I lack faith that I can learn French, but with God's help I will speak fluently eventually.
Supply your name and email, then we'll tell you the cost
This course is accelerated with not a lot of specific practice for Grammer or vocabulary concepts. The concepts are taught, then the only practice is in sentence form. There is no single word or conjugation vocabulary review. You can repeat any particular lesson, but it is just the same lesson.
Much better than Duolingo (learning Dutch here). A great complement to any course you may be following.
the app is difficult to navigate. you end up clicking multiple times trying to locate certain features. a better home screen is needed with all of the options clearly showing and also a clear indicator of all the lessons you have already completed. also I am a B2 learner and most of this app is more suitable for beginners.
I liked the free lessons, the only issue is that 80% of it's locked. I cannot afford a subscription to get the full sections, I wanna properly learn, not just see a few phrases... I understand Babbel needs money to function but the app doesn't feel functional with most of it locked away...
over 500 hours on your app and when someone says something to me in Spanish I'm like a deer caught in head lights that says more about your app than me so disappointing
Not many languages to choose from
The initial placement test doesn't work - all voice prompts are just blank. Also requires AI access to your voice recordings to do any lessons.
I tried to complete a language test and all the listening questions just had several blank answers with no text. I don't know if this is a recent bug, but if I can't start lessons at the right level, I'm not going to use this app further. Deleted on the same day I downloaded it.
I like it BUT I want to learn Brazilian Portuguese and I still did not understand whether the app is teaching me Portuguese or Brazilian portuguese and I don't find an option for that 🙈. I also miss a list of verbs with conjugaisons.
YOU HAVE TO "PAY" Which is "NOT"🚫EVEN "MENTIONED" Until "AFTER" YOU ACTUALLY "SIGN UP!!" It's "A Croc!!"
this doesn't work on my android phone
Updating my review again. I just spent two weeks in an intensive immersive French learning experience, and unfortunately, it highlighted a lot of babbels flaws. 1) Babbel needs to provide a list of words, not phrases. 2) Many phrases are not translated precisely, so it messes up my understanding. 3) Babbel should provide easy access to their grammar explanations (ALL OF THEM!). 3) Babbel is not ideal for learning a language. some basics, fine, but to learn you need to go and speak.

cost money monthly or yearly
Very helpful for trip to italy. Got us out of bad situation when lost.
cumbersome, intermittent access
I tried to report a crash problem on my iPad but no customer support service, they asked me to go to my profile and search for support chat but there was nothing there; From the Babbel app: Open the Babbel app, tap on the profile icon, and then tap Support Chat
it didn't have the language I wanted which was Korean. and it didn't have very many languages.
Over charged on my subscription!!!!
Starts at too high of a level even at beginner mode. Waste of money. Lessons start with ridiculous words like "internship". I am sure that will come in handy ...not. Very dissatisfied and can't believe they are touted as a great app....probably all fake reviews. I want my money back. Reply to reply...not helpful, and doubtful.
poor options for vocabulary
excellent app. I have moved from Duolingo where I learn heaps but struggled with grammar and holding a conversation. Babbel has really pulled my learning together and I'm excited to learn more
I purchased Spanish lifetime plan. Lifetime means 1 year then they will cancel your plan and erase you account. Don't waste and risk your money.
Italian
add Japanese NOW.(it's weird for me to onestar something just because it doesn't have a feature...BUT THIS IS A LANGUAGE LEARNING APP IT SHOULD HAVE JAPANESE)EDIT:OH MY GOD THEY ACTUALLY SAW IT-
this app sucks it never taught me anything I've learned more Spanish better in real world conversations than this app. support also sucks I told support to cancel my next 6 months of subscription but they never went ahead and did it. so I basically got robbed of $80 on my credit card when I never even consented to it. DO NOT USE THIS APP THERE ARE BETTER PLATFORMS OUT THERE LIKE DUOLINGO!!!
the auto renewal hit that I could've sworn i canceled. the day it hit i asked for a refund and they refused. it was an annual renewal fee. I asked to atleast only charge me for one month then. they still refused. USE A DIFFERENT APP
add Arabic language please
It would be great to practice both sides of the guided conversations in the practice area!
non c'è niente di male nel chiedere un upgrade alla versione premium, ma obbligare una persona a pagare dopo appena una "lezione" striminzita di 10 minuti è esagerato! dovreste prima dare del valore, solo dopo chiedere soldi, altrimenti perché mai dovrei pagare se non date nemmeno la possibilità di provare per un periodo limitato? pessimo.
👌👌👑👑👑😀😀😀
I have been using this app for 3 years and I learned English, But I just know basic and intermediate English so I don't know how I can improve to a better level. (I did almost all the courses) by the way I recommend this app because you will be speaking English quickly.
very bad app keeps crashing
I originally speak Russian and don't have this options.
Not bad, but could definitely improve. App itself works fine, but methods of teaching are not superb. Have been learning Norwegian with it for three years. App has zero listening skills in the speaking/pronunciation section. Also, the Norwegian course seems identical to any free app. Norwegian might not be a common course, but Babbel needs to improve it for real life conversation. Other courses in the app have more perks, such as the conversation section. This app needs a little help!

Loved it, bought lifetime access, now voice recognition is barely usable anymore. In pronunciation exercises the voice recognition almost stopped working a few weeks back. Doesn't detect anymore when I'm talking. Seems I'm not the only one with this issue, tried all suggested solutions, wiping cache, reinstalling, fixing permission. Barely better. It became a pain to do a lesson or revision.
Only teaches you 3 words before you have to pay for the monthly subscription to continue.
I really enjoyed the first lesson and was excited to continue, then was disappointed that there is no way to continue for free, as well as there being no one month subscription option. if I was able to I would continue using this app but I am just unable to give money without trying something at the moment
I am not happy with how it tries to teach you pronouns adjectives and these things I do not learn this way I need conversation and repetition
love the app but OH MY GOD at least half of the time it doesn't recognize what I said correctly. it's SO frustrating. I don't have this problem with the Duolingo app.
Generally okay but outclassed by more recent apps. Speech recognition sometimes fails to recognise even native french speakers, which makes it incredibly frustrating. It's the most important feature for people who actually want to speak the language they're learning, and it's not good enough.
not many languages r available
I'm using this app to learn Dutch from scratch. I don't like the methodology. Sentences are too complex for someone that is starting and the explanation is not clear at all. It feels like there is no logic. I used it in the past to improve my Spanish and it was better (I was B1 already). But with this experience I would not recommend it at all
Doesn't even have Chinese sigh
This app jumps around to harder and harder levels without enough practice options. If you want any repetition, your options are redoing old exercises and very brief and insufficient daily exercises. Although the grammar explanations are helpful, there's no good way of going back to review them that's available for all languages. I made the mistake of buying the lifetime option based on a friend's suggestion and really wish I hadn't. I definitely get more out of Duolingo and workbooks.
Better than some language apps from what I see of the interface and initial questions/answers, gives explanations, breaks down pronunciation and helps you to use the words in multiple contexts. Alas cannot give a more thorough review, as anything of use is behind a very expensive paid subscription. £192 PER YEAR for an app that uses this same basic flashcard model as multiple others is not justifiable, so I must uninstall. Sorry.
add Japanese please
they would explain how the words combined if the vocabulary is compounded
Regret buying lifetime Brazilian subscription over 2 years ago. No AI conversation, Babbel Speak. Babbel's teaching platform provides standard pronunciation feedback through basic speech recognition but its dedicated adaptive AI dialogue is limited to select other languages. AI is available on many other on-line language courses such as Duolingo and Google Translate; also no podcasts and they have not introduced any major content overhauls or significant new features over the last few years.
As older student found this app difficult to navigate. Difficult to find what I want and wish I had tried it first before paying. I would not have purchased it.
They constantly reset my streak to zero. They have the most inconvenient rules for resetting it. All other language apps don't do it and I have a 500-day continuous streak in other apps. But in Bebel they reset my streak to zero for the third time already. I will stop using it. It's an unfriendly application.
Generally not worth it. The app refuses to test you into anything above A2 cause they know the beginner section is the only valuable part of the course. The intermediate section is pretty bad and they don't even offer advanced. Of course the app is designed to get you to invest in the year subscription but then you have no investment return. Overall there are much better and cheaper ways to learn Spanish.
It's very well organized and, in addition to teaching vocabulary, it also shows you how to use it in a practical way. Very productive for learning. Great work, Creators! It would be an amazing application if it would be possible to add in the practice section a function to select all vocabulary words (in one step instead of marking them one by one), create collections, and review them all (not just listen to them), like a "Review all" button. Thank you for a great resource ❤️
the app was very good when I first opened it but unfortunately I was allowed one lesson before it told me I needed to subscribe and pay money to continue this frustrated me alot and delayed me from my language learning, if you don't want to pay I don't recommend.
no Arabic language unfortunately
I don't enjoy how it gives you a blank box and sometimes expects more than one word to be written. The interface is bland and my path unclear and stifled, teaching few words each lesson and simply repeating them - at times adding an ending to a word outside where you type so you only ever use the form of the word they taught you.
what do you mean I gotta pay money to go to lesson 2??? you money hungry greedy leeches. If I could rate a 0 I would
Scam company. I bought all languages courses for over $300 but can't access them due to log in issues. informed Babbel team but no response or help resolving this issue. Stay away from this Scammer!!!
This app works well for the most part, my main gripe is that it can feel a bit slow
this app is amazing! the lessons are not too difficult but you still advance quickly, there are also lots of practicing options besides the lessons like podcasts, flashcards, and writing lessons! I have been using for a while now and highly recommend!
Hard to use and log in to.
Can't believe they fixed the microphone/speaking issue on GrapheneOS! Kudos!
1 free lesson is abysmal, especially when so many other apps are free. I'm giving it a miss.
Very limited options for practicing words. One would think an app should be the best for it, but no, the authors decided that you can spend no more than a few minutes a day before they block you out of practicing learned words and make you go through a new lesson where they want you to memorize random long phrases regardless of your current skill level. A good way to learn new words is learning short simple phrases, but the app fails you there as well. Examples are long and unmemorizeable.
I use three different applications to learn Spanish. This is by far the worst one. You can pronounce words perfectly and the application won't accept it. I live in Spain, I'm learning durectly from the source. Fix your app.
I already subscribed to the yearly plan automatically and once i uploaded the app and unsubscribed from the plan so it wont subscribe next year why now the application says i need to subscribe again ? Help
even with 100% correct pronunciation by native speakers, the app often says it's wrong.
I purchased the Lifetime Subscription but in the manage your subscription menu it did not show Lifetime Subscription as what I had. It was ex'd out. After contacting support the problem was fixed. Babbel gets no points for taking money and not delivering without support being asked to confirm that I have access to what I paid for.
Installed the app, completed the first lesson, enjoyed it and was excited abt continuing to learn with this app, only to find out it's not free!!
In the beginning I was not so sure that the training plan is adapted to my learning needs because a lot of new words were introduced at once in the sentences, but the more In progress the better it gets. It teaches you meaningful words for everyday conversation. Very good if you are serious about learning a new language. For vocabulary improvement I still use other apps that are more playful, but Babbel is still my 1st recommendation.
it sucks I keep practicing the same subject I stopped using it. it hasn't helped me at all
How is one supposed to learn when the new words that are introduced have no translation attached to them. You're left to basically guess or use Google. Which is extra time for something that should have in the app to help make things clear.
Having swapped from Duolingo to this in my attempt to learn Brazilian Portuguese I'm left feeling very disappointed. It is not engaging at all, very hard to follow and after a matter of weeks I hate it. It does not flow and throws in random words which I have little interest in learning or wanting to use. I decided to pay for the full year, a complete waste of time and money in my opinion. I thought it was more AI driven to be more fluent in conversation but I'm completely wrong. Not for me
Im using 4 different language apps, for the first few months i used Babbel, it was my favorite. but the format changed a bit, being forced to spell long German words, a few seconds after seeing it for the first time, isnt working, its frustrating. the pronunciation recognition is also the poorest of the apps im using.
The one lesson I could do was good and felt like I was learning but, locking almost the entire app behind a paywall is pretty extreme. At the very least let people do a certain amounts of lessons a day instead of not letting anyone, who doesn't immediately spend money on you, actually learn.
does not stay on C1 can't access C2. keeps going back to AI. I've done B1 and B2. Don't want AI
I can only choose one particular language to learn. It doesn't let me review conversions and the lessons.
So I got the app expecting to actually be able to learn my language but then i found out i have to pay for another lesson? Why do I have to pay money just to learn a new language? I really don't think that's fair.
I had to pay for literally everything but I didn't pay.
You get locked behind a subscription paywall after the first lesson of a language.
poorly organized. very scattered. no search option. gives drop down menus in some sections only in Spanish????
I could only do one lesson the rest requires subscription.
this app is a real disappointment, all lessons are on pronouns and verb conjugation so far, after 2 weeks I'm really no where
App placed me on a level way beyond my ability.
first of all you don't have all the languages how are we supposed to learn languages if half of them are gone that's why I give you a one
overrated, not enough explanations, too much phrase drilling
I pay for it and it can't install on my phone.
App is trash, it doesn't offer a monthly subscription. You either have to pay a hundred dollars or more
This app forces 3 month minimum auto billing subscription fees which discriminate against people with ADHD or other memory disorders that make it hard to manage auto billing subscription fees.
You literally can only do the first lesson for free and then your given an extremely expensive paywall. No thanks. Deleted. If i wanted to pay id take an actual class at a university.
Its a great app for an Advanced Learner. I am not one and its terrible for me personally. It has passed me by so quickly that I have no clue what it says in a three week period. I paid for the annual and wish I wouldn't have. Its just too advanced for a beginner.
You need a subscription to actually learn... in my opinion that's a bit silly. Good format but not enough free options for those who can't pay.
add korean
Installed due to good reviews. Learned it costs money AND you can't even do monthly payments. Immediately uninstalled.
this app sux!
not user friendly. too advanced for a true beginer.
Nu poți învăța dintr o limbă mai puțin cunoscută. Poți învăța o alta limbă doar dacă știi una de circulație internațională.
Presents lessons in an intuitive, not instructional, way. Requires users to pay a lot of attention. Will not let your mind wander. Lessons use real situations.
I just got it, and I'm sure it's great BUT the first thing I see when I open it is, "Get your streak on"... which is from "Get your freak on" which is degenerate. So 3 stars. Makes me not want to pay for a subscription.
not have a 4 step process to delete account, other than that it was o.k.
Too much typing not enough speaking. I struggle to learn from this app.
App does not recognize speech consistently. No consistency in grammar. I truly dislike this app.
I signed up for french, got spanish. No way to switch it. As it was loading all the screens referred only to french, so not sure how it happened and since it can't be changed, it's useless to me, now.
Even beginning stage is too difficult for me. I learn better by reading words and grammar rather than by listening.
babbel is really good including the lessons because idk but the whole purpose of the app is to learn a language or languages but it's all locked behind a stupid monthly pay wall but anyways do WE eat pig guts and snails
The lessons are MUCH too long. Babbel should reduce the time it takes to complete lessons. I chose 5 mins per day when setting up my profile, but it takes over 30 minutes to complete one lesson! It also relies too heavily on typing and spelling.
No it's just too hard I don't find myself learning at all. Just when I think I can grasp new phrases they make it impossible to stick by adding too similar of words right next to it for example a la and en. It's impossible to learn when identical phrases with just a small change in the words completely change what is being said. Why not teach a phrase and then teach a completely different phrase and have us memorize this instead of picking apart each similar phrase like we are already fluent?
I'm very disappointed in this app. I thought it would grow on me, but missed the opportunity for a free refund. The voice recognition (listening to you talk) is slow, and constantly says it can't hear me (despite every other voice app on my phone behaving well). And I don't know what criteria they are using to determine the order of words to teach in the lesson, but it is NOT in order of frequency used. I very much regret buying a lifetime membership. waste of money!!!!
"Hello." "How are you" "Good, thank you". That's all I was able to lead before being paywalled. Nearly identical format to every other language app, and I was not sold on why it's worth that ridiculously expensive subscription.
poor structure. promised a lot and delivered very little. moved to Pimsleur and Infinitely better.
SCREEN INTERACTIVE! CANCELLING! This is NOT an app to use if you want it for your commute! I set up for base subscription, which hasn't charged yet. As soon as I can, I'm cancelling and getting Pimsleur.
Very annoying, screen orientation is locked in an inconvenient portrait. Some exercises require picking letters that are very small and far from the question. Transitions are slow and cannot be configured.
unnecessarily long sign up process. i just wanna start learning right away, not answer a 20 question survey or enter my email.
My lifetime subscription isn't here anymore. wow
👎Calling this app “free” is technically true in the same way as a brothel letting you in for a free hug, pointless. I downloaded it expecting fun free lessons like your ads stated, Plot twist "free" apparently means one miniscule lesson than BooM that shiesty little subscription fairy appears💸! No free tier! No ad supported option! Kind of misleading you guys. It would be a great app if you offered a free account w/ daily limits like Duolingo. Come on, yall gotta think about us broke broads 🤣
This app so bad I'm convinced the good reviews are AI generated. I try to say the word in a language I want to learn (for me it's Norwegian) I say Hei and the speech recognition doesn't pick up anything at all. Don't even bother with this app.
Barbell has a lot left to be desired. It has you repeat a lot of stuff and phrases, but doesn't really explain the grammar that well. There also isn't any way to reference past material or grammar rules.
Boring app after a few weeks. Learning has not improved since swapping from Duolingo. Lessions are boring, repetitive and frustrating. Don't know how you are meant to stick with this for a year and especially for the price you pay. Tediousness of the lessions I struggle with and just skip through as fast as I can with heaps of mistakes. Visibility of the words is poor. Duolingo you could click on a word and a pop up describe what it is.
Ich lerne Deutsch. Die Spracherkennung ist nicht gut.
THUMBS UP if you agree, THUMBS DOWN if you don't. If your goal is a streak, and you miss a day, the streak cannot be frozen. It is broken. That's how streaks work. Streak freeze is an irritating feature you can't turn off. Fed it back and got condescending representatives trying to explain to me how a streak freeze works, like clearly I don't understand it or I would like the feature.
someone set me up with DuoLingo... it's more like a game. I switched to Babbel as I really want to learn the language of my family. I'm not really loving Babbel. It is better than Duo but I don't feel its worth the money. Additionally, I absolutely HATE the end of a lesson where I have to fill in the dialogue.
you have to pay to learn
everything requires payment, id reccomend looking for a free app.
It was good until I started seeing images of their LGBT propaganda. They are DEI and proud of it. I asked for a refund. They show images of two men getting engaged above the words when you are learning lessons.
Even on sale this app is NOT worth it. Better to talk to a developed AI like Google, Grok or Chat GPT. Babbrl scenarios are ridiculous the lessons lack depth and the app lacks so many useful features you would expect from such a prominent app/program. Dave time and money... look elsewhere.
Completely counterintuitive, and confusing layout. Often it's really hard to tell what they want you to do. As well the translations can too often be contradictory and out right wrong. I will give them credit for grammar explanations though. Also there's not much in the way of personalizing your experience. Like speech speed for example. Transitions are painfully slow, and whenever you exit the app, it exits the lesson and you have to reload it.
horrid
it's wouldn't let me do my other lesson it is dumb would not recommend
**To note, I am already fluent (from birth) in the language I am "learning" I only downloaded to refresh my grammar. The speaking portion of this app is a joke. I don't know if it's background noise interfering, but I basically have to scream for it to accept any words. Vocab grading system doesn't make sense? You can get all the answers right, but it will say those words are "weak"? Also, lots of lessons w/o instructions, so you have to guess what they want u 2 do 🙄 WAY 2 expensive for this
useless without payment information. spams my email account at least 5 times a week about "last day for lifetime discount" literally every day. unsubcribe link sends me to install the app 😄 no thank you.
heard was free?? asking for £90 quid uninstalled...
overpriced, and I hate subscriptions
I signed up for3 months, and there's still, taking money from my account and now i'm having a hard time. Canceling this subscription.
hard to navigate cant see subscription on app
after installing the app, I did not see choices for Arab learners. around 26 countries arabic spoken. so you have to set this language to learn.
they got Turkish and Danish but I don't see Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Irish, Greek, Vietnamese, Philippines, Hawaiian and many more languages Please add more ._. and u have to pay for the next session
Wollte 7 day trial machen, alles durchgelaufen aber ich kann trotzdem nicht die 2. Lektion ansehen und es sagt ich muss subscriben. Jetzt kann ich zum einen nicht die app nutzen und zum anderen habe ich stress weil ich nicht weiß ob sie mir nach 7 Tagen Geld abbuchen. Die Kombination aus beiden hat mir jetzt nicht einfach unnötig Stress gemacht und Zeit gekostet.
While you have to pay for it, if you're serious about learning a language, this is infinitely better than Duolingo and very much supports language school lessons. With specific lessons on grammar, pronunciation, syntax and the country's traditions, it gives a strong foundation up to B1.
it's a great app. wish there would be flashcards for subject and verb conjugations and tenses. I want. he wants. I wanted, he wanted, I will want, he will want for lots of various commonly used verbs. want, pay, see, give, go, etc. I have to use Google translate and make my own. also when a sentence is given, the words in the sentence don't necessarily match the actual literal translation, so you don't really learn the words because the words don't really mean what it says.
The content is great. Much more suited to adults than Duo. Could do with a UI update. Feels a bit like it's stuck in the 90's compared to some of the beautiful apps aroud. Overall it's great. Flash cards, revision, listening and speaking exercises. All the things you'd expect from a language learning app.
This app needs to be better. it started out with great lessons but real learning requires repetition and conversation. This is where Babbel fails. I really hate these random lessons with cultural context but no connection to actually learning the language.
really not a fan of the lay out. its too repetitive and difficult to navigate.
easy to use and easy to stick with. After 6 months, I feel like I am starting to really grasp the basics
it doesn't have the language im trying to learn (Japanese). it's good for the languages it does have though.
Can't do more than one free lesson. I was hopeful that I'd be able to use it for free. However I like the way it does the lessons, very different from DL. It's a shame that they don't give a free tier.
Could not get speech recognition working in this app, so speaking practices were unusable. Tech support unhelpful. Also, you can download unit files but the app does nor work completely offline (and eg. sync progress when online again).
this app is the best app to help you learn any language that you want to. I wish I knew about this app sooner because it's not just teaching you how to talk in different languages. its also fun to learn, and there is no ads. This app fits any age so if you are looking for a app where you can learn what language you want.Downloaded Babble!!!
Don't know why the minimum length is 3 months (greed, obviously). I wanted to try it, I heard good things - but not for 3 months. They advertise a low price, per month, but the catch is 3 months minimum. Going back to Duolingo and Bussu. No thanks.
Doesn't offer good ai conversation. Worth. You cannot umsubscribe and stop payment. I have to block it from the card, shame 79
minimal languages available — 1 star
it's dumb. I'm not here to take quizzes before I know anything.
Blows away Duolingo! This coming from a ten year Duolingo user. No contest for learning!
does not work offline
I just want to learn Latin American Spanish and not Spanish from Spain it's hard enough just to learn one but unfortunately with this app you can just learn the one you have to learn both
does NOT offer European Portuguese only offers Brazilian Portuguese. uninstalled right away
i like it more than Duolingo so far, i remember my lessons better and they feel more practical. that being said, i'm doing the Swedish course, and i swear i could literally record the speaker and play it back and the app would still say the pronunciation is wrong. i don't know what it wants from me, i asked a Swedish friend to grade my pronunciations and he said they were excellent, yet the app outright refuses to recognize even the most simple words like "vi" and "gata".
EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO IS LOCKED ! I would appreciate it if more stuff were free, to me this app just feels like a money grab🙄
it's only paid
It's well structured and the content is good, but it is slightly misleading in terms of the amount of content. The Polish language only has 2 modules which are fairly bare bones and only goes to A2 level. If there was a bit more depth, say to B1 level or better than Babbel could easily be 5 stars.
you have to pay if you want to continue
100% paid app, no way to try out before subscribing. Unfortunate.
I was using Duolingo for over a year before switching over to Babble. best choice ever! Babble TEACHES THE WHY as opposed to random words without explanation!
I have to pay but when I looked it up it didn't say it was not free
Inconsistent in lessons/review
subscription is very expensive, and this app doesn't have enough free lessons
Subscription app
For learning difficult languages like German, the style Babbel uses stops working once you reach the higher levels. The grammar rules get more complex and the "we'll show you the rule once and expect you to understand it" style of teaching isn't helpful. The grammar guide hasn't been added to in years and is pretty useless for fluency. Live tutoring has been replaced with terrible AI voice recognition.
Training jumps around too much. I understand basic Spanish and the app jumps from basic formal and informal to expanded verbs in the first week. The word a day is advanced for beginners. There is very little explanation as to the different form of verbs in the first three weeks for beginners. In addition, no one I know says "Yo soy" as "jo Soy" yet Babbel teaches this more formal Spanish. 8.25.2026 developer responded if a lesson is too advanced I can change it. that's not the point of my review
Should tell you the price before making someone make an account. scammy.
there are ZERO methods of contacting Babbel staff on any part of the internet including emails. ZERO. That tells you everything you need to know about this company.
weak app of you haven't learnt all noun genders by heart - you'll need a second app for the gender (der/die/das) of nouns to be able to complete any grammar exercise as the app doesn't consider this useful information when teaching grammar (not even in grammar summaries!?). easy to use interface, some bugs. app does not allow you to tailor the order in which you learn things either, and limits the amount of grammar summaries you can see. basic books are superior to this app. friendly app though.
I really like Babbel. It gives context and explains the grammar in a very clear manner. I am learning french. I also gave as a gift to my partner to learn Portuguese and am impressed how good it is with slang and vocabulary we in fact use in daily life. Nothing comparable to Duolingo - this app is on another level. it is not cheap indeed, but if you get an end of summer offer it is worth it , I think.
fantastic. absolutly 0 notes. loved the way it teaches.... shame is so insanely expensive and wont let you pay for less than 3 months at once. i can not afford this.
I've started learning Brazilian-Portuguese, with 1 year of Babbel+ as it was the best value option. So far it's very good, an easy UX, and progress syncs perfectly across App and Browser. Course structure is sensible, and clearly well planned. The daily vocab review has different ways to aid memorisation, growing dynamically as you finish lessons. Babbel doesn’t overdo gamification or prompts. 'Daily streak' and 'streak challenges' are the only check-in mechanics. Emails and PNs aren't pushy.
Frustrating language recognition. It asks me to pronounce Restaurant in German where the emphasis is on the last syllable and then tells me that I got it wrong. In English, the only response is bo.ll.cks
Es ist (wäre) gute Praxis bei Updates anzugeben, was geändert wurde. Unbegreiflich, warum für den Wortschatztrainer nach kurzer Zeit eine Internetverbindung verlangt wird!! Alles wäre offline vorhanden. Der Entwickler müsste versuchen, sich in den Nutzer zu versetzen. Letzterer sitzt nicht immer im geschützten Büro...
Privacy is not an option. You MUST hit "accept all" to even open the app. They say you can change your mind later but by that point you have already consented to having your name, email etc sold to advertisers!
Charged me for another year when I set up my account to not auto-charge, and they charged me a day early. Won't be signing up again!
Seems to be a great app, but you cannot get away without paying. It's unfortunate.
app doesnt work, phone: red magic 9 pro. deleted reinstalled. still doesnt work
I have no faults except it does didnt have any non European languages, such as Korean or Japanese
I'm learning swedish with babbel. Well structured, native speakers and responsive support. Once my subscription expires I'll likely get the lifetime plan.
too expensive
same as Duolingo. too expensive. not really learning. boring waste of money. promised 7 days free and a monthly plan, and it didn't honor that. took one lump sum payment and have yet to figure out on how to cancel.
didn't even help me learn, told useless words that I will never use.
didn't know I had to subscribe to use it
I REALLY REALLY wanna learn Russian because I love the language, the songs, all of it but I want to pay monthly and it's just confusing I haven't actually tried the learning experience yet because I'm still at the paying part
I speak Persian. please put Persian in the app.
Set up a 21 day challenge, no idea how to do it, incredibly unclear instructions. No matter what activity I did nothing counted. Very off-putting and not extremely demotivating. Editing for a 2026 "Lets give it another try" update and if you like the app CONSTANTLY signing you out for no reason, this is the app for you. World class programming.
Solid, but some aspects are lacking- especially speaking functions and the library of words and phrases. Feedback on spoken tests is limited to pass/fail, input is heavily influenced by background noise, and seems to rely on some janky tonal pattern matching software. You can easily spoof a pass by mumbling consonants but closely imitating tone. The "learned" terms are affected by some recency bias thing, and completely fails to record certain words, especially verb forms. Lots of room for......
Unlike Duolingo, this is a real language learning app that actually teaches you about the rules of the language you're learning. I can't speak for languages besides Polish, but the learning materials include references to russian (language and people), which I believe should be replaced with Ukrainian.
unfair. you should tell users that this app is "pay to win" before they register, actually even before they install the app! -> uninstall
you have to pay for it
it is EXTREMELY difficult to manage your subscription either in the app or on the web. Cannot find a way. Unlike apps such as Duo, you cannot skip/postpone lessons that require you to speak aloud, or to listen. That's a big deal for me.
I've been learning with audio books and then duo lingo now babel. it is brilliant for teaching the grammar as this is the nuts and bolts of learning a language. The app has so many extra avenues of learning like writing, conversations etc... much more rounded learning experience
very poor, not recommended
