Overall, this is a pretty great app. I share journals with my mom, my brother, and myself. The only thing is that it is mostly locked up behind a pay wall. To use this app to its full potential, you need to pay. I don't understand the purpose of paying if you can just write it down on paper for cheaper. So I'm not paying, which makes the experience not as good. I'd recommend paying if you have money to spare. If not, the app isnt the most useful.

I found Waffle when I was looking for something to help my partner and I stay connected while we are living apart. I would be giving 5 stars, but I feel like I can only give 3, as the app keeps crashing on me whenever I try to open the entries page or after I submit an entry. It's made it extremely difficult to use/enjoy. Despite the fixes I've tried nothing has helped and I've not heard back from support for my issue. I want to keep using it, it's just not the smoothest experience unfortunately

For months now this app hasnt worked right. you only get a couple of characters before it completely stops and will not let you continue typing. kind of pointless for a journal app if you cannot journal more than 2-3 short sentences.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Waffle is a journal (can have more than one) that can be shared and commented on by those you share it with. There are question prompts specific to the type of journal you set up, but you don't have to use them. The app is great but the customer service is outstanding! They took a personal approach and fixed the issues I found, taking care to let me know when they were done. We need more developers such as what Waffle has as they care about producing a quality product. A+++

A wonderful application for journaling

The keyboard often hides the compose box, so you can't see what you're typing! that makes it very hard to use. also the compose box is often 1 or 2 lines. who journals in 1 or 2 sentences? for an app whose intended purpose is to write journal entries, you would think the user interface would have figured out basic functionality! aside from that, notifications seem to work pretty well

it's an interesting idea, though I cannot understand why the free version isn't allowing me to see the daily question. I get all the other questions being part of the paid version, but it's just weird.

added the 7 day trial for the upgrade but unable to access the "premium" features. if you choose to install then save your money and time and stick to the free version.

The app itself is great, but the people behind it is better. They have been so kind when I had a problem regarding a subscription and they guided me step by step on what to do. Would definitely recommend this app if you're looking for a journal that's easy to access.

I mean hey maybe whatsapp is close to the same principle. But the idea of a shared journal with my wife considering I'm on the other side of the world for a period was just what we wanted. But have to say at the begining setting up was a nightmare definitely would not say user friendly. Then came an update. Most all works BUT for me the kicker right now is the inability to see when you edit what your typing as the typing does not stay above the keyboard. Hopefully fixed soon. Hence 3 star only.

UPDATE: I did end up hearing back and receiving a FULL REFUND!! "I found it very difficult to set up. it actually made me create two accounts after it wouldn't let me in to the first one.... Then ended up charging me for premium right away when I should have had a free trial....BEWARE!!!! THEY ENDED UP TAKING ALMOST $100 that I NEVER AUTHORIZED!! I contacted support multiple times WITH NO RESPONSE!! it would be great if they actually read this review and refund my money!!"

VERY BAKWAS

I use this app with 2 people. The first person is a recovering addict and we use it to document her sobriety journey, and help encourage her along. The questions don't always align since that isn't an option for topics. But it's useful. The other person has trauma and this is a tool she is using with me and her therapist to help her on her healing journey. It has a couple bugs but they are minor inconveniences. I love the guided questions and sharing. It's why I chose this app.

I think it was free if it's become free of cost there will be so much fun but now I'm just started using it

What's up with the app after the new update? Constantly logs me out after I close and try to reopen the app, unable to scroll with the keyboard out to continue typing for later paragraphs, and when I tried to close and open the app again to resolve that issue my draft is gone after they logged me out. Seriously, for a journal app it's so tough to actually journal on the app itself. I have no choice but to resort to the in-phone notes app and pasting. Just too bad.

Me and my partner have had this app for over three years now and it's always been a bit glitchy. But recently it's been a bit out of control. I can't see when my partner adds a journal, because every time I close out of the app it logs me out. I really do like this app as we've been consistent on it for over three years. And it's really helped us in a lot of ways. But it's very annoying when you have to long in every single time just to use it.

The app is absolutely amazing. Me and my best friend are enjoying it a lot. The only complaint I have is that when I do multiple entries a day, it keeps popping up the streak. Even when I'm in the middle of editing something. So it can make me lose progress. My request to the developers would be to only show the streak once a day after the first entry, and then it should just rest.

i can't find my journal anyway :( the homepage has only the options to create new or join existing, even when i try to "join existing" and i put my journal key it tells me that im already in this one, im so frustrated!! and when i tap create new it tells me to "personalize your FIRST journal"?? hello???

editing my review: After years of normal operation, suddenly they've decided to absolutely spam me with emails and alerts and push notifications. I get maybe 5-6 per day and there's nothing I can do to turn them off. Unsubscribing seems to be specific to each 'type' of email and they feel the need to send me push alerts about 'new covers' at 3am. Then another at 3:05 for 'this months questions' or some other nonsense.

I signed up for the free trial didnt like it and when it was supposed to cancel it charged me instead I put in for a refund and im waiting to hear back . I dont make enough for app to be taking money under false advertising

The app doesn't work. I subscribed to the trial, but it keeps asking me to subscribe, says Im on the free plan. Created and set up a journal twice, but it can't be found. The code I was given to share returns no journals. When I try to log in with Google it returns the value of Null and wont let me log in. Same with email and password. Ive invested an hour and a half of my time and have nothing tk show for it.

there should be a free forever journal use here, otherwise every thing is good

Used to love this app; doesn't work anymore. I cannot for the life of me get this app to load up. I never had issues with it but now it just never loads and yes I've uninstalled and reinstalled it and made sure both my cellular and wifi connections were stable and preforming. It just won't load.

My experience with this app has been a nightmare. It barely let's you see what the app can do before prompting you to pay SIXTY DOLLARS for a year of an app that AI generates questions for you. I was still checking out the app when it glitched and next thing you know my payment information is entered and I've been charged $63, yet it still asked me to pay. Didn't even give me the damn app. Spent weeks communicating with the app dev before he just ghosted me. Took me months to get a refund.

The prompts are not that creative, and the AI prompts are very repetitive. ChatGPT does better. The platform is amateurish. There's no word processing function. It's plain text or nothing. I don't like that at all. I won't be re-subscribing. I feel like I wasted $60 on an annual subscription I'm not using beyond a month due to the platform being hard to use. I also don't like that the programmers are using AI to auto-respond to poor reviews.

ads make it a bit annoying and intrusive, im not asking to remove them but find a better way to show ads. Commenting is a premium feature?? thats so annoying and for some reason it tells me to log in every time i open the app. i had to make my journal twice cus it removed the one i had before i logged in when i used it for the first time.

Really, on top of your ridiculous premium price, are you adding ads after submitting an entry? Congratulations on making the app less enjoyable. Update: Day One is much better. Thank you for forcing the ads on your non premium members.

Tried saving a date for a journal but it never saves, it input another date instead

I love it so far I just wish you could change like the font of the text like to smaller or different sizes and I wish you can add more than just six photos back of the background of the notebooks

It looked really fun, but it's really buggy. It didn't save my first journal, it took me three times to try and sign back in when I was booted off and then I couldn't finish making a new journal because it kept freezing up in the questionnaire. Twice.

This is such a well matured concept and execution. But man, I cant believe how much it sucks to try to edit an entry. whenever I go into edit mode, a few seconds later the app scrolls to the bottom of the entry taking me away from what I was editing. I was so excited when I seen this app preview on Facebook, so I immediately went to download it. I read a review where the customer was upset that after she created her profile and answered all the questioned that it wasn't a free app, and to continue they had to pay. You guys responded saying that it was free and that they weren't looking at it correctly.THEY WERE RIGHT. Yall give a 7day free trial, and then you have to pay. So I got excited for nothing. Anything to make a $ huh? 😔

I got through the sign up to get to the free trial screen, and then as soon as I agreed to that the app crashed, didn't save anything, and now every time I go through to redo it the app crashes again. Seems really convenient that it works until you agree to give them money. Getting rid of it immediately, I don't like scams.

Wish they were upfront about the cost. Only after you write your info does it tell you it will cost $5.99/month and the only option is 1 yearly payment of $59.99 (I believe, I saw yearly payment and was annoyed and closed the screen). I find it hilarious when companies act like they really just want to bring families together that is why they created this app. But then it becomes painfully obvious that they created the app for a paycheck because there is no free version.

it was working fine until my 123rd journal entry, i went to post it, but the post button is gray, and won't allow me to. I created another journal to see if it was the journal group but it still won't let me post. I cleared the cache and everything but I still just can't post anything.

I really wanted to get on here & give this app a good rating after testing it out but, considering I haven't even officially been able to open it & get it to fully load on my s22 ultra so I can create an account, its not looking promising. App is up to date, & my phone is too. app is good, easy to understand however it literally locks you out of it. You can't access it for a few minutes which I don't get at all. Also, the entire app just starts to lag if you spend too much time on it, and don't get me STARTED on the writing. Even with writing, it starts to lag and it makes the words repeat over and over again. Also, whenever I delete something, my cursor just moves up to a random text and deletes it as well, I mean what's that?? could've been better but disappointing.

Never worked. Would never remember login details, would never remember friends journals I was part of, wouldn't give any journal prompts for us to do together, and there was some bug that prevented completing the account creation process. Basically never got to use the app for its intended purpose during the week I had it installed. Overall a frustrating experience. Developer - Thank you for your reply but the last update is dated 19th and my review the 22nd.

Keeps on logging me out. So much bugs for android apps. Not yet optimized for non-Apple devices. Sign-in options too many errors.

the app concept is nice but the sign in with Google is so broken it makes using this impossible. I had to log in repeatedly nearly 10 times to finally view my journal. I should not be logged out imo unless I manually choose to and logging in should not be so bugged that it doesn't register multiple times

it's working well and it's a very good app but whenever I exit it and open it again it says to enter my again and do all things that were asked to do in the first time and then I exit and after opening it it goes to the login page and this goes on means every time I enter the app I have to login pls help and fix this

Edit: Cancelled Trial I've had this for a little over 8 hour, and I'm completely annoyed by the application requiring me to login every time. I'm going to uninstall and cancel the trial if I cant find a way to fix this. I login via gmail, and whenever I close the app and reopen, I'm prompted with "enter your name." So I then have to close the app and reopen to get back to the google login screen. I'm not paying $10 a month for a broken app. I have emailed support and waiting to hear back.

It was a rough start on this app but once I figured it out it's a great bonding tool! The rough start was app complications setting up an account/journal. It kept asking me to sign up even after I had already been invited to a journal, even though I had already set up the account.

Love the app so much! I have been using it for around 2-3 years already. Waffle is very easy to use. The interface is lovely too. Very worth trying! I wish they can develop a widget for the app. I forget to write entries a lot so it would be great to have a Waffle widget on my homescreen to remind me. And also, allow adding multiple images to one entry.

Can't access the app offline, sucks - what's even the point? It would be an amazing feature if you could journal offline, and it'd upload once you're online. The only free eight options for the journal cover are mid. Using images and voice messages is locked behind a pay wall. You can only SHARE TEXT with your friend for free, so it's basically a bad version of messages...

Almost perfect, but you should be able to at least read the entries even with no internet connection. At least the ones that were loaded before.

Not sure why "Student" discounted memberships are offered if they don't reply via e-mail. I love the idea and the U.I is great. Scroll bar doesn't work well on my phone so tough to read entries. Was hoping to make this a long term thing, probably not considering the lack of support when e-mailing to follow up about discounts they mention on their page. Ah well, back to pen and paper.

Update as of 11/13/24. In September 2024 I expressed that the app does not allow me to scroll up and down on a journal entry. I write lengthy journal entries for my family to read and unless I physically grab the cursor, I cannot scroll up or down the page. And if I click off of the cursor the page freezes and doesn't allow me to move. I paid for the $200 journal plus so I feel like for the price, a simple scroll bar should be an easy fix. I just updated the app and the problem persists.

when i found out about this app, waffle, i felt really excited! i couldn't wait to share it with my friends. but when i downloaded it, i dound out that most of the fearures (for which i was excited) were all included in the premium plan. now, i'm a student and not everyone can afford to get the premium plans for applications. i wish that some of the features, atleast one or two, could be included in the basic plan as well, so that we could enjoy writing waffles without getting bored…🧸🥞🍪

Commenting on an entry comes out in first-letter Caps. Something like: "This Is A Test Of The Comment Section" It affects the commenting experience

EDIT: As of Aug 11th, 2024 my previous grievances have been fixed. Updating my review to give this app a 4/5⭐ review. My long distance bf and I use this app to journal together. The question of the day prompts are great for encouraging journaling on days you may not have much on your mind. Knocked a single star off due to some bugs & the lack of ability to pay a lump sum for permanent plus status rather than a subscription. All in all, great app!

Really Really wished i could go on the app offline. Im not always connected and id like to write something down without internet and then it would automatically sync once I'm online. Also it takes so long to load when the app opens. Otherwise i love this app! and I'm so glad to have come accross it.
