Work on screen glitching, loading and something went wrong notification. Need to add a different voice for spelling words and add sentences.

I'm sure it would be great if it would actually load and let me log in. Instead, I'm stuck at the loading screen the entire time.

Very good games, my son loves them, and I'm happy he can spend his time learning math and grammar, it also allows you to customize the difficulty to their current skill level, and it automatically increases from there.

I started out last summer with my first grader unable to read. A yearlater he's reading proficiency! Hooked on Phonics Rocks!

My kids really enjoyed playing all three games, phonics, math, and spelling on our computer. When they went to the new format, it is no longer available to download on your computer unless you have an additional add on. Will be deleting my subscription soon as I don't want my kids on a tablet. We have a desktop computer, and can't download the app at all.

This app is very frustrating for kids. It kicks them out every couple lessons and glitches often. The parents portion would be great if it works but I cannot change the level of the lesson no matter what I've tried. In the setup it asked what level for reading, I selected 2nd grade. The app started them at the beginning pre-K/kindergarten no matter how many times I restarted and tried to choose a higher level.

This app has said error and not allowing me to get to the next step. How do I cancel. 😞

This has been an excellent tool for the developmental stages of our sons growth in learning. It's made simple, and our child finds enjoyment in the process. I highly recommend this program.

Hooked on Phonics is more than what I've expected! My granddaughter has mastered her letters in the practice book 1&2. She's excited that she can read the letters and sound them out. The practice books are amazing. She's learning how to write them so well. Hooked on Phonics is the best choice I could've made for her homeschooling curriculum! The app is wonderful as well. Hearing her read truly warms my heart and excites me. Thank you Hooked on Phonics for a wonderful curriculum.

the new advertisement campaign promotes drug deals , bullying and peer pressure. Not exactly the thing you want promoted or advertised by a company that's entire platform is to teach kids.

Just started using for 6 year old. So far it's good. It's easy to open and get started. He seems to be enjoying the app. He thinks he is playing games but it's really helping him in the long run.

My 3 year old jumps for joy when she gets a gold star for recognizing a letter sound. She picked her tablet up and 5 minutes in, im crying because my baby is actually learning! Id recommend this app. they are running a $1 for the first month special right now and I couldn't be happier with it! it will only be about $25/mo after the trial month. shes will get flashcards and a book and star stickers soon! 🤌🥰

This app now is unable to accurately track a student's progress. it will skip a student around, helping to confuse them by giving things out of order. the content is good, whoever built this structure is incompetent

This app is a waste of money. it constantly freezes when my child is trying to learn, then I have to exit the app and restart it just for it to freeze again. I highly do not recommend this company or the app.

Right after I added my card information, the app malfunctioned. I received a message indicating that I successfully registered. However, when I login, there's a long pause, then a vague error message telling me to send an email. Meanwhile, they already have my card information and I'm missing out on my 1 week trial. I should have known it was a scam. Now I have to go through the hassle of replacing my card! Hooked on phonics didn't work me!

the app RELIABLY will not load.

poor. It gave my 6 year old the word meth and wanted him to unscramble it into another word. Now im having problems unsubscribing.

Really good for your children

Can't access the app. I signed up for the $1 promo and haven't been able to log in at all. My credentials are correct. I made sure of that. I feel like I have been duped because they took my money but my login info isn't working. Be careful. I searched for anyone having the same problem online and some article said to wait 24 hours for access. Another said that you will have access after you pay. I still don't.

This app has been dumb down so much since it was sold , and the app redesigned. All the wonderful songs and games that were much better are all gone.

this is not a cheap subscription but it can cover up to 3 kids. but for me it isn't worth the money at all and I'll be cancelling it when it comes up for renewal. the math is Great the reading absolutely not. when they get so high up in the phonics. say around level 30, they become able to just guess over and over until they get the correct answer. I watch them push the options until it says "great job you did it". so at the end of the lesson the have learned absolutely nothing.

The app freezes at least four times during a 15-minute learning session. This requires me to constantly close and restart the application. I have attempted to use the application on various devices, including an Amazon Fire tablets and my cell phone. However, it consistently freezes, rendering the application unusable. Unfortunately, I have already paid for a yearly subscription, so I am unsure of the next course of action.

This is a poorly made app. The content is great for learning, but the app loads slow, freezes multiple times during use and now it does not save the last learning step, it jumps forward and I have to scroll all the way back to get to the step we were previously. I will be looking for something else that works better.

My 3 year old son is so confident that he is learning new things and strives for perfection! Love the app and program.

Absolutely fabulous. Ordered the books and app about a month ago for my nearly 4yo and she's already using her powers for evil to try to sound out/type fart on the library computer and search for books 😂

Aside from a freezing issue we had with one game (we were able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling) The game play has been really smooth. In two weeks my four year old went from knowing his letters and sounds to actually reading words. Im seeing improvement daily and its amazing to watch!

scam. signed up for the trial and hated it. canceled that day. the app said it might take 5 days to update my cancellation, but it was the 7-Day trial so I figured no problem. just wearing that they did charge my card anyway and was told I would not be granted a refund. horrible customer service.

the sounds are hard to hear clearly, and one game has a bad graphics failure, half the screen gets covered by a pumpkin skin.

we love Hooked on Phonics and have been subscribers of the app and books for quite a while. BUT what were the app developers thinking when they made the new update?!??! It's horrible to navigate! It's really not that much fun anymore if you have to scroll along that path for minutes to find what you're looking for.

App is always crashing.

I was Unable to cancel the subscription, The app wouldn’t let me cancel. It kept saying my username is invalid even though I’m entering the correct details. And then, the customer service came into the rescue and they helped me sort out the issue. Thank you for your prompt response.

it glitches like crazy, it keeps telling me my kids on lesson 21 when he is on lesson 7. and I have to scroll all the way from 21 to 7 bc they updated a "path" but dont make it easy getting to different lessons without scrolling backwards. its a hot mess. it hasnt asked for an update so its just glitcha and everytime I finally get to scrolling to the lesson he should be on, it wont load and then tells me something is wrong and to go to the website. im about to get rid of this just bc of the app.

I got this for my kids to use, but the app keeps crashing on their tablet. I can't even sign them in before it crashes

This app was wonderful right up until the last update -- now the progress bar/map is awful. I deleted all my daughters' progress so it would stop jumping ahead; but even choosing their starting points manually, I still have to scroll backwards through half a dozen units every single day and make sure I remember to write down where they finished. And no, un/reinstalling does not fix this.

The app freezes so much I'm getting tired of it. I'm about to cancel this app and find an alternative. I already brought this up before to their customer service and was advised to uninstall and reinstall but that didn't solve anything.

My kids can't even get through one lesson on this app using their Amazon Fire tablets without it freezing up. It isn't just a one off instance either. I have 6 kids using it on 6 different devices. It happens to all of them every single time. To make matters worse, Hooked has now increased their monthly pricing. So now I'm paying for two over-priced subscriptions for an app that doesn't even work well. I'm very close to canceling.

The customer service is quick and helpful. I love that It allows 3 student learners. All of my kids love it!

Totally worth it. we purchased all 3, phonics, math, and spelling, plus the books. This is the best thing I have found to keep my son focused and make our homeschool lessons fun and productive. My 5 year old autistic son wasn't even speaking a few months ago, now he is a math wiz, can spell any word and can read full books. He can navigate the program easily, and the lessons in the books match right up with the ones on the program. It is an absolute joy to have in our home classroom.

The app is helpful to a degree, but also easy to just guess until getting the right answer and not really learning. It does repeat the incorrect questions to try to rectify a likely guess and not really knowing. BUT.. the app frequently freezing up while using, which doesn't facilitate learning. I have to restart the app every 15-20 minutes. It also glitches frequently distorting the picture, also making it difficult to answer questions. For the $$ I pay for this app, this is unacceptable.

Works fine on a smart phone but will NOT work on a tablet or PC. I'd prefer to use a tablet for this then a phone....I have uninstalled it and reinstalled the app but nothing has changed.. Can this be fixed asap? I use this for my son's homeschooling work.

learning experience is great. good foundations. but... the app has a nasty tendency to load at lesson 25 or 30 instead of where my kids actually are, and it makes my kids hate learning to read. we have reset multiple times, made sure they're where they should be, and next day it happens again.

The app freezes constantly. it also keeps placing my child in the higher category, I've had to restart his progress multiple times due to this. im so disappointed.

I signed up on a laptop only to find out at the end its not even compatible with lap tops. I can't even manage the subscription or cancel because I can't access the account from the device they allowed set up on. now I have to dispute charges through my bank

The program is very easy for my grandsons to follow along. They are learning well.

My child is already noticing words all over the place and has read the books provided with the pack with little to no help. I can already see the difference and I am incredibly pleased with the results thus far.

Not good at all. I downloaded the app yesterday. I am unable to get in. It freezes and I've resetted my password several times. I called customer service and no one was available and no one was available through chat either. I am highly disappointed.

I have not been able to consistently log into the app for a while now. I've tried using someone else's device and still receive an "Something went wrong" error message. When I can log in, the new design is difficult to utilize as I can't seem to find where I left off. Please correct, as my daughter seems to benefit from this program.

I truly love it

the program is great but the app is glitchy. if I can actually get the app to open and run it is good and my children learned a lot but I have to open and close the app several times on their tablets and my phone. I had to undoenload it from my phone and now the key card won't open with the app for me to even log in. the app needs a serious update!

I really don't like how we can't download this on a laptop and only on a phone, not all toddlers have phones and i am more comfortable with my kids learning on the laptop

New update makes it no longer available on our Samsung tablet after we paid for a year.

Navigating the path on the new update to access earlier lessons is a horrendous design. You have to scroll forever to where you want to go. If you shortcut to the game/book library to replay earlier games, it's the same lesson over and over again. For example instead of scrolling back the path to step 1, I went to the game library and selected the first game, the spider web one. Except it makes you play the same sound "a" over and over again. No possibility of practicing other sounds.

In my previous review I praised this application. I deleted it because we absolutely do not find this new version user friendly. We heavily relied on the navigation bar to get to the lessons which needed additional review. What's worse is that once you find the lesson you want to review, you have to page back through the lessons because it does not retain the spot where you last left off. I am seriously disappointed and we are considering cancelling what once was an incredible product.

app is no longer working on both my kids tablets. uninstalled and re installed and still it bumps us off the app not even letting us log in. tablets are updated so no idea why it's not working.

Lost access to app on phone and tablet in the first week, would let me log in but would try to have me choose a new plan. No way to do anything unless I got another plan. I already have a subscription. even when I updated the app, I still couldn't do anything but they were still charging my card.

1. The new "map" makes it hard to "scroll" back to where we are in our review. 2. I wish there was a lot more vocab for the "review games". My daughter has memorized what picture goes to what letter b/c they use the same words over and over... instead of practicing listening for the starting sound. 3. I wish I could opt out of the mini non-learning games between learning games. Aimless-games between learning-games makes the learning games feel less fun. 4. The stories honestly... stink.

I love it however the new update sucks. my son skiped around when he was playing. Now his level is all messed and you have to scroll alll the way back. You can no longer go into the menu and select which level to play. Please bring back the ability to select the level.

I literally have this app on every device in my home. My daughter reads so much better thanks to hooker on phonics it's an absolute amazing app if your child is struggling to read fluently I highly recommend this.

I cannot download the app. It is not possible with the mobile phone I am using. It reads that it is not available for this phone.

we love this for our 3 year old but the app freezes a ton and has to be closed constantly. For that reason we are going to look for other programs.

the recent update is terrible. Can't get the lesson in the phonics section to load in a timely fashion. Finding a specific letter is difficult now. We use this as a supplement for homeschooling but may have to look into another app.

I have 3 children, currently ages 9,7, and 6. I put the two oldest on HOP when they were younger and they read excellently. I put the 6 year old on it a couple weeks ago to improve his confidence and reading ability. STILL EFFECTIVE TEACHING TOOLS IN THE APP. Everyday he comes home asking to do HOP and he's excited as well as improving better than hoped, completing a minimum of 2 lessons and books a night. I strongly suggest this for parents who want their children to be better readers. Thanks u

the app used to be much more user friendly and now I can't go back to choose easier things. it's very frustrating for 17 dollars a month.

The recent October 2025 update UI is horrible. It has messed up my child's progress. It is challenging to find his right level now.

I want to love this app but it keeps freezing. I have it on my kindle and on an android phone and both freeze in the middle of an activity. As much as my child needs this for homeschool I believe I may have to find another app to help with the phonics that doesn't freeze

So repetitive that my kid gets board. Its a decent program but do different things and use different objects. And move faster between choices too! Kids get bored easily. Mastery is key however not if boredom when each time.

Well so far, no real experience, just app issues. I can't sign in. It allows me to manually add my email, then I go to add the password and the email clears and I'm unable to add the password at all. Hopefully this is fixed soon. Until then I'll see if I can use the official site.

This was the first app I installed on my son’s tablet 3 years ago, and he still uses it often! He loves the games and the videos! Even I enjoy them! It’s been so fun watching him learn and understand the sounds and ways letters go together. Hooked on Phonics worked for him! 😁

I love this program. I homeschool my son. We did phonics and other lessons with me making everything up as we went along. Then I started him on an actual homeschool curriculum and he excelled in it, but I didn't love the sight words. He knew phonics and I felt like it was the best way to teach him to read. I did the free trial with hooked on phonics this summer and my son has read over 40 books to date on the learn to read program!

I love this, but I'm happy that I can not download it on my sons tablet. I can get hooked on math and spelling but not hooked on phonics

okay. I give you two stars for actually responding to your reviews and for the overall experience I had with the app and books. But I took some off for how difficult it was to cancel and how the price seemed to change randomly? but I mainly just cancelled because my child isn't quite ready yet.

Just here to let other parents know THIS ABSOLUTELY WORKS. I used it for my child during COVID & she couldn't read anything. She had an IEP, was failing literally EVERYTHING & the school wasn't helping. I pulled her out of school, put her on this program while I homeschooled her. She's now in 8th grade, no need for an IEP & grades ARE amazing. Highly recommend... If you're questioning it don't, it's the best money you'll ever spend. I'm NOT anyone affiliated with this company, just a happy Mom.

Constant glitches from the laptop, constant error message that requires to uninstall and re-install multiple times

app glitches a lot and gives error messages often and freezes up. You can only use this as an app and not on a laptop. I was fun for my children the few times it worked.

I do not like free trials that automatically go into a subscription before I even had a look. uninstalling hence before we even give it a go. change your pay wall model and you might gain more customers

This app is constantly having issues. It freezes and doesn't work correctly with the math and spelling. My kid has never really gotten to use those 2 areas. Now, the phonics is having issues. I really like the work books, but this app is not working most of the time and causing my kid to hate working in the app.

the app keeps freezing on my brand new fire tablet. we only use the tablet for HOP. I have tried restarting the app and the tablet and it still freezes. going on three days of trying to get it to work.

My daughter has been using this app for a while and it has definitely helped her! But I have to give 3 star because out of nowhere it just wasn't compatible with her device anymore. So now I have to shell out for a new device so she can do her lessons :(
