I downloaded this app so I could be more social, but the events are so niche and targeting a specific audience that I would have no place being there. I understand that events are dependent on the people in my area but I'm still frustrated.

Years ago, I used Meetup frequently. Then, the group I went to disbanded, and I got away from Meetup. Recently, I reinstalled the app and started looking for a particular type of group. But the details for the groups were hidden behind a pay wall, and they want $170 annually or $10/week to see the details. Even in its heyday, Meetup wasn't worth that kind of money. The group organizers used to pay, not the attendees. It seems that Meetup is just a money grab for its owners now.

This app is really slow, loading a page takes about ten seconds and makes using the app pretty tedious

Since Meetup was sold to Italian company Bending Spoons, organizer fees have doubled & high user fees implemented. I was willing to pay as much as needed to the group organizers but now i have to pay high membership fees too just to perform basic functions? i can no longer easily find info about my groups. its glitchy & you get pop-ups. you get spammed with emails. as soon as you decide to participate in any group you get pop-ups to pay.

App is so bad it puts me off using meetup. For eg Explore only gives a selection of actual results of events that are running: it omit events that meet the search criteria you are looking for and that are running. What is frustrating is it used to work before the enshitification and I used to find new groups and attend more events as a result. It has 100% put me off setting up my own group or paying for meetup+ Congrats to whichever genius implemented this.

Can be glitchy when it comes to adding and removing comments or trying to view comments or modifications

this is a really nice way to meet new people who want to make new friends

only worthwhile if you work a 9 to 5 office job. plus u will get your data scraped and constant scammers trying to steal your data.

Have used this for years but shocked to see it is now charging members of groups for things that always used to be free. Can't see it continuing much longer like this. Also keep getting error messages

Unsafe app, they allow known, predators to host events. Reported someone with pending charges for possession of child sexual abuse materials (who had a history of sketchy behavior in the community) who is hosting a Halloween parade event. meetup "safety" team just said thanks and bunch of mumbo jumbo about how brave I was. and took no action. so just know that even if they're informed a host is a predator, they let them keep hosting events near children 🤷‍♂️

I just found this to be more of a exclusive popularity contest of people that go to every single event ( lucky them) whom pay the exact same fee, as the people that can only attend, maybe. 3 events a year. if that's due to finances, medical conditions, kids, gas $? Whatever reasons, they are none of our buisness. I find that to be the OPPOSITE of what "meetup" should be! Then people literally blocked you from " Their Group for Life." Its literally a life sentence! WOW! R adults here?

Impossible to ad my location. I know I live in the middle of nowhere but even with location activated it sets me up in a town 40 miles away. Doesn't work with postcode either

Full of scammy/fake-looking events & AI. App itself also seems to have some paywalled content- haven't yet been here with the free version for long, but it seems like there will be stuff it'll block from me.

This used to be a very good app but has become very buggy since it was redesigned. Every time I use the back button, it kicks me out to the login screen. Because of the bug issues, it's also become impossible to update my account and look at events in cities I'll be traveling to.

This app is for creating event pages and waitlists/participant lists for those events. Who in their right mind is going to pay 10 euros a week for that? Outrageous idea.

Goes back to entry screen every time you click back, which makes it hard to look through events.

Automatically added me to groups not interested in and one outside of my age range! Only found out it is an enforced weekly subscription after installing. Hence deleted account and removed app.

it's very inconsistent with timezones. it will show a start time of 6pm on the list of events and 7pm on the event details page. which one is it? constant errors. still doesn't add the link to calendar events just says online event which is stupid.

it's much too expensive. Some of my friends threatened to quit Meetup and got a cheaper rate.

the search function doesn't work, giving a lot of unrelated groups and events. You have to navigate via the tabs which can be a frustrating user experience

They attempt to charge you exuberant amount of money for a subscription then when you click on something the wheel just turns and turns. I never loads. This use to be great. What happened.

Won't allow smaller cities. Even using my phone GPS, it will force my location into a very large city almost 4 hours away. Useless, unfortunately, as it was ok back when I DID live in a big city

App full of spam, you can't even look at activities between hundreds of reposts from the same group. And the app does nothing, you can't hide activities from a group, "dislike" it to not see its activities anymore or similar.

Absolute PITA to use. I hate that this site is the one used by my kayaking group, it's clunky, difficult to maneuver in. And now several features are behind a paywall, despite the fact that the coordinator already paid a fee to use the site.

The app got worse and worse, impossible to find groups by searching them even if you have their full name and typical enshittification direction.

No app is worth $10 a week, and I don't mess around with free trials and automatic subscriptions after that. I just don't create the account to begin with so you can't screw me when I forget.

I love the concept and have been a member for twenty years, but rates are skyhigh for organizers and most functions for members are now behind a paywall.

The app and website is quite bad, but the meetups are still worth it 🫩 the user is directed to pay for the premium version on every second click, there is no way to default to your followed groups and events - it always shows the explore tab 🤮

App has a bug and it has charged me for a core organizer and my group isn't even on there yet (It's acting like I didnt finish setting up the group and there's no history showing that I paid available on the app under a certain button but under the restore purchases I see it.

the app is great. but i think it would be nice to have a functionality to report an event. for example there are events shown to be free but when you try to join they ask you to buy subscription in their website.

One of the least intuitive apps I've ever used. On the home page there should be a tab for events in groups you've joined. There's not. You have to go to your profile, then Groups, the past events, then drop down menu, then upcoming events. That's a ridiculous number of steps just to see upcoming events for your groups.

Very very slow app. Takes hell alot of time to load just the homepage. And subscription is over priced.

App is very buggy - search filter is terrible been asked for a distance for online events; in case of a update on a group event, all event chat messages are wiped out; push notification templates rendering raw HTML tags as literal text instead of interpreting them. and for that the charge for using the app is quite steep

Dont install this. They collect your data and there is no way to delete your profile on your phone or by clicking. You need to use a computer fill out a form and wait. Dont use this app or this website.

I've been using meetup since 2020 and now that it's been acquired by Bending Spoons the whole app has gone under. Everything is paywalled. Creating events is so buggy for organizers. The platform is dying and we can thank private equity.

I shouldn't have to download your app to delete my account and data from years ago. fix this. I do not agree to the changes in policy starting November 1st 2026.

Meetup Organizers (Local Group Owners) already pay $300-360 per year to have their group hosted by meetup. However, people joining the group are being forced to pay individually. There is a "Continue with Free Plan" option but is getting harder to find when joining, almost impossible to find.. DO NOT PAY WHEN YOU JOIN. IT'S ALREADY BEEN PAID.

Prices have gone up, quality and convenience has gone down. Private equity bought Meetup and it went to hell.

The app burns through battery if you're searching around on it. Probably just something stuck or not optimized.

it used to be a great app to help people connect. then they got greedy and decided to try and get people to pay for subscriptions. now anything you click on automatically pops up an annoying window for meetup + and you can't disable it. it makes using the app almost impossible now and where I would have considered paying a few bucks before now because of the super annoying way they handle it I mostly just avoid the app

I initially downloaded just to check it out before deciding anything but the insane amount of pressure to be a subscriber immediately turned me off from it. Social apps that require subscriptions should only be to pay to ensure the safety of its users but there seemed to be none of that as far as I could tell. It takes a lot to make Facebook look like the better option for starting a group. And if you want to delete your account? Good luck jumping through all their hoops. So sketchy.

I had the app a few years ago so I thought it would be good to re-download it. Only to find out that you have to pay for it now. so I did the 7day free trial, but the app is now so poorly designed I cant find groups in my location that I would be interested in. Tried to cancel it but it brings me back to my subscriptions on google play without actually showing the meetup subscription!!

This kind of billing policy is absolutely shameful and feels like nothing less than taking money from users without their consent. The app has been completely useless to me and has provided not even the slightest benefit. They make canceling my subscription very hard and I'm not going to pay these guys any more money for a group that's no longer active. I was being charged multiple times per month with no explanation as to why. My account didn't reflect all the payments and there was no way to see if a particular group was charging me extra money to manage it. This is unacceptable. You need to give your customers the tools to manage what they are paying better. I never agreed to pay extra to anyone and feel as though I have been robbed.

SCAMMERS, they have been spam sending me emails and there is no way to stop that, u can press unsub and it doesnt work, it is total scam, now they send me tens of emails every single day and now am forced to not use my email because of this scam. just know that your email will be compromised if you sign in this scan app. NEVER EVER DOWNLOAD IT, scammers. who knows what they would steal if i gave them card info. not trust worthy.

Doesn't stay logged in; always opens with the register/login page. Navigation feels messy and disorganised. Trying to find my home screen just returns me to the login screen! So I *always* use the web instead whenever I can. So much so that I've considered uninstalling. (The meetings and organised events are great in themselves but the app is a huge disappointment – as everyone else has been saying too.)

I absolutely love this app. Some people say it's slow, but for me it wasn't slow at all regardless if I was using data, WiFi, or even WiFi in the train. The app will remind you of every incoming event so you won't miss any. Only negative thing I could say is that there's not many events in my country but that's not the app's fault (I'm sorry for any potential mistakes, English is not my first language haha)

If you are free member, UX is horrible. Every click asks you to pay first for the membership. Even though you are just attending events.

the app has progressively moved towards more and more monitization and removing features that use to be free and selling them back to users with their paid subscription. meetup support rarely gets involved for safety concerns for members using their platform. I only use the platform because other friends use it, but I barely justify using it nowadays. if something better comes along then I will likely switch to a different platform

My first Meetup experience was terrible. I paid 99 NIS for an event listed on the platform. Soon after, the event disappeared and Meetup later confirmed they removed both the organizer and the group after review. Meetup refused any credit or compensation because the payment was processed externally. I then spent days dealing with my bank and card company. Very disappointing first experience and a major loss of trust in the platform.

Bending Spoons (a private equality firm) bought Meetup in 2024. Ever since the acquisition they have been making the app worse, with random crashes, and putting things behind a paywall. I no longer use Meetup for these reasons.

the most recent update absolutely screwed with the functionality. now when you log in, it opens something like a browser in the app. when you go into an event, pressing the back button takes you entirely back to the login menu instead of to the previous page, or the home page. infuriating! I cannot see, nevermind use, any of the usual tabs such as 'explore' and 'notifications'. I have no idea why you had a perfectly functional app and then "updated" it to be a pain to use.

Ever since Bending Spoons took over Meetup, they have destroyed what could be a great platform. ​Demanding $130 a year for "Meetup+" from casual attendees is completely unreasonable. Organizers are already paying hundreds annually just to keep groups alive, and now regular users are slapped with aggressive, non-stop popups just to check event times or RSVP. There is virtually ZERO value added to justify charging attendees a subscription—no meaningful features, just cosmetic badges and paywalls.

Need a cheaper membership option that stops the solicitations to become a member, which are too many and disruptive.

Now you have to pay for all the stuff free before so greedy your already getting money from the hosts now you want more deleted the app

Upon downloading the app, I was charged for a month subscription. Upon finding out, I unsubscribed, it ended after 9 days. However if I unsubscribed why was the full month not honoured? Ridiculous. I quickly found out that it is certainly not worth paying for. Word of warning to those downloading this app for the first time, be careful of any initial charges.

Meet-up instead asking subscription poor people - MUST immediately start investigate meet up organizers for legitimate reasons providing services announced because most of organizers scamming and collecting money from participants and providing wrong services.

Still the stupidest app ever. It's absolutely useless to try to search an event in a different city to plan to go somewhere. The app offers great potential for people to build a social network. It's so sad that it doesn't run properly.

One of worst app user experiences ever. Meetup originally fit for purpose: meet local people with similar interests for free. Gone dramatically downhill. Full of businesses now. Insanity: expects $20 per WEEK (not year or mth!) for same functionality & doubled+ organiser fees. Popups to pay on every click. Can't choose free once & be left alone. Extremely slow loading every event on flagship phones. Navigation not intuitive. Notifications hit & miss - work awhile then stop. Move to Heylo!

don't bother getting the app unless you're prepared to spend money. about $30 for one month or $178 if you "save money" with a 6 month plan. Can't make your own group unless you buy a plan so if you're unhappy with the options of groups given to you, tough luck!

Great, more enshittification. Meetup was bought by the same company who bought Eventbrite, and now charges a $10/week *WEEK* subscription to even browse events nearby. Signed up for the trial just to browse after being away a couple of years and the number of events/variety has declined substantially. Mostly see events marketed toward Seniors, Women, or Hiking. Jerks.

nothing special in this app. and they will charge u 43AED after a first week. they just tell u at the beginning we will remind you one day before renewing (1 week free trial) they wait you to forget and they will never remind you. my fault i didn't cancel it at day 1. I thought I will check it next day and i git busy. I woke up reading 38.99aed (+2.29% foreign txn fee) has been deducted. it's doesn't worth a what I paid for.

They got insanely greedy. No details of events can't access anything period. Requests to join events are often behind a scam paywall with fake accounts. Literally does the polar opposite of what the site is attending to do.

It has been excellent in the past and the activities I have been to was wonderful.
