not as advertised. limited apps that was shown she could use for free. help line was no help.
Not easy to use. Surely must be a simpler way of selecting which content you want to share on which device.
Recent updates have made this app much better. That said, it is lacking the same thing many of these parental control apps are lacking, which is the ability to apply settings to multiple children simultaneously. This would be very handy and time saving. I would also like to be able to allow certain apps to be available at all times, like messenger kids, so they can communicate with family and friends. These changes would warrant 5 stars.
could do with a volume control, that would then be a perfect 5
Glitzy and unstable. Not reliable. Setting time is tedious after an "upgrade" in interface
Would have had a better score but the Amazon kids+ content search function is possibly the worst search I have ever used. Completely useless at matching what you search for, can't bulk select/unselect or filter by what's installed. Just terrible user experience 😔 such a shame for a multi-billion dollar company to push out
learning should have a list of allowed apps. Libby, for ex, is not considered learning.
I want to completely disable videos and shows and its not easy to find
After the expiration date. I renewed and my child account got deactivated even after signing up.
Crappiest most frustrating app you will ever use, and they have the nerve to charge $7.99 a month for this garbage.
horrible and not user friendly. trying to play audio books but constantly unable to. very frustrating!
If I make a change using my phone app it doesn't go into effect on tablets and I have to make the actual changes on the tablets. We have been experiencing this issue since the update earlier this month. Another issue I was having was changing the time limits. This just started today and I finally realized what had changed and am now able to change the times by selecting the click icon next to the times. Up until today I only had to select the edit and the time clock automatically showed up.
after the update to the dashboard sometimes my child's profile shows no activity in the app but I know and see their current activity on the fire tablet. why is this no longer synchronized? yes the tablet is on wifi
Horrible to use. please, please, please, add some kind of sorting feature. Every time I need to find any item I have to search through a list of hundreds of books that are in completely randomized order. I would use anything else if there were some other way to share books with my kid.
not a lot of flexibility in controls. Take a peak at family link. It's better.
still tricky and cumbersome to use but its come a long way after recent updates
Decreasing from 2 stars to 1 after 6+ months of usage. Such a terrible experience from Amazon. Edit 9 months later: still terrible.
I got this for the parental controls. Its almost good. There are better apps out there that give the parent more controls on any android device with a better app store.
the one feature that's critical for me is pausing my child's device. This feature only works with a major delay, which then turns into me attempting to pause multiple times. this is a frustrating experience.
Often not responsive and not sure how the time zone is set up.
why don't you allow to set extra evening time to read books only and block all other content? it's ridiculous.... also adding extra time allowance doesn't work unless I choose "all day". my child is really happy with it but, me, as a parent, I'm disappointed.
all of a sudden nothing works and unable to download anything no option to download and play...essentially a dead end anywhere you click
I hate that I cannot remove apps that my kids no longer care about in the "Your Apps and Content" list. I do not mean remove them from my kids' access, I know how to do that, but I mean just remove the app from the list. I do NOT need a list of every little app my kids ever tried out for 2 seconds and ended up hating. Please make a way for this list to have items deleted from it.
cannot de register devices and managing content for kids is complicated
doesnt work like its supposed to. my brother is able to access the parental dashboard and turn if off by himself through his tablet. and when I restrict some apps on the app, My brother is still able to access the app on his tablet and use it. the app doesnt do whats its intended to do which makes it useless. also not to mention how it is not accurate. my brother will be using the tablet and when I check the app it will tell him he was active 1hr ago. like what?
pretty limited. deactivating all the baby games is not easily possible. you can either allow apps for your child or not. that basically includes all. adding library access (login has dynamic URLs) is not possible as you can not whitelist domains but only specific URLs.
This app is horrible for parents who want to control what is on their kids tablets. I can't search blocked content, the learn first feature is great except Amazon decides what is a learning app. so it blocks apps I put on there too even if educational. new apps automatically aren't blocked so I have to go block them everytime they appear. Do better amazon. surely you have the money. it teaches so much effort to do small things with these parental controls.
Shockingly bad! Nothing loads on the app, so I currently have 0 parental controls. Very close to binning the whole thing!
kids can find a way past the security and it's not easy for parents to find how to plug the gap, and amazon staff couldn't help
This app is horribly designed. The items that I want to modify could be on one of many tabs. It takes so many clicks to find the thing. and then you cannot control everything from the app. Some things have to be modified from the kindle and some things from the app. I should be able to change all settings from either place. I have no desire to have one more garbage app forced onto my phone. Predatory Amazon praying on my love for my child to force me to download this trash.
So much worse than the Microsoft or Google equivalents. Poor interface, poor control settings, and they only work intermittently anyway.
just a poor app, no way to find an tablet when lost and the screen lock doesn't work, the interface is very clunky.
when I try to block youtube on the content tab. Nothing seems to happen. the tablet still plays youtube even after I turned it off. Very frustrated with this because that is a feature I use when my kid with autism doesn't listen. It needs to be fix.
Amazon kids is the best for me because it gives us parents the full control power over the kids tablets, they can play, have fun, learn but under control, is this not amazing, ofcourse it it, thanks Amazon 👍👏👏👏
absolutely unnatural and convoluted app environment. Nearly impossible to manage non-kindle forced apps. Everything is a fifty-step process, like downloading a streaming app, and downloading movies before a trip.
One of the most unintuitive apps out there. Almost as incoherent as AWS
The pausing and resuming are wonky as heck. they don't always work 😒
How is Amazon so bad at software. This app is dreadful. It's very hard to use.
Doesn't work at all. Keeps taking me to the Get Started page no matter how many times I try to sign in or re-download the app
I don't like that when I turn their screen time off on their tablets, it also turn off music listening on their speakers
You cannot protect your kids with this app. I have all of the updates. I've set time parameters, blocked sites, etc etc. Both of my kids have found ways around all of the safeguards over and over.
if you can stay away from Amazon tablets, do it. the app developers on the Amazon ecosystem do not care about your kids nor your wishes. there are so many backdoors for your child to access other apps it's ridiculous. and this app itself is pretty garbage with the controls. go actual android or even iOS if you want better control of what your kids can access and protect them.
never seems to connect to my daughter's tablet properly like when I want to pause her screen. its horrible at filtering through trashy videos and games.
badly made app , too many categories everywhere, new update does not tackle this effectively. child can still access yt or web even when set to off. wasted my money buying these supposed "kid-friendly" devices.
We need a block all button so we can easily add the things we want our children to have access to. It's a huge pain to go through and block all the things. PLEASE get rid of the YouTube videos available when web is enabled! we use the web for school and I can't block the YouTube videos
this app helps control how much time my child has on the tablet. it helps me monitor what is being played and for how long.
One of the worst app experiences I've ever had. I have to reset the cache and storage every single time just to log in otherwise it's stuck on "getting started". Despite the update the update this issue persists! Awful.
Painfully slow and quite inflexible. No obvious way to change a kid's time limit just for today. No way to hide once favorite paw patrol from kid's desktop. No way to install custom apps, e.g. to read books in nonstandard languages that bundled software doesn't have. Periodically needs restart to enable access. That said, still helps managing kid screen time, thanks for that.
It would be nice if each device were controlled differently in the kids profiles.
Too much useless information, too hard to navigate needed materials.
almost impossible to get set up, and only barely works as it should. 'educational content' is almost anything but
Amazon Kids+ is absolute garbage. Every time I try to do anything with this thing it's extremely frustrating and I want to just throw it in the trash. Parental controls don't have nearly enough actual controls, and they make it near impossible to completely remove an app from the device. My daughter is always able to find workarounds and that is exactly what this is supposed to be preventing. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and use a basic set up that actually works. Never again.
Difficult to manage the app, half the time it will not turn off even when its on pause.
I swear by Amazon kids as you the parent have complete control over everything. You can keep track of what they are doing. You don't want them to have access to the internet they don't have access to the internet. You can set time limits. You the parent literally control Amazon Kids from your phone. Amazon kids is not only the best but it is also safe which is so important.
It is such a pain to maintain apps and set restrictions with this system. You can't just use your adult code and do maintenance from the tablet. It forces you to bounce back and forth between the tablet and your phone app with no clear instruction. Blocking access to unapproved videos is impossible. I find this exceptionally annoying considering how restrictive kids profiles are on Prime. Those teams need to get together to find a functional middle ground.
Slow improvements with this app. The latest updates really improved the interface. I love the option to limit individual activities on the tablet, and the option for "learn first." Unfortunately, the settings do not always take effect on my kids' tablets. Sometimes it requires a restart of their tablets, sometimes it just doesn't work at all. Hopefully this can get fixed!
Could I please manage purchase requests in the app. And it sure would be nice to know what I'm approving, for how much, and what card the money is coming from BEFORE I approve a purchase for my kid.
Very restricted options to control your child's screentime. There is no way of restricting time limits on apps that are not from Amazon. Very much dislike this app and quite useless.
Way too difficult to manage specific app use. I tried to give me kid access to a few things, and it basically won't let me block Roblox without essentially bricking the entire unit. Braindead limitations on parental controls.
I was logged out and now every time I try to log in I get an error. "There was a problem Internal Error. Please try again later." I have deleted and reinstalled the app and still receive the same error. can someone please help me? we like playing the games together but we cant now because it wont allow me to log in.
works sometimes. sometimes I want to pause my child's tablet for a break and it just doesn't work, or it won't follow the schedule I have set. I have two of them and pay for this service. it needs to do what I pay for otherwise it's just a rip off. UPDATE 6/21/26. and I'm still paying for a service that doesn't work. I'd advise not to download this service because it will disappoint and waste your money.
it is extremely bad at maintaining daily screen time limits. specifically on the Fire TV. when I turn on the tv first time in the afternoon, even then it directly says that screen time limit is up for the day!
New Update isn't working. The parents dashboard is showing no activity today even though my child has been playing on it for several hours. 😒
I see how the update carried the intention of making the app more user friendly by simplifying it but it has actually done the opposite. I have to dig through these different categories to get to controlling what is allowed on my child's tablet. That's the biggest frustration about it for me.
slow, unresponsive and nowhere near as good as it should be. I also use googles family link application, to give my son extra time on that, it is done instantly, with this application is is 50/50 is the time restriction I put in place is going to work, when I unlock it can take 5 minutes to feed through to the fire stick on my son's TV and is just not that great in my opinion. The application itself looks good and is simple but just doesn't work! at least for me!
this isn't even working. the time limits function does not keep track in real time when my kids use Netflix on their Firestick. With one of the profiles, I try to set a 2 hour limit for the day and it won't let my kid watch even a single second and for the other kid it never shuts off with any of my parental controls. Might as well not have the app at all.
With the new UI update, I can't figure out how to add new content for my child's profile. I only get prompted to get a subscription to Amazon kids+, but not my purchased content.
There is no option to only allow certain apps, books or videos. Instead you have to go through their thousands of apps, books and videos and turn them off one by one. edit: With their latest update there seems to be no way to block content. If there is a way they have hidden the option very well.
the update is absolute trash. you can't add purchased content through the app anymore. they're pushing their subscription and only showing content available through the subscription ON THE PARENT APP. do better amazon
Glad Amazon has a parent app. To get final stars: it needs an in-app feedback button and the ability to edit a child's profile name. We need a toggle to ALLOW kids access to the Live Guide, older-kid themes, and a 0-min time option (no chores, no time!). Most of all, fix the wake-up flaw! If I turn off the TV on an adult profile, it wakes up right there, giving kids unpinned access. Force a 'Who is watching?' screen!
This is a ridiculously bad app. And obviously Amazon does not want you to be able to control your children's screen time. you can only go in increments of 15 minutes and when you set this for apps and want nothing else, you still have to allow the overall screen time to 15 minutes more. That app is either intentionally design this way (my strong guess) or it is an embarrassment for Amazon.
It's always been clunkier than the website, but now I can't manage additional content and everything says I need kids+ when that's not actually true. trying to trick people into paying for a sub is deplorable. there are several settings inaccessible from the app and if I'm on the app, then I'm on my phone and I don't want to navigate in the clunky website either. making me consider a jump to an android tablet instead.
Unfortunately a bit of a buggy mess when it comes to protecting kids. Today I'm dealing with YouTube and Netflix not opening at all despite being allowed through the profile, just to get to the kids profiles set on those apps. If that isn't bad enough, how about seeing locked apps that you have to pay for that your kid sees daily on their home screen but can't remove. I pay a subscription and for the hardware, my child shouldn't have to see predatory apps asking for payment.
update: it's gotten worse the features aren't even working half the time I can't pause the devices. now I noticed they removed the icon to see time used. Grandma bought for my boys when they were small. I find these fire tablest have been thorn in our sides, but kids are addicted to them. Amazon store sucks. very difficult to do third party downloads. parental controls are cluncky, wish I could see the amount of time my kids have left from the dashboard. Avoid buying these
got this when we bought the tablet, wasn't sure if it would be good for him so I used a pre paid credit card I have for things like this in case I forget to cancel or something happens. anyway long story short they'll just go thru the list of card you have with anything Amazon until one works lol real shady practice. esp considering it's paid a month ahead of time. done with this company.
Absolutely horrible experience. Terrible UI and it fights you. We have since gone tablet free as the tech companies are increasingly trying to keep kids addicted to devices. I tried so hard to only let them use what I approved, but that is near impossible with this app. It only lets you remove videos, books and apps ONE BY ONE, and one episode at a time. That is a terrible pain if you know just how many titles Amazon owns. And then it all resets once the licenses cycle. Awful.
Kids are given access to endless apps automatically as opposed to downloading just what you want then to have. No option to restrict access to all, then unrestrict the ones you want. I restricted the ability for my child to download apps without permission, yet somehow apps are being downloaded. It's easier to monitor content on my iPad vs Amazon Tablet or Echo Show.
Apart from being unintuitive to use and having a terrible, unnavigable UI, my biggest complaint is you cannot limit Echo usage. I can set a schedule for my kid's Echo Pop so it turns off before bedtime, but I cannot set a daily time limit. This means I have to constantly babysit and monitor how long my kid's using it each day to ensure they aren't just using it all day long. "Screen time" in the app doesn't affect Echo devices; it's literally just for tablets. I honestly wish I never got it.
Amazon make it very difficult to download free content. You can find it on the app, but not send it directly to your child's Kindle. Search for it on the Kindle device, it won't show you anything other than paid content. Find it on your browser, no option to send directly to Kindle. This whole thing could be made a lot easier to use Kids+, I have a feeling it's deliberately hard to force you in to paying.
Parental control??? What's the point of having a parent controlled app that you cannot actually manage the content that is allowed to be downloaded, apps and games specifically?? The app is terrible and is not user friendly. I have to use chat GPT in order to help navigate inside the app to find what I'm looking for and still there are no content controls to adjust in the app.
The parental controls are there, they're just cumbersome to locate and effectively and efficiently monitor kids' activity. Setting time limits is also annoying to locate quickly and does not adjust in real time. When kids figure out turning the wifi off disables all their timing controls, any game/activity that is downloaded is no longer affected by the time limits. Lastly, having multiple kids on one amazon account and setting up individual tablets for just one kid is not intuitive.
lags a lot. cant rely on the pause device feature or the screen time timer.. its fincky and hard to buy apps like minecraft bcuz it wont let me choose what card on this app or the amazon app or thru email.. I have no idea how to get it on there and Im usually a tech savy girl. 0/10 would not recommend. Also the code to open the tablet also opens more screen time and parental control options.. which is rediculously hard to change!
We came from using Google Fanily Link which has a lot better features and more precise controls. being able to add to the minute as well as pause or see where your kids tablet is. or if they leave home you get a notification and general area. you can do basics from this app, control amount of time per day and pause/resume time or adjust time. it just isnt fine tuned and lacks features that both apple and android platform tablets have. do better amazon.
Everytime I try to access settings it says oops something went wrong. It asks if you wanna send an invite for Alexa to video chat and it won't let me send it. It is super difficult to navigate. There is no dedicated support team to help so no one knows how to help when you call. Downloaded a hooked on phonics app and can't even add it to her tablet. What is the point of the app if it doesn't work.
There's an Over Abundance of content, so much so that filtering it can be a challenge. Amazon should further break down subjects / categories to make auditing easier. Right now, it's a seemingly Endless scroll through hundreds of items that are in no particular order. Searching 'helps' but the results are still mixed and unorganized.
It doesn't work. I tried to pause my kid's kindle from the app and there was no effect. I spent an hour online with tech support and they finally decided it was the device so I had to return the device and get a new one. The new one had the same problem so I guess this critical feature just doesn't work with kindles and just wasted hours of my time trying to Debug it.
I switched to this from the Family Link app since we just got fire tablets for the kids. Here are the features this app lacks that Family Link has: 1. there is no way to set limits for individual apps. It's one time limit for everything combined. 2. there is no way to "always allow" certain apps (like books/reading or messaging for safety) once the time limit has been used up. 3. there is no easy option to add bonus time once the time limit has been used without altering the weekly sched.
The timer frequently doesn't work allowing our child WAY more tablet time than we intended. Once you restart the tablet, it will record the time appropriately and block her out, but not if you don't restart it mid-usage, daily. So if you choose this tablet and corresponding app, be sure you also have a secondary timer to monitor screen time. I severely regret this purchase.
I absolutely hate this app and kid's fire tablet. Clunky and unintuitive. You should be able to easily share content and adjust settings, but it feels like it's at least 5 extra steps to accomplish 1 task. The tablet gets clogged down with all the random apps and videos they have on there. It's ridiculous to have to pay for something so poorly designed and has such incredible lag time. We just purchased a new galaxy tab and can't wait to get rid of this app and fire tablet!!.
Doesn't take into account idle time, making it pretty worthless. a few nights ago my daughter watched a show for about half an hour. when we switched activities, she pressed pause. I came back an hour later and noticed the screen was still on with the show paused. I turned off the tablet and checked the app, and sure enough, it says she was on the tablet for an hour and half. this makes it pretty unreliable since she will often watch for a bit, pause it, and move on to another activity.
This app has never allowed app requests to be shown in the app. I never receive notifications. Since the other app was disabled the beginning of this month, I can no longer find app requests at all. I see another user mentioned they had to log into the account on a browser. However, this is a PAID service that no longer works the way it should. This issue needs to be fixed.
This was great! I used to be able to easily go in and adjust things, allow apps, she how much time she's using on different apps etc. As of tonight it says the app isn't available in all countries, gives an error code and says to sign in with a different Amazon account. I only have one account! Plus I'm in the U.S.A. How does it happen that an app works for a couple year then says it's not available!?!?
Error. Whatever updates you're doing, the app is no longer working. When it does work, any changes I make regarding time changes for my child's device may or may not work. Look at Googles parental control for a chromebook. That works great. We've been using Amazon kids unlimited for 8 years now. You'd think after 8 years it'd be better:/
App requests never show up, and I've had this installed for months. I have to go back to the deprecated Kids+ app, switch to grown-up mode and approve them there. When that app is disabled in March, this is going to be even more annoying if it's not fixed, because I'll have to use a browser to log into Amazon and approve requests. Besides that, it's cumbersome to use in other ways and generally poorly organized, but that's nothing new.
The screen time limits feature is an absolute joke, it doesn't work in any way. If I set it to an hour a day, it'll tell us that the hour has been used and the tablet is locked first thing in the morning. Setting certain hours for use doesn't matter, it'll either randomly lock the tablet and not allow any use or it'll ignore the set hours.
Not user friendly at all. Hard to figure out and runs the user in circles. Honestly does not offer much control either. I've set up "educational app" requirements and she can still watch videos. I've blocked videos and she can still watch them! The age filter isn't accurate at all and allows access to items way beyond my kids level, but there's so much shared it would take hours to look through all of it and disable it all
Useless. When trying to change browser settings so I can accept WiFi from hotel, nothing is changing on the tablets. Then one of my kid's accounts is stuck on block website page and will not go back to the toggle buttons for the browser. If I click back, it goes back to the list of content options but never back to the browser options. Tried force close, clear cache, and closed the app down, nothing fixed it.
It's helpful buuuut.... it needs to let me customize more. Like if I want them to be able to only listen to music for a certain amount of time. Or I only want them to be able to use certain learning apps first or for a select duration. Or add more time temporarily without having to remember to change the settings back. Give me more options please
I bought the Amazon tablet for my son. He loves it but now that we've had it for almost a year we have had nothing but issues. I reset the whole thing and it worked for a month or two. He's been trying to add more games to play but I can't even accept them. Tried to call customer support and was told they would call back in 20 minutes, never received a call. This is so discouraging and will most likely be going with something else.
WTH is this? Not only does this not do what it's supposed to do and limit my child's actions on their devices, I can't even open the open the app to see why it's not working. This is an actual Amazon app? For real? Wow. I have too many Amazon products that keep glitching out from the fire sticks dying every 1-2 years and now this...Scared for the Blink cameras I just bought. Imagine they don't actually capture someone trespassing. Maybe it really is time to switch Apple compatible products.
