands under the moon, I knew they were doing more than just teaching a language. A simple picture of a moon would suffice. *update Sep 2026* -still unfairly representative of homosexual content -New update forces me to relearn old topics on the main progression mode and takes a long time to get through, even when I try to hide words I've seen. -Leaderboard league is fake, always someone 2 points ahead

Pretty good app but consistently uses innacurate ending particles and pronouns for user. It always assumes user is female and provides correspondingly incorrect grammer. For example it always uses female (คะ) instead of providing option for male user (ครบะ). It also uses female pronouns for everything. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice and learning makes perfect. I reached out to support but did not receive a reply. 😞

It's really visual, but the learning processes are horrible! It tries to teach me whole propositions without first teaching me the meaning of its words! No verb conjugation, I just have to guess how the grammar works!

I like how it works, with a few dislikes. Some of the phrases (Russian) used are too long ot too early. Words used in the phrase haven't been introduced, so its hard to learn/hear/memorize them because they're truncated in the exercise & there's not enough time to read & process before it loads the next one. Also, It starts with the alphabet & words are paired with a letter, but the word you're supposed to remember for that letter are never defined or pronounced & I'd get it wrong due to them

I like the concept and in general the app is good, unfortunately there are many errors in it. I gave the feedback but there is never a follow up. For example the day counter gives the wrong day. you can also not swipe back to a higher menu. It closes the app directly.

AI slop being added? several new words are clearly spoken by computer/Ai voices. disappointing as a user of several years and the 5 min timer still randomly stalls as of today Sep 2026. That defeats the idea of 'drops' when a session becomes 20 minutes

not much u can do with only 5 minutes a day, you'll be rushing too so good luck remembering anything after those 5 minutes. everything is locked after that time limit. also the handwriting thing is like really bad

Now I am able to learn Korean easily

This used to be good and a great place to practice languages not found on Duolingo etc. but now it is broken. Review dojo keeps making me practice only the first beginner words, topics are marked as complete either before all the words are learned, or just after they are learned but not practiced etc. It also lags a freezes a lot now. None of this used to be a problem but now it is almost unusable.

I've used a number of language learning apps and spent time actually in these countries practicing with native speakers. The method drops uses, attaching words to imagery and concepts instead of focussing on language translation, is the best I've found for learning vocabulary fast. It's simple, effective, comfortable, and practical. I also LOVE that I can select topics that are important to me. Duo taught me flodhäst (Hippo) before it taught me häst (horse). WHY would I need that? Drops is best.

I would rate it higher, but they keep bugging me to buy their "premium" package. If I buy anything, it will be a book, like a Mexican Spanish to English dicrionary. The lessons are good, but limit me to too few new words per session. Then, I have to wait 10 hours for the next one. I make progress, each day, though. 😇

great app, but after about 4 or 5 3-minute rounds the timer stops working. It just stops. it doesn't count down. sure that's great for learning but doesn't help with the Gamification. would be good if 3 minutes learning time is 3 minutes learning time.

Nice way to keep practicing and learning words and short sentences. To date only 2 errors found in the tasks...

As it was written before me, many times the time stops then goes fast forward. My internet connection doesn't matter, when in community dojo my timer starts 1:45 usually (sometimes even at 1:35) instead of 2:00. I gave feedback within the app, never ever got an answer back. If I don't switch off the listening, in community dojo sounds overlap making it impossible to hear them. I like that I have European Portuguese but even the topics are quite off sometimes...

Nice way to learn. Just wish I could skip levels in some languages. I want to practice a higher level of a language, so don't make me start from the very beginning. 2 years later: this app is great! This app has helped me quite a lot to learn new languages. The best imo as it connects both sound letters and images to the new words. Can get a little hard in terms of grammar and forming original sentences but is great otherwise.

Drops is a very good app to learn language with if you subscribe with them you won't regret the money. learning made easy. I will recommend it for any serious person that wants to learn fast.

wish it was possible to simply repeat the words more, and just listen to them again and again as needed. otherwise really nice and engaging!

Excellent app. Engaging while not too gamefied

Good language selection with pronunciations, with vocabulary separated by topic. It even has some languages I don't always see in language apps, like Cantonese and Ainu. However the recent updates have had extremely off-putting AI slop art that is genuinely unpleasant to look at, which sucks for such a visual app.

this is far and beyond the best way for me

Drops has been amazing because it has shown vocab and phrases with illustrations--in target language audio/text only--so I purchased a lifetime license. However, the app has been downgraded in a few ways: 1) Added "mic" support. 2) Removed ability to remove native translations. 3) Introduced explicit grammar instruction, and using translation. Edit: I've filled out the form a couple times, and there has been no change or response :(

fun, clear, simple lessons - I wish the creators could create a version that receives audio from the students, to evaluate students' ability to pronounce the words correctly

I like the app, is helping me learn a new language, and I like how it can be based on srss too. my issue is that is laggy, and the timer may stop for. a minute. that means a 5 minute lesson may turn into 10 to 15 minutes.

I used to love this app for Japanese but I don't like the changes over the years. The switching between kana and the alphabet is jarring and alot of times things aren't even translated after you get something wrong.

EDIT: Lag has improved, though I still get the "mastered topic" popup before I have leared all of the words. Aditionally, when I logged in today, I was confused because each picture had the English words under it, making it a translation exercise instead of a language aquisition exercise. That feature is fine, if people want it, but I should be able to turn it off in settings becuase I, personally, hate it. It makes the app unusable for me.

Great language app. I use it as a healthy habit for building vocabulary.

Using for Korean and I turned off romanization but the app is still showing it. They make updates then dont show how to use them. Shows me the same words over and over rather than giving me the words I havent seen in months

Cool idea but loading can be laggy + removed the 2 features that made it worthwhile. One of the few apps I could find for European Portuguese. It originally came with the ability to practice pronunciations (and it was usually accurate when my pronunciation was off). They also introduced learning basic grammar. However, they've removed both these features. I tried the language-specific app as well as the main app - both are now gone. If you only want to hear/read words, this app will be ok.

no evidence Drops has knowledge of learning and teaching e.g. no scaffolding, lists not culturally relevant, some early items very difficult for beginners. inconsistent romanisation makes it confusing. images and words very usa/western centric regardless of language learned. sometimes runs very slow. numbers for review change dramatically for no reason. lots of errors in word lists. review mode usually doesn't alert when all items done. each topic says I'm finished when one item still left.

It seemed like a great app to compliment Duolingo. I purchased premium only to find out that even most advanced level is SUPER BASIC! cancelled within 2 hours but The app gives NO REFUNDS. unacceptable! UPDATE: after contacting both Google play and Drops, I was promised a refund of the yearly subscription that I paid. Hope it arrives ;-)

When using the app pauses for a few seconds once about every 20-25 seconds, little frustrating wait for things to work again. Still an issue, nothing has been fixed related to this. July 22, nothing has been done regarding the app pausing, as it continues.

At first, I thought this would be a great learning app for my kids. However, parents be warned there is content not appropriate for young children. If you're learning as an adult, it is a nice method to learn vocabulary.

Too slow and doesn't let me start from a non basic level

weird order of units. I am an absolute Beginner in Russian and it gives me the lection "where is my phone" in order to pass the checkpoint, and this has already quite complex constructions. I like the way the app is built overall but I don't think it's good for learning a language

For me Tagalog has been difficult. This app is very different from other language apps and yet very effective with the combined showing you the word with a pictorial, matching, repetition, pronunciation, teaching us to spell the words, as I learn it gets easier to grasp new words and sentences etc. I am also learning Bisaya and that too is different from Tagalog so it can be a lot to digest.

I tried Tagalog, it starts good but then gets really wrong. Many English words repeated again and again, some of them are not even used in Tagalog, and some mistakes. I wouldn't recommend for Tagalog.

Solid app to do vocabulary work similar to flash cards, but expects you to memorize entire sentences meaning without having been taught any of the words in the sentence even in beginner lessons. This could easily get to being a 5, but currently I can't give it more than a 3. As it is, I don't think I'll ever be able to get to a point that I could begin speaking to someone using this app as it is now. It's excellent for building up vocabulary in general, but that's all.
